Chapter 21: Merlin’s Conspiracy (1)

Kailar certainly did not know the identity of this golden-haired apprentice, Attolis.

The reason being was that he’d never cared nor placed much importance to the characters and people of this world. He was too busy lodged in Red Leaf toiling to make the dukedom and its economy prosper.

Regarding the matters of important characters, Leyton had only taught him three identities which played a pivotal role in the future of Camelot. They were King Uther, Merlin, and his father, Andrea Ettorek.

In a way, Kailar was like a country bumpkin.

In fact, at this point, the identity of his company was clear as the deep azure.

Morgan was the daughter of King Uther’s wife, and perhaps she could’ve been used as a chess piece for marriage. But even then, everyone knew of her origins. She was not of King Uther’s blood and such would never have the chance of inheriting the throne.

That aside, King Uther had yet borne an offspring which left many disappointed by the revelation of it all. Despite his youthful appearance, he was well over fifty years of age. The circle of life turns. Age draws near and soon sickness and death follows. This cycle cannot be broken.

Sooner or later, King Uther will die. Without an offspring of his bloodline, who will inherit his throne?

But regardless of who it will be, Morgan would have no chance of inheriting Uther Pendragon’s throne.

So the lords and dukes waited. They waited patiently under King Uther’s banner. They waited for the day when their king’s flag will fall to meet its death.

Though much to their dismay, no one knew King Uther had an illegitimate daughter of royal blood.

King Uther knew how cunning and poisonous his court would be. He knew very well this daughter of his would be placed under much scrutiny. So after he left his seed, King Uther never turned his head to look at his daughter and allowed Merlin to carry out the plan for the future of Camelot.

The plan was to allow King Uther’s daughter to grow as a strong-willed woman without knowing of her true identity. It’s to be said that she’ll grow to become their queen in the near future. So long as she becomes a person worthy of leading the people, those loyal to King Uther will support her in inheriting the throne of her father, Uther Pendragon.

As a result, King Uther’s daughter grew to be a person with deep-seated anger hidden behind a facade. She was only a girl, a child, yet here she was deprived of her own childhood and forced to conceal her identity as a woman. From there, she became a knight apprentice in training.

With Andrea Ettorek ranked as the best of the best amongst the elite knights, Merlin chose to speak of King Uther’s illegitimate daughter and her true identity to him. Fortunately, Andrea Ettorek was loyal to the throne otherwise King Uther would hunt him down to the ends of the earth for daring to know such dangerous secret.

It was for this reason alone that King Uther was always antsy deep within his heart. It was not bad for his daughter to learn a thing or two from that little monster. Who knows, maybe something would happen between the two causing them to tie the knot.

Kailar would become the prince and later, their king.

Thinking of this, King Uther chuckled followed by Merlin’s melodious laughter and accompanied by Andrea Ettorek’s bellowing laugh. All three of them snickered in secret hoping to see how Kailar would deal with the future queen of Camelot.

Though the only problem was that none of the three powerhouses had revealed to Kailar their plans and secret.

None had revealed the name Attolis was nothing but a pseudonym and that she was a person belonging to the opposite sex; none had told Kailar that it was her first time experiencing the world; none had told him that he was the first person she had been assigned to serve as an apprentice in training.

The world had a discrimination against women serving in a male-dominated hierarchical world. To say that she was a woman deliberately concealing her identity… how absurd! None would dare conceive such idea.

This was Merlin’s conspiracy which King Uther and Andrea Ettorek were all the more willing to help.

And so came the fruition of a beautiful misunderstanding between the two.

When the little girl, Attolis calmly challenged Kailar in a rather poised manner, Kailar shook his head and smiled lightly. Nodding, he walked towards the shelves stacked with weapons.

Dual swords!
