Chapter 22: Merlin’s Conspiracy (2)

Although wielding a dual sword decreased their chances of defending, Kailar knew the use of the dual sword was meant to be used as an all-out offense. Dual swords were in itself a powerful and domineering weapon.

Kailar’s opponent took a quick glance at the dual sword in hand and then back at him. She knew he was anything but a knight and hence made the same mistake as Gawain had done earlier—taking the enemy lightly and underestimating their strength.

Kailar twisted his feet and suddenly, the dual sword clashed on Attolis’ sword overhead. The domineering strength was too powerful that it caused a slight depression to form around the soles of her foot.

To think a weapon contained such might capable of causing cracks to form around the smooth pavements existed…

A muffled groan escaped from both their lips. Attolis held the hilt of her sword to prevent the pressure continuously invading her.

Kailar suddenly remembered the one sword in his other hand laying deathly still. He swiftly raised it and pressed the dual sword on Attolis’ knightly sword.

What followed after was the dual sword pointing to her shoulder and throat.

“You’ve lost.” Kailar smiled lightly.

“This battle is completely out of line with the chivalry and spirit of the knights.” Attolis cried out loud, her cheek a rosy red.

“But you forget that I’m not a knight.” Kailar smiled softly. “I am a sage. I look for efficient methods to conquer my opponents regardless if lacking the knightly principles.”

Were he to listen to her suggestion of showing chivalrous combat, it would no doubt display his effective combat abilities. It’s best he uses his title as the wise sage to deflect chivalrous code.

“Again!” Attolis bit her lip and displayed a fiery temper rarely seen.

Merlin who secretly watched their duel under a pool of magic snickered time to time while thoroughly enjoying the predicament.

“As you wish.” Kailar replied calmly and backed away, moving the dual sword away from Attolis neck and shoulder in the process.

Kailar and Attolis stood a few feet away from each other. They circled around the ring-shaped pavement feeling the pressure the two exuded.

After a moment of eerie silence, their foot twisted and suddenly dashed forward.

Kailar blocked Attolis oncoming sword slaughter. He’d not need to place too much work on defense as the dual sword’s might solely relied on an all-out offense. Once regaining the upper hand, Kailar lunged his dual sword one after another without allowing Attolis a chance to retort. Attolis could only grit her teeth as she blocked all the attacks. She felt rather bitter. She’s not have the chance to make a counterattack. There was little opening to do so. The dual sword style was truly a fast-paced style of technique.

“Ha!” Attolis’ fierce scream was muffled, its voice echoed and lingered in the air.

She’d finally found an opening. With the remaining strength and force she had, Attolis switched from defense and went all out. Her sword ran towards Kailar’s neck seemingly ready to tear the flesh apart. If Kailar didn’t dodge this, forget about defeat, he’d be a cripple for life or worse, death.

“Watch out!” Gawain exclaimed nervously. He’d been watching the fight since the beginning. With the passing of time, he grew extremely nervous and even more so at this moment. Gawain saw it. Attolis managed to find an opening to counterattack yet Kailar had already seen through her plans and was ready to make a move. If she didn’t make any slight preparation, defeat she would face.

“Guh!” It was too late for Attolis to back out even if she’d notice Kailar’s counterattack too late. Without holding herself back, she placed all her hopes and effort in this one move. If successful, victory would be right around the corner!

“Beautiful.” Kailar’s lips curved softly, his mannerism calm and confident. Soon after, an incandescent white light appeared and blocked Attolis’ attack.

“W-w-what is this?!” Gawain and Attolis cried out, surprised the sword attack containing all of Attolis’ effort hadn’t injured him one bit.

“Magic.” Kailar narrowed his eyes and smiled. “This is magic.”

The milky white shield suddenly deformed and turned into a white glow wrapping itself around Kailar.

“When has he been able to use such type of magic to this extent?” Merlin raised her brows rather surprisingly. The white glow moved around him like a living creature fawning over his existence. She felt her hairs rising. This little guy was only ten years of age!

“This is really cheating!” Gawain did not know whether to cry whereas Attolis’ face turned a deep red.

“This is my weapon.” Kailar sighed and concluded the end of the duel.
