Chapter 009: Ten Years Old

Three months later.

The carriage brimmed with ravine grapes from the outside city. Surely but slowly, the carriage pulled by a horse entered the city. From a certain distance, many saw bright purple grapes like a crystal dew.

The knights who had received the news quickly gathered around and bought a crate of grapes worth one silver coin each, eagerly awaiting to ravage the contents inside.

They had told their families that not only could they eat the grapes but it could also be brewed. If they didn’t know how to brew wine, so be it. They could still eat it fresh and raw without problems.

Moreover, the knights would have such delicacies stored in their home for welcoming guests. It’d boost their status surely.

When all the knights left, there were only silver coins filling the carriage whole. It was estimated to be about a hundred or so.

Sibo smiled crookedly. He knew that all this fortune would not have been possible without the help of his young master.

The public furrowed their brows wondering what had just happened.

But thank the gods for the little girl’s quick eyes. She quickly asked one of her fellow relatives near. “Aunt, what is this used for?”

The crowd’s ears perked up and quickly gathered around.

The woman laughed. “I’ll tell you what it’s used for. Sir Alex had told me about it.” Her face contorted eagerly. “We can make wine! Not only can you eat it but you can also make wine! And it’s not at all expensive.”

“Ah…” Then it suddenly dawned on them. There was very little wine in Britton. There was no brandy, no whiskey, no gin, no vermouth either. Wine was a favorite drink among the Celts and Vikings. Just that the wine came from Rome. It was costly and moreover, it was the wine of their enemy.

So this sort of plant could make wine… and so this was what those Romans used…

Then the crowd’s eyes turned wolfish. What they had just heard roused their interest and were all the more eager to buy but sadly, Sibo had already rushed out making them go crazy.

“Hey, look! Look at the amount of money he got… it should be about two to three hundred silver coins!”

“That can’t be right. If you count the manor, surely he earned more than that!”

“How much money did he spend on the manor? It must be two to three times of what he had earned.”

“Two or three times? And only in a few days? That’s more than what we make… hey, how many did you say he makes?”

“……”

The people shut their mouths, no longer speaking but their eyes glittered as they saw money falling from a tree.

……

Sitting under the ravine grapes to shield from the harsh rays of sun, Kailar who watched Sibo head out in the early morning was now making its way back. “So soon. It’s not sold out?”

He’s not afraid to sell all the crates of ravine grapes. After all, Britton’s land is suitable for the growing of vineyards and the Celts favored the taste of wine.

So he wondered why Sibo returned so soon. Had he not sold them all?

But he’s not surprised to see his servant so soon. It is man’s innate nature to be wary of new things, always afraid till it has been done and tested time and time again.

Kailar shook his head and laughed at Sibo’s detailed explanation. “I didn’t expect it to be like this but no matter.” Thereafter, he picked up a parchment scroll. “Give this winemaking method to the knights.”

“Master, this could be a big profit!” Sibo ignored his demeanor and cried out as he knelt on the ground.

“It doesn’t matter. This is for the best that they learn how to do so. In this way, they’ll be more than eager to purchase some more but it also isn’t good to let them have a copy of it.” Kailar rolled the parchment scroll and handed it to Sibo. “Go on. Let them see the contents but be sure to get it back. What they memorize is up to them.”

“Yes, Master.” Sibo replied.

“This game lacks finesse and intelligence.” Kailar sighed as the chess piece fell on the stone chessboard beside him.

The chessboard resting under the ravine was made by Merlin with the help of magic. Otherwise, it’d take much time and effort to craft and polish if done manually.

Except for this one particular chess piece, the rest of the pieces did not move. This was because he lacked enough information to move the rest.

“King Uther…” Kailar rubbed the sapphire ring on his thumb. He was told that this sapphire ring was magical; told that it’d provide a burst of defensive magic in times of danger. It was his teacher, Merlin who gave it to him. Kailar smiled subconsciously. Merlin had poured her heart out, toiling hard in the creation of the sapphire ring.

Once gifting the ring to Kailar, Merlin stated that she had to go — something related to royal matters for sure. But before she left, Merlin left him a scroll of spells to practice.

The very next day, she disappeared and Kailar was left to practice on his own.

But Kailar didn’t mind her absence. He told himself he didn’t care.

He regularly went to Nottingham Forest to practice magic. He needed to do so. It wasn’t an option to do it in the public. People like him who were different usually never lived long enough to have their own family. They’d be burned alive before they could live a meaningful life.

But recently, Kailar’s luck was rather good these days. He found many things in Nottingham Forest, stumbling across ginsengs, fo-ti, and various herbs everywhere. He was attentive, slowly combing through all the herbs found and bringing them to his treehouse.

Kailar had been a busybody. When not in the forest practicing magical spells or going on an herb-seeking escapade, he was at the manor guiding Sibo.

He hadn’t been in the castle much. It caused Andrea Ettorek’s worry to rise but he didn’t have much time to wallow in worries. The Gauls has been spotted cruising the seas. They weren’t sure if they were looking to test the Celtics or was traveling to Rome.

Therefore, Andrea Ettorek busied himself up down. He was unable to manage the affairs of the castle and his family due to obligations. This allowed Kailar to roam freely and unrestricted.

The days passed ever so slowly then one day, Kailar turned ten years of age.
