The Wind Kingdom

A lot happened in the wind kingdom afterwards and chaos descended on the empire. The emperor had an empress, four consorts and nearly fifty concubines. The emperor had nine sons and three daughters of which three of them were dead already. The empress had two sons the crown prince who died and fourth prince and a princess. The second, third and ninth princes are from the second wives. Others were from the concubines.

The ninth prince was the youngest and he was the most hated one in the harem because his mother was not of a higher status and didn't have much of a powerful family. His chance of survival in the palace was close to zero. He was either neglected or used to release frustration as a punching bag by the other princes. He looked exactly like his father with jet black hair and emerald green eyes with a golden tint. Since he was hated, his favourite place to hide was the imperial library where no one bothered. Soon many in the palace even forgot his existence. Others neglected him as a fool.

The third prince's mother's paternal family had some influence in the imperial city. Her father was a second rank court official, so she had the greatest power in the harem next to the empress. The third prince Lu Chenglei, right to his name was great in everything from arts or sword skills or people management he was like a genius. His looks were different. The imperial families traits were their dark hair and jade green eyes. But the third prince had silver hair and emerald eyes with golden specks in them making him look like an immortal. The emperor wanted to make him the crown prince. But this made the empress jealous and due to her schemes the third prince and his mother were sent to the western province of the wind kingdom. Although the emperor's edict was that they are sent for the prince's training, everyone believed his chance for throne is nil. But he didn't reach the western province and everyone believed he was killed by assassins sent by the empress. No one knew his whereabouts and his body wasn't recovered and it became an unsolved mystery.

Soon after the disappearance of the third prince, the emperor got sick and was bedridden. With him not announcing the crown prince, the power struggle for the next emperor began. The entire imperial city fell into chaos. With families trying to get the one they support as the next emperor with their schemes, the imperial Court stopped functioning properly. No official cared about the people and those who cared can't do anything in fear of saving their own head. At this time, even nature betrayed them causing less rainfall and the kingdom was in the verge of drought. Some rich families helped the people around them which barely kept the people alive.

But in the palace everyone raised arms against everyone and soon almost everyone died either by mysterious illness or by assassins. No one bothered to investigate and tried to use the chaos for their own benefit . Many previously great families were reduced in power and wealth to nothingness in the struggle for succession. After years of such struggle, only the ninth prince with no support was left.

That's when the greatest military family Zhong gave its support and made the ninth prince the emperor. Many were against the ninth prince who was said to be timid and a fool. But no one could go against the mighty Zhong family and the secret support of the Huang family. So after two years of struggle, the ninth prince Lu Junjie became the Wind Emperor.

Huang Ao Tian who was a loyal advisor to the previous emperor and governed the country in his absence was made the Prime Minister of the wind kingdom. Zhong Yingjie who defended the borders, which was frequently attacked by the enemies knowing the unstable court was made the Minister of Defence.

Even Though the new emperor wasn't keen on governing the kingdom, the officials of court selection exams were conducted for the first time in four years and many young devoted people were selected which brought back order in the court. The chaos subsided in the imperial city and people started feeling almost safe.

Only after a couple of years the new emperor started showing interest in the government and started attending the court. It was only then the court officials let a sigh of relief even though the emperor was still dumb. Still he was the only one who was with the royal bloodline and they didn't have much choice in this matter but to wait for him to become great.

Overall the wind kingdom was almost crumbling, held on by a thin thread. Still there were some people hiding in plain sight waiting for their chance to become the next monarch.

The Wind Kingdom was divided to four prefectures, north, south, east and west. To the west was the great sea and the north was a long range of mountains which served as a border for the Water Kingdom, the east was the Bùkuí  river which served as the border of the earth nation. To the south were some desert plains which had some tribes which was the Sky kingdoms territory. The Fire Kingdom was to the east of the earth kingdom separated by a great mountain and valley.

The wind kingdom is known for its Jade and precious stones, the water kingdom for its silk, the earth kingdom for its tea and pulses, the sky kingdom for its flowers and tea. The fire kingdom is known for its medicinal plants.
