Ten days passed since Chenglei went to the East and Xing was reading the letter he sent to her. He had mentioned about the drug that is colourless and odourless and is not identifiable once it is mixed in a liquid.

The drug had opioid qualities and the users had some kind of out - of - body experience and it was extremely addictive that even one use makes the user a slave for the drug.

Chenglei mentioned that a farmer salted his entire two acres of fertile field because he was "told to do so if he wanted more of that drug" by the dealers. There were increased rate of murders and robberies since those addicts were doing it to be able to afford the drug.

All in all that drug seemed to be extremely dangerous and it seemed it was used as a form of warfare in Xing's opinion.

Is the Fire Kingdom and Prince of Kang really responsible for this? Are they Proclaiming war on us?

Xing took a walk in the mountain to prepare for some emergency medicines to store. She'd made it a habit to keep medicines in her store ever since one of her maid died by poisoning back in the inner palace.

She also went to her home back in the village through the mountains and got the single feather of the white peacock she had. That was part of the Heavenly Emperor and that itself is the most valuable and unattainable medicine there is, as heard from many low level gods in the past.

When she took out the box she kept the feather was in, she was surprised to see that it had gotten reduced to a fine white powder. She was glad that it saved the efforts on her behalf to figure out how to use that feather as a medicine.

Xing took a look at the drawer in her room where she'd stored the notes Chenglei left for her previously when she came here with her father. The writings had faded a bit but still she kept it as safe as she could. These are the proof of how much he loved her before and she didn't want that to disappear. She'd never want them to disappear from her mind or from her life.

She also wanted to take a look at the sewing pouch of her mother but she still couldn't figure out why that drawer was stuck. Not willing to ruin the drawer, she left it as it was.

Before the Oldman Zhong passed away, he had given her a map to the place of burial of Chenglei's mother. Apparently the Zhong army were the ones who cleaned up after the assassination attempt on the third prince that day Xing and Chenglei met. But even though they searched everywhere, they couldn't find the third Prince.

"Oh, Brat! So you were the one hiding him!", the Oldman smacked her in the back laughing that day and gave her the map. Chenglei was with Shihong when he gave her that map and Xing's plan of giving that to him after Shihong was defeated got spoiled.

Xing tried to see if she could get head or tails from that map but as usual, she could not and she took that map with her to give it to Chenglei. It's been a long while and she figured he won't be hating his mother that much. Also she is her mother-in-law and she should be paying her respect as a daughter-in-law after they get married as per customs. So, it is necessary to keep that with her.

Xing returned to her Manor in the evening and she was surprised to receive a letter from her father asking her to meet him in his office the next day.

Xing wondered what that was about. She'd been meeting her father every other day in his Manor and why is he asking for a meeting in his office?

Xing went to the Prime Minister's office anyway the next day and she was surprised that no one even asked for her identification anymore. She wondered whose meddling was that.

When she entered her father's office, she was surprised to see his granddaughter there. Little Ruoxin was sitting quietly with her grandfather and in that pink hanfu she was wearing, she really looked like a blossomed lotus. This was the first time Xing was meeting her brother's daughter even though she visited their Manor often because Takano never let Xing meet her daughter till now.

Father asked me here because he wanted me to meet Ruoxin? Xing was pleased. But is he allowed to bring little children inside palace gates?

The little girl looked pretty cute and it seemed like she took after her mother and she got attached to Xing pretty soon like every other little child.

"Rijun's wife is expecting again", AoTian said and Xing just nodded.

So she thought I'd go easy on her just because she went on getting pregnant? You were wrong, you snake!

AoTian who very well could understand his daughter's mind wanted to speak up for his daughter-in-law but Xing spoke first, "Xu Mama crossed the bridge, Father!", her eyes were misted with tears and her face was filled with malice towards the one who wrongfully ended her life.

AoTian held his chest and squeezed it as he felt a sharp pain in his heart.

No way! No way!

He wanted to cry and ask her for details but since there was a child in the room he controlled his emotions. And now he knew his daughter won't back down from her revenge and he had no intention of asking her to go easy on the ones who took an innocent life either.

That woman was his mother!

Meanwhile, in the Imperial Study, Ah Xuan was sitting beside his father marking in everything that had words written on them. Mo Chen was lying by the Emperor's feet and was in deep slumber. The Emperor opened one of the memorials to read and realising them all marked around with dark ink, making those words unreadable, he sighed.

That Mingxia brought trouble as always! Good thing I'm the Emperor and no one can question me! Who else can get away in the palace saying 'I let my son play with the official documents' ? He thought.

And when he checked it, Ah Xuan had only marked the only letter he knew in their language and he had done it pretty well too not missing anywhere.

My son is smart! He smiled unconsciously looking at him still plopping marks in another unread memorial.

Well, my son is extremely lucky to have his first alphabets taught by Mingxia...! She really teaches well! My brother only feeds him... Look how fat he is... How will he able to hold a sword and fight or even walk if this continues... Should I...

"Your Majesty!", the soft voice filled with reverence snapped him out if his thoughts.

The bright and smiling face of Chu Weiye came to his view. Her belly started to be visibly protruding and she was wearing her usual Palace attires and not mourning clothes for her father and sister. It's a rule in their kingdom that the Empress can only wear mourning clothes when the Emperor dies. He never thought she'd follow that tradition when most Empresses don't.

She's been acting really gracious these days especially after that day she got slapped by Mingxia. She never raises her voice at him, takes good care of Ah Xuan and the other women in the Harem mentioned her changes too.

Should I start trusting her?

He looked at her eyes and he still felt something was missing. Then again no one he knows has clear eyes like Mingxia and Ah Xuan.

"Shouldn't you rest?", he asked her and unknowingly his tone softened at her. Mo Chen woke up by her voice and in his face that had a small scar because of her attack let out a low grumble and suddenly as if he smelt something walked towards the door.

" Mo Chen, is she here?", the Emperor asked Mo Chen. Mo Chen turned and looked at the Emperor for a second affirming the Emperor's suspicion and then left the study.

Of course Mo Chen would only get this excited for Mingxia. And he never stays in the same room as Chu Weiye.

" Is Auntie Xing here?", Ah Xuan who was concentrating till now got excited too with his phoenix eyes that would attract anyone glimmering with joy.

Only Auntie Xing gives him hugs as gifts. And she smells nice. And her cheeks are soft to kiss.

He likes his Uncle Li too. He always gives him tasty food and he always patted his head and tells him he is a good boy.

The little darkness that glinted in Chu Weiye's eyes was missed by everyone in the room.

Everyone likes her! What did she do for everyone to like her this much? But she cannot be defeated by openly opposing her.

Weiye had a plan to end her reign in this city...

"Your Majesty, is Her Highness here? May I know where she is?", she asked politely very well knowing that she is in the Prime Minister's office. No one enters and leaves this place without her knowledge. She is the Empress!

"Why?", the Emperor asked and Chu Weiye could sense the skepticism in his tone.

"It's just....", tears rolled down her cheeks making the Emperor feel a bit mushy in his heart. If she's really changed, he wanted to give her a chance.

This is the only woman he has slept with in the past three years and the mother of his children after all. And he is someone with the purest heart ever and is compassionate too. And no man would be strong against a woman's tears.

"I'm just asking... I don't know where she is either. She didn't come to meet me. She probably is with the Prime Minister", the Emperor spoke in a coaxing way.

"No... Your Majesty... I dare not blame you. I just... I remembered how disrespectful I was with her before and I just want to apologise to her...", Weiye said wiping her tears and sniffing her nose.

---

Xing who was playing with Little Ruoxin realised how she knew nothing about little girls. That little girl played differently trying to apply makeup with the writing brushes on her father's table and wanted to make flowers with paper and Xing had no idea how to fold papers into flowers.

Her father had a smile looking at her daughter who was perplexed with his girlie granddaughter.

Poor Ruoxin! My shrewd of a daughter only knows about books and swords! And you only know flowers and rainbows... What a contradiction between these two girls!

Xing not wanting to be shamed by a three year old girl for not knowing how to fold paper to make flowers offered to do what she knows... To make tea.

As she served her father tea and was lingering in the stove fearing the condescending look of the little girl, she heard a screech of the little girl and she saw Mo Chen entering. Little Ruoxin darted towards her grandfather and climbed over him and sat hugging AoTian like a little monkey and he coaxed the little girl.

Xing who was finally saved, petted Mo Chen and he laid by her feet and went back to sleep. Then the excited shout of the chubby Little boy rang,

"Aunty Xing! Why didn't you come see me?", Ah Xuan hugged Xing around her legs and Xing noticed the Emperor and Chu Weiye following him behind.

In the end the Emperor decided to give Chu Weiye a chance for redemption and brought her to Xing since Weiye asked for his company.

" Did you miss me? ", Xing kissed that bun like cheek and he went red. Only after the Emperor cleared his throat did he greet AoTian and accepted the curtsey of Little Ruoxin.

"Weiye wanted to tell you something", the Emperor said and was immediately met with Xing's glare. But still he persevered. He knew Mingxia is not someone for forgiveness but he really wanted to give Weiye a chance.

"Your Highness!", Chu Weiye tried to kneel in front of Xing making Xing peeved.

Is she really going to make a scene in front of the little children?

Xing always hated those who involve little kids in the spat between the adults and those women who make scenes in front of their sons to make themselves look pitiful to turn their son towards them. She knew that is what Chu Weiye is trying to do... Making Ah Xuan think that his Auntie Xing is bullying his mother.

"Stop", Xing gritted her teeth and held Ah Xuan by the cheek, "Ah Xuan, why don't you show the little lady Ruoxin around? This is her first time inside the palace ", she gave a gentle smile and Ah Xuan who hated walking could not refuse and accepted begrudgingly.

Why does Auntie Xing ask me to show her around? Doesn't that stinky girl have legs? Can't she walk around by herself?

He cursed the little girl in his heart but accepted his aunt's request and with a bunch of guards and maids following, both the little kids left the Prime Minister's office.

"Continue...", Xing waved her hand and Mo Chen stood beside her rubbing his head on her legs.

Xing noticed the complex emotions on Chu Weiye and her lips curled to a smirk. She didn't expect Xing would ask her to kneel in front of her especially when she is showing.

She had heard that the one in front of her won't bother pregnant women or crying women. Is she wrong? Takano purposefully got pregnant for that reason too!

Having no other way, Weiye knelt and Xing could feel the Emperor's heart beat rising and his fists clenching. Xing always wanted to know how far he'd let her go with his wife and she was surprised that he relaxed almost immediately.

"Your Highness!", Weiye started shedding tears.

Xing just stared back at her, sipping her tea making the Emperor nervous.

"What? I'm letting her compose!", Xing looked innocently at the Emperor making him roll his eyes.

Yes! That is exactly what you are doing!

After Weiye couldn't manufacture anymore of her crocodile tears, she looked pitifully at Xing, "Please allow me to apologise to you, your highness!", she looked so frail and she rubbed her belly as if she was highly uncomfortable but Xing didn't ask her to get up since she was not the one who asked her to kneel.

"For what?", Xing asked emotionless.

"For....", Weiye didn't expect that question. Is that what people ask to the ones who apologise to them?

Xing snorted, "You'll know if you are really sorry", she mumbled inaudiblely.

Of course Xing will not expect Weiye to act this way to her just after her father died and news of her ownership of the Eastern lands are spreading. She must have a hidden agenda.

"I want to invite you to a tea party I'm arranging as an apology", she bowed.

"No need for apology", Xing smirked.

So this is the agenda! What trap do you have in that party?

"I won't get up till you agree, Your Highness! ", Weiye persisted.

"Father! I have business to attend to. I'll leave now", Xing stood up and not even minding the Emperor who tried to stop her, left the palace with the kneeling Weiye's face blackened.
