On a very cold night, a night before the Jin army set forth to the north in order to extinguish the enemies that kept pillaging the border, there was a festival at the capital.

Fireworks and red lanterns were everywhere. The market stalls were all open and people from all over the Jin Empire went in and out. Everyone brought their loved ones, whether they were family, friend, or lover and spent their time full of joy at the festival. Everyone seemed busy chatting with their partner except for one particular boy.

Hu Ye was wearing dark green robes and leaning on a pillar near the sturdy red entrance to the festival area. He was carrying a box that was wrapped nicely in blue cloth.

Looking at people going back and forth made him feel really dizzy. He had been waiting outside for so long but the one he was waiting for had not shown up. He knew that he was at fault for going on his own two hours earlier than the promised time, thus the extra wait, but still, he wondered what made the ice princess become late.

-----

"Ugh… this looks bad." Qing Guang stood in front of the small mirror in her room. She tried to decorate her hair but it ended up looking horrible. She sighed and decided to just wear her usual modest hairdo. She tied her long, beautiful hair at the back. When she rifled through the jewelry box in search for her hairpin, she saw a beautiful piece of jewelry. "Ah!" She remembered that this jewelry was given to her by Hu Ye long ago, the one Hu Zi made. The jewelry was meant to be tied at her waist, so she got up and attached it firmly.

She was fitted in a white hanfu with green leaf patterns on the hem. The jewelry was pink and it made her look extremely lovely. She bought the hanfu with her own money… or rather the money she got after her brother won the bet with that greedy merchant son. The clothing she bought was the latest style and represented spring. The ice princess would look even better if her expression did not make people feel that it was still winter.

Once she felt satisfied with her appearance, she came out of her room and walked to the backroom where there was a small back door. But just after she opened the old looking courtyard door, a pair of mother and daughter greeted her.

Qing Li looked like she just cried a river, her eyes red and wet. Her hanfu was slightly tainted with the color of dark red, the color of blood. Her appearance coupled up with her unpleasant-looking eyes made Qing Guang shocked. She had a bad feeling about this.

Suddenly, the servants surrounded her and blocked her way. "Seize her!" The madam of the house commanded. Qing Guang's eyes widened. Her arms were soon held down by two servants, one on each side, and she was forced to kneel. Surprised by this development, she looked up in dismay.

The servants looked at her like she was a nobody, her status even lower than their own in their eyes. Some of the maids chuckled when they saw her being bound, their eyes showing clear ridicule. Qing Guang's eyes became extremely cold.

The pattern of this scene suddenly reminded her of the old times, but even when she was small, they never treated her like this, letting her beautiful new hanfu get dirty. She wondered whether she had grown softer these days or if the mother and daughter pair had become even more vicious.

*PAH!

A hard slap was landed on her beautiful jade-like cheek. It would definitely leave a red mark. "You bitch! Just what have you done to my daughter's Xixi!" The madam of the house roared.

One would think that there would at least be an argument before the punishments. But no, not in this house. No one bothered to tell her what had happened.

Qing Guang coldly looked up. She was not as intelligent and sharp as Qing Bo, but she knew many scheme patterns. Glancing at Qing Li for a second before looking back at the Madam, she recalled that Xixi was the name of the cat Qing Li picked up just two months ago. That was a bit strange as Qing Li never liked animals since they smelled bad to her.

Two months ago. It meant that she picked that furball up after the principal announced the winner of the dancing contest.

'Petty bitches must have planned this since then. Adopting a cat in order to frame me, huh?'
