But the Hu family guards were no ordinary guards.

If the fire was fast, they were faster! After taking caring of the archers, they started to clash with the enemy's swordsmen and put down most of the fire. The family guards found the sisters and sent them to a safe place.

However, an unexpected thing happened. The fire started again, this time a mystical blue flame appeared.

"Element masters!" someone exclaimed.

"Fire users!" Hu Zi gasped, her face distorted in horror.

Hu Bai and Hu Cheng Se looked at each other, tables turned.

The fire users started the fire and burned everything in front of them, closing all escape paths. From the northwestern gates, enemies flooded in and surrounded the guards. The enemies' numbers were countless. The guards gripped their swords tight, sweat dripping down on their faces.

Shoo!

Sharp air-piercing sounds were heard. Guang took her black bow and took down dozens of enemies down in a few shots. She kept shooting while Hu Ye claimed countless heads with his sword in one hand, his other hand holding Xiang Yi.

"Young Master, Lady Guang!" the guards shouted as they engaged the enemy.

Hu Quan Li soon arrived with Lady Hua by his side, aiding him. The cliff on every side of the palace and the burning fire left them no other choice but to take the northwestern path. The enemy can get in from there, which meant they could escape using their enemies' route.

The sisters ran with the guards that were still alive. Hu Zi could no longer feel her surroundings because the flames made the air hot and sparse. She could only rely on her sisters' guidance to a safer place.

The whole family reunited, Hu Zi tried to control the air and create mist out of melting ice to smear and protected them from the fire.

Hu Zi thought of something once they almost reached the gate. She painstakingly made wind blades from the area outside of the fire and swung them. She killed many enemies on the other side of the gates this way. She also made tornadoes and blew the enemies away.

The dust and snow from the tornado blinded the enemies, and the guards easily killed them.

"Nice, that's my daughter!" Great General Hu Quan Li praised. Lady Hua was carrying her grandson, Hu Xiang Yi; feeling proud of her daughter's cleverness, she smiled and complimented her.

When suddenly, a sword eyed her from behind.

It pierced her back and took her life.

Lady Hua's eyes widened, she tried to protect her grandson even in her last breath. She pushed him aside, and the sword only grazed his soft white skin.

Lady Hua's blood was spilled, and she fell down on the cold snowy ground.

"Tian Mi!"

The Formidable Great General Hu couldn't believe his eyes. When he was about to rush to his wife's body, firewalls appeared, preventing him, Hu Ye, Guang, and the rest of the guards to get near.

The fire users came and surrounded them all with fire. Hu Zi and her sisters' clothes were singed by the blazing fire flowers, but they did not care.

It was like the snow stopped falling; the blue fire stopped burning, and time stopped moving. There's a loud thumping in Hu Zi's chest. Her heart hurt; she couldn't see; she couldn't feel; but in that darkness, she knew she had just lost a part of her soul.

"Mother!" she screamed, and the whole battlefield suddenly became quiet. So quiet, that she could only hear the sound of Little Xiang Yi's low cry under his grandmother's dead body.

Sha!

Fei Ying darted straight at the man that had bloodied his sword by Lady Hua's fresh blood. Fei Ying scraped his face, making him lose balance and drop the sword.

"You murderer! How dare you!" Hu Cheng Se took this chance to grab a sword from the ground and pierce through the man's throat. He died instantly. But, after she withdrew her sword, someone grabbed her hair and pulled it so hard that some strands fell off.

"Agh!"

"Hu Cheng Se!" Qing Guang exclaimed, but the soldiers around her kept her busy. "Let go of her!"

"Let go of my sister, you demon!" Hu Bai grabbed a sword and swung it at the silent man that had pulled Hu Cheng Se's hair. It cut him deep, but he didn't move. "Let her go!"

Hu Bai did not know martial arts, but she was desperate. The man slightly moved back each time Hu Bai swung the heavy sword at him; although there were deep wounds on his body, they did not seem to hurt him at all. Once he reached the blazing blue firewalls, he grabbed Hu Bai's weak, thin wrist and held her in place. Hu Bai's sword fell in the snow.

"No!" He let go of Cheng Se and held Hu Bai's wrists with both hands. Hu Bai struggled to break free, to no avail. She firmly and fiercely said to his face, "You demon, take your hands off of me!"

Hu Cheng Se was thrown down by the tall silent man. "First Sister!" She looked around for a weapon and saw that the swords were on the other side, and she couldn't possibly run past that man and take them so easily.

Hu Cheng Se reached into her lapel. She was dizzy;blood came out of her lip as she grit her teeth. Hu Cheng Se heard Hu Bai scream as the man gripped her wrist tighter.

Hu Cheng Se hastened her movements and relentlessly searched around. Finally, she found the fish hairpin. "This is..."

"Stop!" Hu Bai screamed.

Hu Cheng Se broke into a cold sweat. She looked at the hairpin and grit her teeth. "Don't touch my sister!" She ran toward the man and stabbed his body. The golden hairpin pierced deeply into a point below his navel.

"Gah!" It seemed that the hairpin hurt him a lot. Little did Hu Cheng Se know, that the weird-shaped hairpin Qing Bo had given her could be considered a national treasure. It was made of a very strong material by the people of the ancient tribes.

Hu Cheng Se got shoved to the side and slammed into a big rock.

"You cursed woman!" He let go of Hu Bai and charged at Hu Cheng Se.

"Third Sister, run!" Hu Bai saw the flame of anger and fury in the silent man's eyes. His deadly, murderous aura frightened the usual calm and composed girl.

But as she thought of her mother's heart being pierced by a sword, she would not let the same dreadful thing happen to her sister.

Hu Bai pulled on the man's robe and gave him a full body slam just before his sword reached Hu Cheng Se's body, making him stagger and back away a few paces with her. Infuriated, he grabbed Hu Bai's pure white clothes that were burnt in some parts by the fire. He grabbed her and stabbed her heart!

Gasp!

It all happened in just a few seconds. Hu Cheng Se's mouth was filling with blood, which she spat out when she got slammed down, unable to move.

Tears filled her eyes. They had been just fine this morning, they had been just fine...

But now, she saw her mother, her sister, even the guards that always accompanied her everywhere, all lying on the snow bleeding, cold, and stiff. Her eyes could no longer see their bodies clearly as her tears started falling down.

She hazily looked at the hairpin in her hand. It reminded her of that irritating guy who took advantage of a competition she didn't even agree to participate in so he could propose to her. It really annoyed her, every time he came and started to argue with her, but now she missed those times.
