The grand hall was two-storied, with the second floor being separated to the left and right wings. The first floor had a higher platform, in the middle of that high platform was the golden dragon seat.
Jin Tao could feel that the tension was building, his face paled. He wanted to say something but he was too afraid. The cowardly prince decided to keep his mouth shut
As the empress was standing on the lower platform, she looked up and met with the Concubine Yue's eyes. There seemed to be an invincible spark formed but the empress still kept her beautiful smile and patiently answered despite knowing what the concubine was up to.
Everyone kept silent as the empress spoke.
"Sister Yue, Lan'er just came back not long ago and his body was not in its best shape." The empress tried to figure out an excuse for Lan's lateness. "He might be recuperating in his courtyard."
"That's weird." Concubine Yue tilted her head. "I think I saw him going to the library these days, he might look pale but at least he should still be able to attend to meet with the people who had been waiting for him, right?"
The empress couldn't say anything to that, she did tell him to attend so she was also wondering. The empress told him that if he could still walk, he should go to the banquet since this might be the only chance for him to make friends with his potential future allies. The empress sighed, Jin Lan promised to attend and he was not the type to broke his promise. The empress looked at Hu Zi with an apologetic smile.
"Unfortunately, this is a fail on your side, dear sister." Concubine Yue reached out to the emperor's arm and circled it with her arms, clearly trying to enrage the empress and stopped her from making that irritating smile. "Now I wonder where he is. Maybe he ran away or simply do not want to attend this banquet even though some of the guests had traveled over the country, crossing the borders just to meet him."
Concubine Yue was trying to act like she protected the earthen tribesmen interest. For now, the earthen tribe only kept the alliance because of the friendship. But, she thought that if she managed to win their heart and maybe made the eastern tribe's home one of their lands in the future, the emperor would be very pleased with her. Concubine Yue looked up, she expected Tora and Ten to be pleased but they weren't. Instead, Ten looked at her with disgusted eyes.
"Is this how the women here conduct themselves in front of the guests?" Ten jumped down to the first floor. "Cutting on someone's speech, acting spoiled, and flirting while everyone's eyes were on them?"
Ten intentionally jumped down so he could feel the ground, but as he expected, the 'seal' around the palace was too strong for him to locate Jin Lan's whereabouts. He looked at Hu Zi, it seemed that she couldn't use her power either.
Fa Sui's eyes widened. "Amber eyes?" His whole body shook. He abruptly looked up. In an instant, his eyes locked with the amber-eyed one. Fa Sui's eyes widened. In his heart, he cursed. He didn't foresee that he would have a small reunion with one of his classmate, one that was super annoying and hard to handle too.
"Don't you all know any shame?" Ten's eyes glinted.

Suddenly, she jolted, the Emperor was putting his hand above her arm, silently pinching it. She looked up and saw the emperor frowned at her, seemingly telling her to let go of his arm. "Mei," the emperor called to his empress, "Do you know where he could possibly be?"
Mei was the empress given name, for some reason, the emperor only called her with the given name, he called his other consorts with their title. "No, I don't, Your Majesty."
"I see…" Even though the emperor didn't like Jin Lan, he still had his use.
The emperor looked at Ten. Even though he was relatively young, he was the only male in the earthen tribe's ruling family, his position was very high. The emperor didn't want to offend him and risked angering the queen of the earthen tribe. The Jin Empire couldn't lose the northern border protection while having difficulties with the southern border too.
Looking that the emperor and the empress standing side by side, made Concubine Yue felt bitter. "He must be feeling lazy and decided to not attend!" Concubine Yue lashed.

"Of course that's not the case. Your Majesty, if he were to walk from his courtyard to the grand hall, then he should've been here before Tao came in." Concubine Yue tried to fuel the emperor's anger. "Since Tao just proved that he wasn't sick by telling that he was on his way here, that could only mean that he ran away!"
