Despite it being her birthday, Eun Young still went to attend work for a few shifts. She only had a number of clients for the day and soon after, she would still have enough time to prepare dinner back at home. She was just thinking about the food she would prepare when suddenly, she heard someone call for her.
"Dr. Lee!" Eun Young turned around to see her good friend Dr. Oh approaching her. She noticed that Dr. Oh held a basket of samples with her, implicating that she was on her way to the laboratory again.
"Dal Rae! I thought you took the day off today. Why are you suddenly here?" Eun Young asked.
Dr. Oh rolled her eyes and sighed. "I actually did. But I just received a message this morning that the laboratory was short on people so I had to come over as soon as I could." She explained.
Eun Young then noticed that Dr. Oh had dark circles under her eyes. Obviously she hadn't slept a wink yet. Geez! Dal Rae really needs to rest soon, or else the kids might mistaken her as a zombie running around the ward.
"So what's up with you hot shot? What's your freaking a** doing here? Seriously girl, shouldn't you be at home having some birthday sex with your husband or something?" Dal Rae nosily teased. "Happy birthday by the way." She added.
Eun Young's cheeks reddened at her friend's remark and she beamed in response. "Thanks! I just have a quick appointment with Mrs. Hong and her son today. After that, there's a few more and I'll be good to go. Do you need help in the lab?" She offered, completely forgetting about her prior plans.
Fortunately, Oh Dal Rae abruptly shook her head. "Nah! Don't worry about me. I'll just finish this set then I'll head off to my cave and hibernate. It's not just you who has plans in bed tonight, okay? How insensitive!" Dal Rae bluffed again.
"Oh shut up!" Eun Young scolded her. "We're in the children's ward for crying out loud!"
Dal Rae heartily laughed. "Promise me we'll celebrate with soju soon, okay?"
"As soon as you get some sleep!" Eun Young conditioned.
"As soon as I get some sleep!" Dal Rae agreed before they went on their separate ways.
In the next hours, Eun Young met her clients one after the other. Luckily, nothing major came up so she smoothly went with her schedule. The kids she were observing were significantly improving and some of the kids confined that she visited earlier were evidently getting better as well. As a doctor, it really pleases her the most to see her patients get well.
As she was passing by the corridors, some of the nurses and some her colleagues would stop by and greet her. "Happy Birthday, Dr. Lee!" They would say and she would humbly express her gratitude.
Soon after her shift ended, Eun Young wasted no time as she hurriedly went home to personally cook their dinner. The kids were very excited as well. They loved their mom's cooking more than any restaurant dishes they've tasted! Also, they've promised to help their mom cook tonight so the little chefs reported for duty.
"Uhm, Mommy?" Jung Hyun called. Aww! He looked so cute in his little blue apron! However, he found it difficult to tie the apron behind him so Eun Young assisted him.
Little Hye Soo has her own little pink apron too. But she was too busy munching on the multicolored cupcakes Eun Young brought home too even bother helping out, much more cooking!
Chef Jung Hyun returned to Eun Young's side after he washed his little hands. "What are we going to cook today, Mommy?" Looking at the counter filled with different veggies and ingredients, Jung Hyun's eyes glowed with excitement. He couldn't wait to begin!
Eun Young bent down to pinch the little guy's nose. "Why don't we make dad's favorite dishes? Sounds good?" She asked.
Jung Hyun smiled as he nodded in agreement. Since dad doesn't usually get the chance to have a taste of mom's cooking, little Jung Hyun thought that this was the perfect opportunity to prepare a feast for him so he approved of his mother's plan without hesitation. The little one helped in washing the veggies while Eun Young took full control of the kitchen.
Alas, the table was filled with different dishes of aesthetic and indeed mouth-watering foods! Even the aroma of the dining area was exquisite! It was almost time for dinner but of course, Eun Young would never miss the opportunity to dress up tonight. It was still her day after all.
While Min Jae wasn't home yet, she hurriedly took a warm shower to freshen up. Afraid that her husband would come home any time soon, Eun Young hastily ransacked the closet until she found the perfect outfit. She also applied a little bit of make up to finish her look.
As she glanced at the mirror, she almost wasn't able to recognize the beautiful woman staring back at her. Although she already gave birth to her two lovable children, her body was still undeniably in shape. The fitted dress she chose even complemented her curves. Her fair skin was glowing and her eyes glowed under the dim lights of the room.
She didn't know why but she felt excited and nervous at the same time. The night was still young. Besides, perhaps her husband just forgot that there was a gift far better than money that only he could give her.
