“Only the people present in the throne room just then know the details, so their praise won’t bring us any trouble.” (August)

He was right. Only those who were in the ruling elite knew the details of the war.

Besides, if the public became aware of the details, there might be a totally different version of the war.

Even so, I wouldn’t believe it until I knew what the public thought of the war, so I decided to ascertain the current situation on the streets.

I was the only one who could use the Optical Camouflage Magic without a cloak. If we went there together, we would get lost, because we wouldn’t be able to see each other’s figure.

I discovered everyone on the street was warmly talking about the battle between my grandparents and the devils as well as us eliminating the devils.

There was a banner saying  ‘Souvenirs of Ultimate Magicians Who Have Subjugated the Devils,’ hanging above each store’s door. There was also a hullabaloo in the chamber as I was the president of Walford Chamber of Commerce.

The exchange sword and the jet boots sold especially well.

The operational situation of the previous days was reported in Earlshide with the communication device.

Putting aside the exchange sword for the time being, the wide use of jet boots was indeed a good thing.

When the war ended, the jet boots might be used for recreation.

I then went back home, but failed to get near my house.

The road to my house was crowded with people.

It had caused a lot of trouble to my neighbors.

Some policemen were redirecting the traffic, trying to disperse the people standing in front of the door and stop them from entering my house.

I watched Alex and other policemen dealing with the people from afar.

I felt sorry, yet I had no choice but to rely on them to solve the problem.

I went to the street later before going to Mark’s and Olivia’s stores to find out how others thought of us, but nobody blamed us.

Raher, everyone praised our subjugation of the devils.

What the public assumed was that the devils weren’t set loose by us, instead, they had somehow detected the attack beforehand and escaped. However, grandpa and others found out and crushed them.

The public believed that it was because grandpa was a guru that he detected the devils’ attack beforehand.

Although they didn’t know the reason clearly, they thought it was quite normal for a  guru to sense the approaching devils.

The worship for heroes had gone too far in Earlshide. The public believed that grandpa could handle any difficulty.

However, our mistakes in the war, for example, someone’s rash action before the war, our failure to notice that and release of the devils, and the blunders in chasing  the devils, were not spread to the public.

The government intentionally told the public about the war in such a way to avoid  upsetting them and to reassure them.

However, what the public heard about the war was neither a fact nor a lie.

The results were as the government had expected.

Was this the so-called information manipulation?

After gathering  information, I opened the gate in a quiet alley and returned to August’s room.

“Brother Shin, welcome back!” (May)

May, in August’s room, warmly welcomed me.

“I haven’t seen you for a long time, May!” (Shin)

“Yes!” (May)

May greeted me with a smile.

As May’s brother, I couldn’t bend my knees when she embraced me, even if her body was strengthened by the magic.

“It’s good to see you, Shin.” (Elly)

“Long time no see, Elly.” (Shin)

Elly was August’s fiancée. I responded to her greeting while being embraced by May.

“How do matters stand? Are there any problems?” (August)

“No one blames us, but we can’t say there aren’t any problems.” (Shin)

“Why?” (August)

I told them what I had seen and heard on the streets.

Hearing that, everyone showed a gloomy expression.

“Is the turmoil really that serious?” (Maria)

“We can’t go to the street now?” (Alice)

Maria and Alice’s words had said it all.

It had already been difficult for us to go to the streets, but now it seemed impossible.

Although I didn’t worry about it, we might not be free to travel in the future.

“The information manipulation was appalling. We expected the public to reprimand us, instead they treated us as heroes.” (Shin)

“What about my store?” (Olivia)

“Ishigamatei? A long line of people have queued up in front of your store, but a part of them walked out disappointedly when they learned that you were not present. I’ve told them that you won’t go to your store right after returning from the battleground, but they were unwilling to believe it. They left without telling other customers the news, so the number of customers is increasing.” (Shin)

“So I’d better go to my store?” (Olivia)

“Yes. Because everyone knows that Olivia, who works as a waitress in that store, is the shopkeeper’s daughter.” (Shin)

Olivia was the only one among us whose whereabouts were clearly known by the public, so people gathered in her store.

Bean’s Workshop nearby also became busier, but it wasn’t as bustling as Olivia’s store.

“Come on, Olivia.” (Alice)

“Olivia, go for it.” (Yuri)

“Don’t act as if it has nothing to do with you, Alice and Yuri.” (Shin)

In that case, customers would be thrown into turmoil by her temporary disappearance from the store.

If the turmoil tended to become more serious, we would have no choice but to tell the customers that Olivia wouldn’t appear in the store anymore.

“It’s so good to learn to use the gate. I didn’t expect there would be such a serious commotion.” (Olivia)

“Am I the only one who seems unreliable?” (Elly)

“Elly, what happened?” (Shin)

Elly sighed, she seemed to be worrying about something.

Only she was unreliable?

“It’s about my wedding. Since the devils have been subjugated, my wedding will take place soon, right?” (Elly)

Pope Ekatarina had blessed them. I didn’t think there would be any problems.

“Because my fiancé is a member of the Ultimate Magicians but I am not.” (Elly)

“That’s what you are worrying about?” (Shin)

“No. Everyone except me has become a hero of the country and the world.” (Elly)

Did Elly care about this?

No. She would be the wife of the crown prince. I don’t think anyone would expect her to become a heroine.

“Elly, you are thinking too much. I believe you will be admired by everyone, because you will be the wife of the prince. Isn’t it special enough ?” (Sicily)

“Really?” (Elly)

Sicily’s words dispelled Elly’s misgivings.

She had comforted me in the same way before.

“Get ready for the upcoming wedding.” (Sicily)

“Sicily, I understand. Thank you.” (Elly)

Elly felt much better.

Elly was the wife of the crown prince, and she would be the wife of the king in the future. She was indeed special.

It was quite common for their wedding to  become a hot topic among the public.

She didn’t need to worry about it.

The pope presided over their wedding where they exchanged their vows in their wedding dresses.

“Unexpectedly, she worried about that.” (August)

“I was surprised too. Generally speaking, people won’t think about that.” (Olivia)

“She is special in every aspect.” (Shin)
“I always think that I can understand what Elly means.” (Sicily)
