Chapter 74 – To me, this album is indeed really important. However it is not at all as important as you.

When Wang Simiao’s voice trailed off, the audience broke into enthusiastic cheers and applause.

The host who stood on the stage let out a laugh: “With hindsight, I would’ve invited Qiao Yichen up to announce the winner. Perhaps we would’ve witnessed a kiss on the forehead or something of the sort.”

The audience burst into laughter. It was only at this time did Ding Meng finally returned back to earth. Qiao Yichen turned his head and eyed at her, his gaze emitting slight amusement: “The host is hinting that you should hurry and go up to receive your award.”

Ding Meng curved the corners of her mouth into a smile and rose from her seat.

Wang Simiao was a rather old man. But at this moment, how he stood on the stage dressed in a suit, made him appear as youthful as before.

Ding Meng received the trophy from his hands, her heart unceasingly in turbulence.

Nearby, the host asked: “Teacher Wang, do you have any comments?”

Wang Simiao spoke: “I’ve listened in earnest to every song from the album 《Thank You》. I can say with conviction that out of all the albums I’ve listened to in the past few years, this one’s quality is one of the best. Not only that the singer herself was superb, but to Qiao Yichen also, can be considered a breakthrough. Prior to this, I’ve also told the media during an interview that every song from this album are all of high quality. They, having received this award, can be said to be well-deserved.”

Wang Simiao spoke his long line of dialogue like an endless torrent, and added on to it even further: “Of course, this does not mean that the album is perfect. Regardless whether it is Ding Meng, or even Qiao Yichen; everyone still has room for improvement. I am looking forward to even better works in the future.”

“Thank you.” Ding Meng gave a deep bow to Wang Simiao, “I’ll continue working hard.”

The host then invited Ding Meng to deliver her acceptance speech. Taking a breath, she walked up to the microphone.

“Thank you to the judges who approved of my album. When I first started this album, my manager was not really in favor of it. Now that I’ve received this reward, I’m able to deliver a satisfactory response. During the making of this album, I’ve encountered numerous hurdles. My marriage with Qiao Yichen had been exposed, I’ve received a great deal of backlash[1], and I even lost a quite a bit of supporters. During that course of time, I was filled with unease that my album won’t sell well, and felt apologetic towards Qiao Yichen because I knew that this album was really important to him.”

Ding Meng paused, eyes redden, sniffed, and continued: “But it was during that time, he still stayed by my side; comforting me and encouraging me. I’m truly grateful to him. Also, online too. Although there were many people who cursed at me, there were friends and lingering supporters who sent supportive messages and letters to me. I’m also really grateful to them. This was the original intention of the album, 《Thank You》. If I never had those people who supported me, I would’ve been unable to overcome those hard times. Today, this album received the Best Album of the Year award. This glory does not belong to me, but belongs to us. Thank you.”

When Ding Meng finished her speech, the little lemons who made a special trip to witness this event wept silently. Even Qiao Yichen felt rather emotional.

The guests at the audience seats began applauding one after another. The host on the stage also gave her an applause. Ding Meng performed yet another bow, then waved her hand with the award held up before returning to her seat.

When Qiao Yichen saw her return, he let out a laugh: “You really deserve to also be this year’s best speaker, stirring up our emotions like that.[2]”

Ding Meng rubbed her eyes, then glared at him: “Who’s stirring up emotions? I was just speaking out my sincere thoughts.”

Qiao Yichen laughed again, gazing at her: “However, there’s one thing I would like to correct.”

“What?”

“To me, this album is indeed really important. However it is not at all as important as you.”

Ding Meng gave a slight startle, her old maiden’s heart pounding frantically.

Qiao Yichen raised the corners of his mouth, patting the top of Ding Meng’s head.

Jiang Man who was seated next to them: “…”

When Ding Meng had received her award, her fans had already ardently posted the news online. One after another, little lemons all over the country had liked the posts.

After the Best Album of the Year award had been awarded, there was also one more major award; the Golden Melody Awards.

This year’s nominations for the Golden Melody Awards included Ding Meng’s title track from her album 《Thank You》, Gu Xin’s title track in his album 《Crazy》, and Tang Shiran’s newly released single, 《Sugar-coated Dreams》.

Although Tang Shiran was walking down the road of an idol at Xing Yao[3], she was constantly releasing new songs. Though every time it would be either a single or an EP, but when looking at this year’s grand total, it amounted to 67 songs.

《Sugar-coated Dreams》 was Tang Shiran’s best song. It was probably the huge sales from Ding Meng’s album that stimulated Xing Yao to finally write a song that allowed Tang Shiran to display the best of her singing abilities.

But when Ding Meng heard the song and compared it to when Tang Shiran first sang in the singing competition back then, there wasn’t much improvement.

This time’s guest announcer for the award was also a musician. After he received the red enveloped into his hands, the spotlights began scattering about.

“This year’s Music Awards Ceremony’s Golden Melody Awards winner is— Ding Meng, 《Thank You》!”

The cheers of the audience onsite erupted louder than the announcement for the Best Album of the Year. The seated little lemons were all going wild, feeling the impulse to rush up onto the stage to perform a dance.

Qiao Yichen once again placed his hand on Ding Meng’s palm. She covered her mouth with her free hand, simply in disbelief. She believed that once she received the Best Album of the Year award, she couldn’t possibly also receive the Golden Melody Awards. Never thought that the judges… would shower her with so much love.

Stepping up to the stage a second time, she prepared to receive the trophy from the announcer into her hands.

But at that moment, the guest announcer suddenly pulled back, not handing it over. Ding Meng dazedly blinked her eyes twice. This segment was not included in the dress rehearsal.

The host that stood on the stage eyed at the guest announcer: “What’s the matter Teacher Liu? Did the trophy’s design captivate your heart?”

The guest announcer responded: “I was just thinking, this trophy ought to be awarded by Gu Xin. How about it?”

The audience once again burst into commotion. The host let out a laugh: “I have no comment. If Gu Xin is willing to come up to award the trophy, then let us invite him up.”

The spotlights then converged onto Gu Xin’s face. Letting out a chuckle, he stood up and began walking up onto the stage.

Arriving on the stage, the host still gave an attempt to tease: “You’ve lost this year’s trophy and also have to personally give it away to the winner. Do you think we’re too cruel?”

With his hands holding onto the trophy, Gu Xin formed a smile: “If I were to say it pleases me more that Ding Meng won this trophy compared to me winning it, would you believe it?”

The fans onsite let out shrieks, accompanied with several guests making ambiguous calls. The host let out a cough, solemnly eyeing at Gu Xin: “Mister Gu, I must remind you. Ding Meng’s husband is still seated below.”

The audience below the stage once again let out shrieks mixed with laughter. The cameraman timely closed the camera in on Qiao Yichen.

“You are all too dirty.” Gu Xin laughed, handing over the trophy to Ding Meng.

“Thank you.” Ding Meng received it, chuckling.

The host asked yet another question to Gu Xin: “Handsome Gu, do you have any words you would like to say to Ding Meng and everyone else?”

Gu Xin thought a bit before responding: “All right. Since everyone else has been giving their acceptance speeches, today I’ll give a defeatist speech.”

Everyone burst into laughter. Gu Xin calmly spoke out: “I’ve said it before when I received the award last year, that I hoped that a competent newcomer would show up into the music industry. This year, this hope has become reality. In all honesty, I’m truly happy; because I’m finally no longer standing on the top alone.”

At that moment, Sima Xiaoxiao who was seated below gave a chilly sneeze.

Gu Xin continued: “I understand the flaws in my albums, but I’m constantly unable to find a method to get rid them. However next year, I have confidence that I’ll be able to create an entirely unique album for everyone.”

The audience applauded. In the midst of applauding, the host spoke: “Then we’ll all be looking forward to Gu Xin’s new album next year!”

After the curtains fell onto the Music Awards Ceremony, Ding Meng was still immersed in the ceremonial atmosphere. Tonight she received both the Best Album of the Year award and the Golden Melody Awards. Undoubtedly, she became tonight’s biggest winner.

Finally pulling herself away from the media’s encirclement, she hopped onto QIao Yichen’s car. As he drove, Ding Meng gazed through the window at the scenery in a dazed manner.

Eventually, Qiao Yichen couldn’t help but speak up: “Still savoring the aftertaste of your moment with Gu Xin on stage?”

Ding Meng: “…”

Surely he’s secretly in love with Gu Xin, right? Otherwise why would he always mention Gu Xin?

Ding Meng let out a sigh, faintly speaking: “I was just regretting that I couldn’t participate in the celebration dinner.”

After the awards ceremony concluded, due to Ding Meng receiving the grand prize, the company had originally planned for a celebration banquet. But this was rejected by Qiao Yichen.

Qiao Yichen eyed at her, saying: “You’re soon about to perform a concert. Do you want to bloat your stomach and ruin your voice?”

Ding Meng pouted her lips, becoming silent. Even after she received the grand prize he was still as serious as ever.

Of course, only when it’s work-related.

At times she would ponder, if only he was this serious whenever he’s on the bed.

Qiao Yichen noticed her gloomy demeanor. He spoke up again: “I’ve prepared champagne. When we return home you can open it up and celebrate.

Ding Meng blinked her eyes: “Whenever did you prepare champagne? Were you so certain that I would receive the award?”

Qiao Yichen proudly spoke: “Naturally. My wife is the best there is.”

Ding Meng eyed at him, letting out a chuckle. She had no comment.

Qiao Yichen spoke: “When the concert ends, I’ll take you to Chuan Chuan. Sounds good?”

“Alright! I want to eat for all that it’s worth![4]” At the mention of Chuan Chuan, the tone of Ding Meng’s voice instantly turned cheerful.

When Qiao Yichen saw her like this, he felt wronged. He asked: “Wife, in your heart, is it Chuan Chuan that’s more important, or me?”

“Of course it’s Chuan Chuan.” Ding Meng answered without hesitation, “You’re not something I can eat.”

Qiao Yichen’s eyes moved, eyeing at Ding Meng: “When we return home, I’ll let you eat me.”

Ding Meng: “…”
