Because of the surprise that came from seeing that the key was for the cockpit of an actual plane, Liz had to take a moment and step back before noticing what kind of plane it was.
She had seen it in the form of keychains that Derek was always interested in, and she had never thought that she would see it in real life.
It was an actual fighter jet.
"A retired MIG-29, lent to us courtesy of the Seattle military base. I have a few connections there. This also happens to be the model in which I learned to fly. And, today, it is the one in which you will be flying for the first time. Ready?"
Understanding that Liz had been too overwhelmed to answer his question the first time, the CEO repeated his words along with a longer explanation.
Just like she had said before, Liz had never been scared of heights and it was also her dream to go traveling where she could hike mountains.
She had also considered doing something like skydiving before, but her family had never been in a state of financial stability that would allow her to take out the money required for such an activity.
Now, she was going to fly an actual plane?!
She couldn't believe it, so she just nodded, hoping that this was not a dream.
After all, who took people flying on the first date?
"Come on."
Saying so, the CEO led the way to the plane, which looked even more elegant up close.
It seemed to be freshly painted, as she could still smell the paint and see how new it looked. After reaching it, the CEO stopped and raised a hand, gesturing at the lock.
With a wide smile, Liz lifted the key and put it into the lock, opening it and letting the cockpit door raise.
Inside, she could see two plush seats, arranged one behind the other, with a bevy of controls which she could make no sense of.
Wait… How was she going to fly if she didn't know anything?
The CEO answered her question.
"Get in. You're my co-pilot, so you only need to do what I ask you to. Don't worry. I have logged over 10,000 hours of flying time, so you are in perfectly safe hands."
Liz had never been one to give in to her inhibitions, so hearing the CEO's confident voice, she nodded and ascended the steps to get into the cockpit.
Also, for some reason, because it was the CEO who was reassuring her, she felt no doubt whatsoever.
After getting in, she felt glad that she hadn't decided to go with a gown, which would definitely have torn by this point.
Thankfully, her leggings gave her enough mobility to fit perfectly.
With that small smile returning to his face, Will bent over to strap on the buckles, as they were different from the ones usually found on commercial flights.
As he did so, he inadvertently moved his neck close to Liz's face.
It happened in a moment, and if both of them weren't so high strung, they might not even have noticed it.
Liz's lips came into contact with Will's neck, making the latter shake almost as if he had endured an electric shock.
As for Liz, she froze and unconsciously breathed out, making her warm breath be felt by Will, who hastily moved back.
As she looked up, she saw that he was breathing heavily, as if he had run a marathon.
Avoiding her eyes, he quickly climbed into the other seat in the plane, before putting on the headset.
Similarly, Liz only looked down without saying anything.
She remembered the moment her lips had touched his skin, and it had felt rough, surprising her as it looked so soft from the outside.
Trying firmly to put the incident out of her head, Liz looked up and the silence was broken by Will speaking into his headset.
"Alpha 687 ready for takeoff, requesting for the go-ahead."
She couldn't hear the reply, but seeing a headset in front of her, she put it on.
"Skies are clear. Have a great flight, Mr. Will. I hope you impress that woman! If she knew the strings you had to pull-"
"Bill. Thanks."
"Oh, she's listening, isn't she? Hey, missy! Remember, if you feel like puking, I placed extra puke bags under your seat. Grab them now. I don't want my cadets cleaning after you! Have fun!"
With these words began the most exhilarating two hours of Liz's life.
Even as the fighter jet took off, the sheer force that she felt pushing on her body made a smile light up her face, and this had actually startled Will, as he had been nervous and almost screamed during his first time.
Of course, then, he had been a teenager.
Clearly, this wasn't a woman who got scared easily.
After the jet reached cruising altitude, he actually saw Liz whooping with delight as she saw the clouds floating past them through the transparent cockpit glass.
He couldn't see her face as he was sitting in the seat behind her, but he could clearly sense that she was having a lot of fun.
Feeling encouraged, he had put his entire flying experience on display, taking them on an incredible course of twists and turns, at one point even tilting the jet upside down, with Liz laughing continuously all the while.
Of course, the laughter had stopped when she got to hold the stick in front of her and actually 'fly' the plane briefly, during which she showed absolute concentration.
And after that, when he took back control, the laughter returned with full force.
For some reason, this sound made him so happy and he wished he could keep listening to it as much as possible.
Sadly, he had only gotten authorization for two hours, so when they touched down on the tarmac and heard Liz's laugh recede into a chuckle, he sighed with a little bit of disappointment.
After getting off, he consoled himself that the date was going well, but even after waiting for a few seconds, he didn't hear Liz getting off behind him.
Scared that something was wrong, he quickly hurried to the cockpit, to see that Liz was still sitting inside.
However, something was wrong.
Just as he was about to ask, she instinctively bent to the side where he was standing, and puked that $ 500 breakfast he had sent in the morning onto him.
