It was only after completely puking her guts out did Liz realize that there was a person in the way.
She had no choice! It seemed that she had been holding it in the entire plane ride, as she was, after all, someone who had been taken on a jet plane ride for the first time.
When she felt the urge become uncontrollable, she had directly bent over the side, remembering that warning given by the man over the headphones.
Now, as she opened her eyes and saw the CEO's disbelieving face, she knew she messed up.
'Wow. Woman, I've been with you since you were born, but you never cease to amaze me. Just…wow. What a date.'
As a mocking voice sounded in her head, she tried not to panic.
Only, there was nothing else to do.
"SORRY! Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry! I really didn't see you there!"
In a pleading voice, Liz joined her hands together and apologized with all her heart.
This man had gone to all that trouble to set up such a dreamy date, and what did she do?
She went and puked on him.
'Classic Liz. When things start going too well, you just gotta ruin 'em.'
Deciding to severely scold this inner voice the next time she got a chance, Liz hurriedly tried to get out, but felt the puke coming again.
She already felt hollow, what more could be there?
This time, she at least had the sense to reach for the puke bags under her seat.
After emptying what was left in her stomach, Liz looked up but didn't see the CEO.
What? Had she actually made the man run away?!
Fearing the worst, she got out, but in her panic, she immediately slipped and almost fell.
Only, just as she was about to hit the ground, she felt a strong hand support her back and stop her at the last moment.
Another hand caught hold of her own hand which had been flailing wildly in the air, not allowing it to hit her savior.
Indeed, it was the CEO, and this scene looked like it was straight out of the movies.
The only difference…it was in no way dreamy.
Or romantic.
At all.
Because she was close to his waist, where she had just puked, all she could smell was vomit, almost making her gag again.
And of course, she had slipped in more of the glorious substance, meaning that the entire place just stank.
Even the poor CEO's hands were still covered in it, so Liz felt slime on her back and hand which made her disgusted.
If she was disgusted at just these little things, how much disgust must this man be feeling?
After all, he was from a background where there were always people to clean up after him.
As she almost got lost in her thoughts once again, she found herself raised into a standing position immediately before the CEO grasped her shoulders briefly to check whether she was stable.
After he did so, he nodded and gestured at her to follow.
"I'm so SORRY! I was really holding it in, and I just didn't see you-"
Finding a chance to apologize again, she started doing so, but stopped when the CEO just held up a hand.
It was enough to show her that she had done enough.
Hence, holding her head down, she just followed, while trying not to wrinkle her nose.
Was he mad? Irritated? Annoyed? Disgusted?....
Her mind was in chaos, but when she looked up to see that they had reached the hangar nearby, she felt…amazed.
The hangar had no plane inside, but the empty space was occupied by something else: an elaborate lunch table, complete with a bottle of champagne and two glasses.
"Mr. Will, what…"
There was a single man dressed in a suit and bowtie, who looked up with shock on seeing the both of them arrive.
While one was completely covered in yellow stuff, the other's head was bent so low that she almost looked as if she was searching for something on her chest.
Raising his hand again, the CEO said, "Don't ask. Bathroom?"
"Right that way, sir. But…we don't have a change of clothes?"
"it's on the way."
20 minutes later, Liz and the CEO both found themselves sitting on opposite ends of the table in silence.
The bathroom had been small, meant for aircraft staff, but it was enough to clean themselves and change.
Courtesy of the myriad perfumes that had been brought over, neither of them smelled like puke…mostly.
Only, the silence between them that had started after the incident had yet to be broken.
Liz was wearing an official pantsuit, as the staff had only been able to find that in her room.
As for Will, he was wearing another of the same suit as before, as if nothing had happened.
'Say something. You started it.'
'What should I say? He probably hates me.'
'No, he doesn't. He hates puke. Everyone does. Doesn't mean he hates the one who puked.'
'Can we stop saying that word? It makes me…'
'Ok, stop, Miss Pukey Pants! Just joke about it, or something. I don't know, does the man have a sense of humor?'
'What do you think?'
'Ok, probably not.'
As even her inner voice fell silent, bereft of any ideas, Liz reached forward for the bottle of Champagne.
Alcohol could do wonders to fix any situation.
Hesitantly, getting an idea, she filled both of their glasses.
The waiter on the side almost moved forward, but she shooed him away with her eyes.
It was time for a little boldness.
Taking her glass, she touched it against the CEO's, making a "CLINK" sound echo in the air hangar.
As he looked at her in response, she said in a neutral tone, "Well, Mr. Will, I forgive you for making me cancel my picnic."
Hearing this preposterous statement in such an inappropriate time, Will had no idea what to say.
He just looked at her, shocked, before shaking his head and picking up his glass.
And as Liz heard his reply, she beamed, knowing that she had acted in the right way.
"Fine. And I forgive you for covering me in vomit for the first time in my life. We're even."
