Jonathan and 6 others were currently sitting in a room, with a large table in front of them on which there were various bottles of alcohol.
Only, none of them were drinking.
All of them had extremely serious expressions on their faces as they caressed the untouched glasses of wine in their hands, as if in deep thought.
Finally, Jonathan spoke.
"If we have to play the long game, then we play the long game. I know that we all want a quick resolution in this matter, but patience will help us receive a resounding victory. I think that we should stop this activity of trying to think up ways to have her disposed of quickly without risking ourselves, and start thinking of a plan to whittle her down, bit by bit. I know I was the one who advocated the former method in the first place, but there truly seems to be no way."
As Jonathan said this, the others nodded.
Indeed, they had all gathered after the meeting to discuss what they could do to 'handle' this uptight woman.
Jonathan had kicked off the meeting by making his dream goal known: it was that Elizabeth would be off the Board, and the company in a week or so, so that they could all go back to their normal lives.
This was typically a strategy used by executives when brainstorming: first, a dream scenario was imagined, even if it was impossible to achieve. With this in mind, adjustments could be made to achieve the best possible version of that scenario.
So, Jonathan had decided to use it here, too.
Only, even after 15 minutes of thought, no one had come up with anything that wouldn't risk them facing the full ire of the CEO.
They weren't afraid of this if they could get away with it, but any plan which involved haste would definitely carry a certain level of inherent risk, which none of them was willing to take.
At this moment, a knock sounded on the door, which made Jonathan look at Ben, who stood up and walked to it to see who was there.
This was a hotel room that they had taken for the night quoting that it was a gettogether of old friends, so, typically, there wouldn't be intruders.
Unless…they were invited.
Turning back after looking through the peephole, Ben said, "It's Mark, the guy who asked to join us. Shall I let him in?"
This made Jonathan frown.
Ben had mentioned something about this relatively young man before, but Jonathan had said that they would make a decision later.
Now, as he saw the man at the door, he asked, "What's his background? Can he be trusted?"
With a nod, Ben replied, "Yes, I went to college with his father. He's part of an old industrial family who made their profits in the '90s. That guy went into the family business, but his son chose to become an executive."
After a moment of consideration, Jonathan waved his arm to show his assent.
After all, what was the worst that could happen?
As Ben opened the door to let in a man in his late 30's who stood out among the others who were mostly approaching a half-century in age, everyone stared at him for a moment before he began his introduction.

With a jovial smile, Mark announced, "Hello, Sirs and Madams! I'm Mark, and I'm honored to join you all. Since the moment that woman appeared in the room, I just couldn't sit still. My dad always told me that one should always be judged by how they got to where they were. She's a disgrace, I tell you!"
Although the disgust in his tone and voice was kind of odd as it was accompanied by a smile, it seemed genuine, which led to Jonathan gesturing at a chair.
"Good. I'm glad to see like-minded young rising stars like you. Maybe, if you impress us, you'll face a much easier time ascending further."
As Jonathan said this, the rest nodded. They were all vice-presidents, which this man was just a Senior Director. There was still quite some gap between them, but it wasn't unpassable in one go with the right support.
In other words, they were offering the carrot to Mark to make sure that he would stay, as they might need a pawn when they took action.
Only, if they knew the thought that ran through Mark's head when he heard Jonathan's statement, they would have been shocked.
'Hehe, I'll have a much easier time, all right. But not with your help.'
After getting this thought and resisting the urge to smile, Mark patted his pocket in a discreet manner.

Meanwhile, in a room a floor above where the meeting was going on.
As Mark patted his pocket, Liz exclaimed and took off the headphones she was wearing.
It had caused a loud sound akin to the banging of drums, as his pocket was where she had placed a listening device.
It was surprising what Will could procure, anywhere in the world, even if he had very short notice.
Beside her, he smiled as he, too, took off the headset before putting it back on.
"He's inexperienced, but he'll get the job done."
This made Liz smile, too.
"Good. Ask him to introduce it now."
If the people in that room were able to see the smile on her face at this moment, they would definitely have gotten second thoughts regarding targeting her.
That was because her gaze…was that of an indomitable cheetah that was eyeing its prey.
Her idea was simple: if she was going to have to face difficulties anyway, then she would rather face them all at once, and beat them into the ground, instead of having a prolonged unpleasant experience.
Also…doing something flashy in the process would definitely have a great effect in aweing the others and making sure that no one else would have any more designs against her.
Also, also…if she did well, Liz would cement her place in the company, and also set the stage to go even higher.
So, her smile broadening, she listened as Mark spoke the statement he had been ordered to do so by Will in exchange for smooth sailing in the company.
"Gentleman and ladies, I propose that Elizabeth Redmaine be named one of the Chief Directors of Operation in this project. Each Chief Director handles a crucial part, and if even one of those mess up, the company will be affected by immense losses and delays. She knows nothing! When she fails spectacularly, we will be laughing the hardest! In fact, all of you can also get into the good books of the CEO by saying that you choose her for this because you trust her and are ready to give a chance! I really think this is the best plan through which we will see that woman crash and fail in as short a timeframe as possible."
