Seeing Elijah stand there with a dumbfounded expression on his face, Liz couldn't help but feel a bit exasperated.
If he was going to react like this to everything she did, it was definitely going to get at least a little bit irritating.
Yet, she decided to let him adjust slowly, as there was no one better than her who could understand how it must feel to be overburdened right after starting a new job.
After giving him a few moments, she waved her hand in front of his face, which made him finally come to his sense and sputter, "T-The President? How?!"
Shrugging, Liz said, "I don't know. But like I said, I'll figure it out. Come on."
Just as she said that and was about to turn around, she saw a large man approach them both.
He was wearing a badge which said that his name was Christoff, and that he was the head of the IT department.
Oh, so he was the one who had partaken of Jonathan's bribe in order to obstruct her work.
This was confirmed when he walked over with a smile and said, "Miss Elizabeth. Nothing personal, I hope you understand. My country has languished with poverty and unemployment for a long, long time. It's no problem if the remedy to that is delayed by a few weeks or months. I get a hefty paycheck, and you get booted out of the Board, which will make Mr. Jonathan happy. Everyone goes home laughing, except you. Serves you right for wanting to show off right after getting to the big leagues."
Liz could honestly never have expected that this guy would clearly admit everything the moment he saw her.
She had expected some kind of veiled threat or warning meant to demotivate her, but right now, all she felt was surprise.
He spoke with a thick accent, and after he was done, he laughed out loud and laid a heavy hand on Elijah's shoulder, who was right behind her.
Elijah was standing right behind Liz, so this meant that this put this 6 foot 3 inches tall man right in front of her, with a menacing expression and eyes that could have scared anyone.
Yet, she wasn't someone normal, and this was conveyed to Christoff, too, when he didn't see her even flinch as he set his gaze on her.
He was used to both women and men cowering under his gaze, and he had a penchant for making them do stuff they didn't want to do. That was partly the reason he had ascended to this position.
Yet, when he saw her stand there resolutely as if nothing could faze her, Christoff felt a bad premonition.
He had never seen anyone act like this.
And because he knew how intimidating he was, he could guess that a special kind of…crazy bravery was needed for someone to stand up to him.
They were in a public place, so logic dictated that he wouldn't do anything.
Yet, anyone wouldn't be able to think rationally in a situation like this.
And this let him know that she was also capable of thinking clearly under stress.
Thus, with just one interaction, he had figured out two very important things about her, but he still shrugged them off, and thought to himself that she was just foolishly brave because she was in bed with the CEO.

After all, what could she accomplish if she had gotten the job using the method that Mr. Jonathan had told him about?
He had explained everything, and even paid handsomely to put up as much resistance as possible, and he had thought that it would be enough.
Well, if it wasn't now, it would be soon, when she realized after futile attempts that there was nothing she could do.
As Liz saw his threatening actions, she realized the motive behind driving both this guy and Jonathan.
They didn't want to demotivate her.
No, they wanted to break her, and make her cower, so that she could run away scared.
With this fact clear, Liz lost all intentions of going easy on them.
She hadn't had the idea of doing anything else in the first place, but this did allow her to make a firm decision she would stick with.
Hence, at this moment, she even pitied this guy, as he signed his own death warrant.
Meanwhile, Christoff's hand on Elijah's shoulder had made the poor kid shake like a leaf in the wind.
As the former 'humphed' and left, Elijah still continued to shake and sweat profusely, but he didn't have a moment of pause as Liz had set off in the direction of the door.
After he frantically followed and got into the car that had driven her here, he was about to ask where they were going, but he stopped when he saw his boss speak up.
"Elijah, don't talk. I'm thinking. In fact, for this whole morning, just observe unless you have something to say that's important. Got it?"
After a moment, he nodded, after which he saw his boss slump back into the seat and bite her lip.
The chauffeur was waiting for instructions, but he remained silent.
Finally, after a minute, Liz straightened her back, as she had just figured out what to do.
She had already read up on the President here, who had invited Happle in the first place to try and solve the problem plaguing his country.
He would be busy all day with other works, so it wouldn't be so easy to get an appointment, even if she asked Will, which she didn't want to do, at all, as it would be a form of admitting defeat.
Finally, she had gotten an idea.
"Chauffeur, drive to this address."

After 20 minutes, Liz and Elijah alighted in front of a gate packed to the brim with security guards.
As he read the plaque near the door, he realized that they had actually arrived at the President's quarters.
Huh? Were they really going to go in? How?
Soon, he got the answer when he saw his boss walk up to the security guard and say something, which once again convinced him that either he was going progressively crazy, or that she was just that shocking, no matter what she did.
"Excuse me? I am a Director from Happle, and I would like to speak with the First Lady of Argentina. You see, the CEO asked me to personally take her inputs regarding what we will be implementing for the women of this country, and the reason I don't have an appointment is that it is something that struck us out of the blue. After all, how can we proceed to implement something without taking the input of the first and foremost lady of the Country? I would also like to thank her for the 'excellent' cooperation from your government. Please pass on the message."
Basically, Liz was…bullsh*tting. But the key was that she was doing so in a way that was believable.
She had no option but to make desperate plays like these if she wanted to triumph by herself.
So all she could do was cross her fingers, and hope that her bluff would work.
And if it did, she would really, really be looking forward to her second meeting with Christoff.
