"What's this?" Xue Jinxu asked when she noticed a peculiarly looking arrangement on the dining table. She just arrived at their dream home.
At this point, their dream home was in a state wherein it's almost livable already. It's mostly filled up with exquisitely designed furniture pieces with the oriental or zen style. The general theme of their house was basically minimalist with the tones of earth colors, accentuated further by the live plants at each corner of the house. It went well with the glass wall at one side of the living room area where the garden and the vast expanse of the estate was visible, as if it was an extension of the living space. It was quite homey and cozy, and it would make the inhabitants just stay at home and cuddle. Even on rainy days, the ambiance would do well to liven up the spirits of the inhabitants while sipping a hot mug of freshly prepared chocolate while enjoying the patting of raindrops against the roof.
Going back, at present, there was a setup of pot and biscuits and seemed to be white and dark chocolates on the dining table.
"Fondue." Chen Linyun answered.
It was five in the afternoon one Saturday. Xue Jinxu drove towards the dream house just to check on the development of their renovations. The workers had gone home early, to Chen Linyun's bidding, because the master of the house would like to spend some quality time with the wife.
"I prepared for it. It's a datenight." Chen Linyun added after seeing the quizzical look on Xue Jinxu's face.
"Datenight? It's a Saturday today. Didn't we agree…"
"Yeah, I know. But we aren't strict with the schedule, are we?" Chen Linyun argued back. "Just think of it as a reward for a job well done in decorating our home. It's so pleasant that I don't want to leave this place even for just a second."
"You'll grow roots, then." Xue Jinxu retorted while laughing a little. "Alright, it's already here. Let's just enjoy it. Actually I'm pleasantly surprised, love." She beamed at him appreciatively.
"Before we dig in, there's more." Chen Linyun added on whil grabbing Xue Jinxu's hand and dragging her towards the veranda outside.
"Tada!" Chen Linyun extended his hands towards the pre-arranged setup. "I've researched about it, it's all the fad."
"Camping at home?" Xue Jinxu raised a brow.
"It's called glamping. I've researched about it. It's a coined term for glam camping." Chen Linyun explained enthusiastically.
In front of them was a tent already pitched, surrounded by a mat and lots of colorful pillows and several snacks. The bushes around were lit by small yellow light akin to dragonflies.
"I'll have the fondue set up near here."
The lady laughed. "Chen Linyun you really prepared for tonight. Great job, as well! Cheers to that!"
"I've also prepared red wine, your favorite. Let's make a proper toast later."
"Okay." Xue Jinxu nodded.
The lovely evening went on. They fed each other fondue, while snuggling comfortably with blankets and pillows. They watched a romantic movie on Chen Linyun's laptop while seated on the mat, and while nibbling on the snacks, under the stars.
It was certainly a successful pull on the heartstrings.
The lady leaned on Chen Linyun's body while he both supported them. Once in a while he sniffed the pleasant scent of herr hair. He pierced a piece of apple with the stick, dipped it onto the fondue and fed the wife. She accepted it absentmindedly while her eyes were glued on the laptop screen. Her hand was busy caressing the husband's forearm. They were contented in this position for a long time, neither speaking nor moving.
When the movie ended, the lady stood up, "I gotta go. It's getting late."
"Yeah, it's getting late. Let me drive you home." Chen Linyun insisted.
"No, you're already home. I'll be fine."
"Jinxu." Chen Linyun warned.
The lady fidgeted a little. "Alright, if you insist."
"On second thought, this is your home too. Why don't you stay for the night? The tent is ready. We can opt not to sleep at all, stay up all night, and watch the sun rise together tomorrow. How's that?"
"Chen Linyun, I didn't know you're THIS romantic." Xue Jinxu pointed out, still amused.
"I've done my research." He felt his face flushed, and true enough, his tomato-face was showing.
The lady closed their gap and planted a peck each on his burning cheeks. "Tomato-face." She said gently, lovingly. With her thumb, she rubbed the marks on his cheeks that were left by her balm.
"So are you staying?" Chen Linyun reiterated.
This time, the lady's face flushed red. During their datenights, it always ended with them going home separately. They had not shared a night together, yet.
"What are you thinking, Jinxu? You're face betrays you." Chen Linyun jokingly attacked. There's apparent mirth on his visage. He was chuckling internally.
"Nothing! Did you plan this?"
"No." Chen Linyun got serious. He faked a yawn. "I'm sleepy. Suit yourself. If you want to go home tonight, I won't stop you. But I bet the tent's a better choice tonight. You choose." After that he went inside the tent.
After getiing in, he swore he wanted to take a peek, or better yet just grab her into the tent, end of story. But then, he's allowing her to decide. This whole sham actually was surprisingly exciting. He was still inwardly chuckling.
After little more while, Xue Jinxu gingerly entered the tent.
"Oh, you're still here, Jinxu? I thought you already went home! Oh, right, you're home already." Chen Linyun bantered with such an animated tone.
Xue Jinxu was annoyed, but was also enjoying it. She spanked him fakely, and scolded him a little too. "Chen Linyun!" She was annoyed, but she was smiling too. "Hahaha! You sly fox."
"Let's watch the sunrise together tomorrow." Xue Jinxu requested. She lied down on her side while staring at Chen Linyun who also turned to his side.
"En. Let's do that."
The two were drowning into each other's stares.
