*BLAG*

It was the sound of a mobile phone hitting the ground.

The person who dropped it was still in shock, unmoving, a hand hovering her gaping mouth, with eyes wide open but not seeing. She started trembling, and with the fall of her tears, she threw herself headfirst onto her bed and wailed. With face buried, and pillows drenched in her tears, she clenched her chest and wept some more.

Teng Man Rui had just gotten the news about the Xue siblings' accident.

Quivering, and with all her energy expended from the crying, she felt weakened, yet she could not stop crying until her head suffered from a splitting ache, and no more tears escaped her eyes. She whimpered, tearless, while still clutching her deeply hurting heart.

Was it just a few days ago when they parted ways?

She could still vividly remember every moment of it.

When Xue Jinxu decided to move in with her husband, Chen Linyun, the ever-loyal best friend, Teng Man Rui felt that there was no need for her to stay any longer at her friend's apartment. After all, she was only there with the objective of taking care of her – making sure that her well-being has recovered successfully after the unfortunate miscarriage.

Upon discussing the matter with Xue Jinxu, they met with a consensus that Teng Man Rui will also leave the apartment when Xue Jinxu does.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay here?" Xue Jinxu asked a hundredth time at that time.

"I'm sure." She smiled warmly, wrapped one arm around her friend's shoulders and leaned her head onto hers. "I don't want to intrude anymore. Plus my parents are asking for me. They might feel hurt and unimportant if I delay any further in going back."

"I understand, Man Rui. I am forever grateful for the help and love you bestowed upon me during these times." Xue Jinxu wrapped her arms around her friend too.

With swelling emotions and the compelling force of their sisterhood, they stayed in that position for a long time, both eyes misty from the unshed tears they were trying to hold.

And then they both laughed at themselves.

"We're so funny! It's not as if we're going extremely far from each other!" The other kidded.

"Hahahaha!! Right, right! We're still both in Beijing! We can meet anytime!"

"But it's different when we live together."

"Yeah…"

They hugged each other until they were both satisfied. Afterward, they packed their belongings and left together, one going back to her parents' place, and the other towards a new life with her husband.

That was the last time they saw each other.

Now, what she could not fathom was the fact that there's even the possibility of them not seeing each other ever again.

She took some deep breaths in an attempt to calm her nerves. However, when she calmed, another surge of tears fell down her ashen cheeks. At this rate, she would have fainted.

True enough, after a few more minutes of crying and pouring out her anxiety and pain from the unwelcomed news, she succumbed into slumber.

It was already dusk when she awoke from her nap. Rays of the setting sun infiltrated her room from the west wing window through the dancing curtains of her spacious room.

In a way, the nap – or was it the sun's rays - had brought out some sense onto her. She was calmer but with a frigid, heavy heart.

Teng Man Rui went into a saunter to clear her mind away. She listlessly roamed around without heeding any direction.

Finding an empty bench, she sat at it and stared into the horizons. 'She's in a coma.' She fought hard not to start another fit of trembling.

'I should go there and visit. I should stay by her side. What am I doing here?'

With a newfound determination, she stood up and turned towards the direction of their home.

But…

Before she could even reach home, Teng Man Rui stopped in her tracks upon seeing a familiar silhouette from afar.

'I couldn't have mistaken him for another…'

The silhouette of a man sharpened as he drew nearer.

"Fan Hai." Teng Man Rui called.

"Man Rui." The man from the shadows whispered.

Teng Man Rui stood still, busy scrutinizing his countenance.

The man who was so arrogant before, who used to have this taunting gaudy grin, was now wearing such defeated aura. His face had the weight of burden on every line on his forehead, and dark shadows under the eyes.

"Are you okay, Fan Hai?" Teng Man Rui asked wearily, anxiously. Despite everything, she wanted to console him. In the middle of worrying, she reached out her hand but stopped it in midair before withdrawing it.

The man sighed dejectedly.

"Man Rui..."

He kept on calling her name.

He took one step and another. Just with slight proximity to the lady, he stopped in front of her and bent forward.

Teng Man Rui's body automatically went rigid.

Shi Fan Hai rested his tired head on Teng Man Rui's left shoulder. "Stay still. I mean no harm."

"Just."

He gently clasped her forearm, trying to keep her in her place. "Just stay still."

Teng Man Rui narrowed her eyes. She was cautious of this man, yet undoubtedly she still cares for him tremendously. Her heavy frigid heart was pinched a million times from witnessing his pitiable state.

And as if the man still needed to plead for the lady to stay still. Teng Man Rui was frozen in place. Her body turned stiff the moment the man's head landed on her shoulder.

She was dubious and nervous and what not.

This was their first reunion after they ended everything between them. She thought she would get mad the moment they saw each other again. Yet… What was she feeling right now?

'I cannot understand.' Teng Man Rui helplessly thought. 'I only want to console him right now.'

She closed her eyes for a while before opening them again and answered him. "En."

"Fan Hai, what's wrong?" She inquired softly, soothingly.

"Stay with me, Man Rui." He buried his face even more. The atmosphere was gloomy. With one action, he pulled her successfully into a tight embrace. "Stay with me."

With clenched fists, she was compelled to agree. 'This version of him was almost the same as the time when we first met. What's wrong with him?'

Originally, her arms fell limply on her sides while the man hugged her tightly. She wrapped both arms around his waist, returning the hug, and whispered with such solemnity. "En."
