Looking around I try to figure out where I am. There is nothing around me, it was like an endless sea of nothingness. I rub my arms, I felt a chill creep deep into my bones, as I tried to figure out just what was happening to me,

I'd been heading to participate in a mini-game when someone got killed. All the blood... it'd triggered something, at least I think it did. Rubbing a hand along my face, I decided to start walking, I had no idea where I was but in the end, I suppose I could only go with the flow.

This space seemed to stretch on for miles as I continued to walk, nothing changed and I had no idea if I was moving forward or backward in the end. Biting my lip I stop this was getting me nowhere.

Sighing, I decided to just sit down. Maybe something would come my way if I just waited.

But nothing came in the end, it was silent and dark.

Rubbing a hand down my legs, I try to drive away the cold that invaded my body.

"Where am I?" I mutter out.

In an instant, a loud bang travels through the soundless nothingness and send me body sprawling through the air. What the fuck was happening?!

"Alice!"

"Alice! Wake up!" A voice screams in the space and as if by magic, I felt myself jerk up. Sweat pouring down my neck and back, looking around I try to find the source of the voice.

All of the sudden, I felt my body get sucked upwards and then the soundless void vanished and what appeared was a room, it was a large room and there were other people in it as well. Twisting my head around, I noticed about ten other kids, they were all dressed in uniforms and had numbers on their chest.

A vacant look rested in their eyes as they looked at me with a mixture of fear and confusion. I felt something dripping out of my nose, raising a hand I found that it was blood.

"Number 019, what are you doing?" A loud voice boomed through the room and I felt my body move on its own.

In an instant, I was standing straight and my head held high as I looked up at a man with a deep scar running from his upper temple to his neck, his eyes are hard and cruel. This was a man that left a deep trace of fear in my mind, I couldn't remember why but something in me just knew.

I felt my body shake as he approached me, he wore a military uniform and has a name sewn into his shirt, Sato. That was his name, but I already knew that somehow. Stalking towards me like a panther stalks towards its prey he arrives swiftly in front of me. His body was wide and ozzed dominance as he looked down at me.

I felt my back straighten even more at his close inspection, I don't think I was even breathing at this point. If I breathed, I'd be hit.

"019 why are you stopping continue," his voice was crisp and clear. It wasn't till then that I realized that I was fighting someone. I couldn't move my eyes away from his, but the noise in the room had dimmed, no one dared to speak or move.

Why was I fighting someone...

I tried to wrap my brain around what was happening, but somehow I was already answering his question, it was like I wasn't in control of my body. Wait, my hands... they're child's hands and they are covered in blood.

There is so much blood on my hands, I felt my heart race pick up. Why?

"Sir, she's unable to continue fighting," my voice promptly answered. It was a child's voice. That's right I had been fighting, because I'd been ordered to fight.

As it dawned on me a hand shot out and slapped me across the face, it was enough to send a full-grown adult sprawling to the floor, but my body stands firm. More blood trickled out of my nose, but I don't move to wipe it away.

"019 did I say that you could stop? Until I say stop you don't stop!" He yelled at me and stepped to the side. It was then that I noticed the girl on the ground.

Her one eye's swollen shut and cut, with her good eyes she looks up at me pleading. Fear, there was so much fear in her eyes. She wasn't much older than eight, she was so young.

Looking down at my own hands, I realized that she was the same age as me. Fight, I had to fight. If I didn't fight then I would die, to fight was to survive.

I had to survive!

My eyes looked at the little girl on the floor, 027, that was her number... her name. Here we didn't have names, no until you proved that you weren't just another number. She was weaker than me, a quiet whimper left her mouth as she tried to crawl away.

No one stopped her, there weren't other instructors around the room but they didn't make any moves. She was barely able to move, I remember that she had attacked me.

She'd tried to smash my eyeballs, but I'd punched her in the jaw. Sending her away from me, but she didn't relent, it was her own fault... I had no choice.

Soon afterward I'd broken her legs, she'd punched me in the nose and that's when I stopped. It knocked me out of the violent induced trance.

"019... continue," his voice fell onto my ears and my body moved.

I walked towards her.

No!

I shouted at my body, but it didn't listen.

Soon I was over top of her, I grabbed her by the hair.

"Stop!" She screams as I jerk her up by her hair.

I grab her head and wrap a hand around her neck, placing another around the upper part of her head. She struggled, her hands clawed and grabbed at my hands, I felt her tear into my skin.

Still, I didn't stop, I couldn't stop.

I tightened my grip on her head, her hands continued to struggle.

Soon, the sound of gasping started.

"P-plea...se," I felt tears stream out of her eyes as her hands fell from around my arms. My blood and flesh between her nails and on her hands.

I felt my grip loosen a bit.

"019 don't stop!" That cruel voice sounded again and I continued.

I felt my breathing quicken and I felt the life drain from her body. Her legs stopped twitching and then she turned into dead weight, I held on for I don't know how long.

"Stop 019," this time the voice was softer a pleasant note in the normally pissed off and cruel voice.

My arms dropped to my side away from her neck, her body fell to the ground with a thud.

Clap.

Clap...

Clap.

The crisp sound of clapping entered into the air and I turned around to find him clapping along with the other instructors.

"019," internally I felt like screaming... I had killed her... in cold blood," good job," he walked towards me and raised a hand rubbing my head.

I turned my head up to look at him and his outstretched hand. A warm feeling boiled up in my gut... I'd done a good job!

A feeling of joy washed over my body at his words, I didn't even cast another thought at the girl that was lying dead on the floor not even ten feet away from me.

Just what had I been...
