Ah!!" A shrill scream pierced through the silent night sky.

One of the girls who was standing near the edge of the rooftop immediately backed away from the creature, her face frozen in terror.

Gao Peng checked the creature's attributes.

[Monster Name]: Green Haunt

[Monster Level]: Level 20

[Monster Grade]: Normal

[Monster Attribute]: Ghost/Ghoul

[Monster Ability]: Illusion Level 1

[Monster Weakness]: Light/Holy/Electric

[Monster Status]: Healthy (Nervous)

[Special Characteristics]: It feeds off of fear. It can convert the fear of other living beings into Yin-type attacks.

The fact that Gao Peng could check its attributes must have meant that they were dealing with a monster.

They shouldn't have had too much trouble with it if they had treated it like any other monster and not some phantom that had once haunted superstitious minds in ancient times.

Knowing its ability and weaknesses would also give them an edge against it.

Unknown to everyone, a thick fog had suddenly descended upon the rooftop.

Two tendrils of fog slowly rose out from the edge of the building and began searching them up and down.

Below the balls of fire was a long, slender body. Its bald head was filled with lumps, which a sickly yellow pus dripped from.

"What is it?" someone asked, too afraid to take another breath.

Droplets of water suddenly flooded beneath them until their feet were submerged in a layer of water.

Gao Peng tried to pull out his right leg from the water, but it immediately pulled him back down.

"What a troublesome ability..." said Gao Peng, narrowing his eyes at the Green Haunt. He couldn't help but feel an appreciation for how real its illusions had felt.

"Run!" shouted the communications department head. A monster capable of altering its surroundings must have been above Commander-tier. None of their familiars could possibly match it.

He then ordered his familiar to cover their retreat. "You guys go. I'll try to hold it back while you report this to the police. This is beyond our abilities."

Seeing that the humans still trying to put up a fight, the Green Haunt became even more enraged. It expanded its body like a balloon and let out a horrible shriek, which stirred up a wind around it.

"My god," said the communications department head under his breath. It had grown more than 20 feet tall. Its arms were now as long as spears.

"Quack!" Startled by a sudden quack nearby, he turned around and saw a duck running past him, leaving a golden trail of light in its wake.

"Come back!" The communications department head, Cao Jin, head tried to grab the duck's tail, but failed.

The yellow duck's webbed feet made slapping sounds against the concrete floor as it rushed towards the Green Haunt. It leapt 10 feet into the air, its wings flapping continuously on both sides.

It aimed its right foot at the monster's leg, ready to kick it roughly.

It was like watching David aiming a kick at Goliath's leg.

Suddenly, the duck's body gleamed with a blue light. Then, like a needle popping a balloon, the illusion vanished. The puddle of water that had appeared beneath their feet, the vicious-looking entity, and even the thick fog in the air all evaporated instantly.

The duck had managed to dispel the Green Haunt's illusions!

Cao Jin could now clearly see everything on the rooftop.

A two-foot-tall, sickly-looking creature was clinging to the edge of the rooftop, glaring evilly at everyone. It had a bulbous head and stick-like limbs protruding from its body. It let out a horrifying shriek.

Goldie kicked it in the face. That will teach you not to shout!

Bang!

The Green Haunt was kicked off the rooftop by Goldie.

"Why did you do that?!" said Gao Peng angrily. The sound of something hitting the ground reached his ears just as he craned his head over the edge of the rooftop.

Damn.

Upon seeing Goldie fixing its feathers with its beak without a care in the world, Gao Peng didn't know whether to laugh or hit its head.

He had wanted to capture the Green Haunt and bring it back home to study further. Who would have thought that Goldie would send it falling to its death?

Nothing could have survived such a fall.

"Where did the monster go?" someone asked. The others, who had been hiding inside the stairwell, warily poked their heads out from the doorway, only to find Cao Jin standing like a statue on the silent rooftop.

Jun Moyi, who had watched everything with an impassive face, patted the heads of his two-headed dog and calmly walked down the stairs.

The Green Haunt had landed on a flower bed.

When Jun Moyi reached the spot where the Green Haunt had landed, all that he could see was a puddle of green blood. Its body had disappeared.

"Woof!" The two-headed dog let out an excited bark and began following the monster's scent to the other side of the flower bed.

Gao Peng and the others soon caught up to Jun Moyi. Just then, they saw a figure carrying something in its arms up ahead. Sensing their presences, the figure immediately bolted.

"Stop!" shouted Cao Jin.

The two-headed dog's eyes grew redder as it ran after its quarry.

No bipedal could outrun a quadruped like Jun Moyi's dog. Seeing that the dog was closing in on him, the man threw the Green Haunt's body to the ground and ran into an alley.

The dog did not slow down its pursuit. It then leapt forward, each of its head sinking its fangs into the man's legs and causing him to fall over.

Gao Peng and the others finally caught up to them. "Is this monster yours? Why would you do this to me?" asked Li Yu, visibly agitated. He then give the stranger a hard kick.

"I've got nothing to do with it. It's not my monster. I just thought I could earn a bit of money by selling its corpse," said the man, shielding his head with his hands.

"Li Yu, I think we should turn him over to the police," said Cao Jin.

Soon, the police arrived at the scene and started interrogating everyone. The Green Haunt's corpse and the man who had tried to abscond with it were then brought back to the station.

Gao Peng glanced wistfully at the Green Haunt's corpse. Unable to find any use for it, he decided to let the police have it.

When all was said and done, Li Yu began thanking everyone for helping him out and promised to treat everyone to dinner one of these days.

After waving goodbye to everyone, Gao Peng got on a taxi and went back home.
