Chapter 129: Do You Mean to Make Young Master Lose His Appetite?

Translator: Storm in a Teacup

“You’re kidding. You were just doing your job. It’s not like you did anything wrong.” Lin Xiaomi paid no mind and said, gently rubbing the red bruise on the back of her hand.

She could tell that Cheng Min held a high position here, as all servants seemed to be intimidated by her. Even A’Xing seemed to show her more respect, which proved that she wasn’t just any servant.

Lin Xiaomi might be their Young Master’s wife but she had no say in this house. If she offended Cheng Min by complaining about such a small matter, her life here would be a living hell.

Besides, Young Master might not even take her side. After all they only met each other for the first time today.

Knowing that Lin Xiaomi wouldn’t make a fuss about it, Cheng Min gave her a contemptuous look, turned around and gave an order, ”A’Lv, go prepare a guest bedroom for our madam.”

A guest bedroom?! Shouldn’t madam sleep in the same bedroom as Young Master does?

Confused, A’Lv froze, but then she met Cheng Min’s glare, and she was horrified and answered immediately, “Yes, I’ll see it done.”

After they went downstairs, Cheng Min pointed at where the kitchen was and said, “Madam, it’s time that you prepared dinner for Young Master. Young Master is particular about his food. He never eats anything that’s not delicately done. I hope that you won’t turn out to be a disappointment.”

At this moment Lin Xiaomi knew literally what it felt like to face unsurmountable stress.

After visiting Young Master’s bedroom, she understood perfectly well what delicacy meant to him.

And Cheng Min wasn’t exaggerating about that.

With her cooking skills, she might be able to fool anyone else, but she wouldn’t be able to pull it off in front of Young Master.

Lin Xiaomi was upset. And when she saw Cheng Min’s gloating face, she felt discouraged.

She knew that Cheng Min couldn’t wait to see her embarrass herself.

Lin Xiaomi went to the kitchen, took out her phone and googled online. Looking at the pictures of the cuisine made by those chefs, she couldn’t help but start to drool.

Would she make it if she followed a recipe?

Lin Xiaomi knew she’d fail even before she tried.

Was there any chef out there who didn’t practice years just to master the basic skills?

If she could make a big, fancy dinner by just following a recipe, then anyone else could be a chef.

She knew that copying others wouldn’t necessarily do any good.

She wasn’t capable of it, so why overstretch herself just to embarrass herself?

She’d rather make a homemade meal than try to cook something fancy which she wasn’t good at.

Lin Xiaomi couldn’t help but think of Lin Hai.

He was the pickiest person she’d ever seen.

If he said something was tasty, then he meant it.

Lin Xiaomi made the four courses that she knew Lin Hai would love.

She’d always thought that Lin Hai was a thorn in her side. He was so fussy about his food that the last thing she ever wanted to do was cook for him. But now she regretted it. Even if she meant to make a dinner for him, he wouldn’t be able to eat it.

Lin Xiaomi’s eyes started to well up with tears. She thought of Lin Hai while cooking, and it was the first time that she put so much heart into it.

Sweet and Sour Fish, Braised Pork Ribs, Cheese and Shrimp Meat, Scrambled Eggs with Tomatoes, and Egg Drop Soup.

Lin Xiaomi took the plates out and saw that there were already eight courses on the table. All of them were beautifully crafted and presented, which looked even more appealing than the pictures of the cuisines provided by restaurants.

She watched while Cheng Min set the table, with an apron still around her waist. There was no doubt that she made all of those.

Yes, Cheng Min indeed had an ace up her sleeve. As far as cooking skills went, she could totally rival those chefs of Michelin 3-star restaurants.

Lin Xiaomi knew she was fighting a losing battle here. Having taken off her apron and handed it to a servant, Cheng Min walked over and saw the dishes that Lin Xiaomi took out. She asked in astonishment, “Madam, you’re gonna make Young Master eat these? Do you mean to make him lose his appetite? I suggest that you take some cooking classes before you start to take over his daily diet.”

Lin Xiaomi untied her apron. She felt bad but she couldn’t allow someone to talk to her like that and get away with it.

“I am not hired to cook. Of course I am no match against you in this regard,” Lin Xiaomi blinked her eyes innocently, while Cheng Min stared at her with fury.

Who would expect Lin Xiaomi to fight back without even using any swear words?

Cheng Min didn’t plan to waste more time on this. She knew perfectly well what kind of food appealed to Young Master. When he saw the courses presented by both of them, he’d realize who did a better job.

At this moment, Leng Yihuang entered the dining room and he saw the courses placed on either side of the table. He stopped for a second and then walked towards the table. With just one look, he recognized Lin Xiaomi’s cooking.

He looked at Lin Xiaomi and asked in a flat tone, “You made these?”

Embarrassed, Lin Xiaomi clutched her clothes and nodded, “Yes.”

As soon as Leng Yihuang sat down, Cheng Min walked over and picked food up onto his plate with serving chopsticks. Unsurprisingly she started with Lin Xiaomi’s courses, as in her views, they were not edible and Young Master wouldn’t even take one bite.

Lin Xiaomi was super nervous; she didn’t forget what he said. If she didn’t serve him well, he wouldn’t help her get her revenge.

Besides Lin Xiaomi and Cheng Min, all the servants present were waiting to see how Young Master would react.

With all of them staring at him, Leng Yihuang took a piece of pork rib that was neither undercooked nor overcooked into his mouth, and then some shrimp meat, and he even drank some of the soup.

Leng Yihuang didn’t give any comments while he ate, so Lin Xiaomi asked tentatively, “Young Master, what do you think?”

She didn’t have the nerve to hear what he was gonna say.

Leng Yihuang answered, “Not bad.”

Lin Xiaomi couldn’t believe her ears and asked again, “Really?”

To Lin Xiaomi, that meant that the food she made was not too bad, but she didn’t notice the stiffness on Cheng Min’s face and the amazed look on the servants’ faces.

Young Master never praised anyone. Never once did he give any comments when he ate the food Cheng Min made.

By Young Master’s standard, “Not bad” meant that he thought it delicious.

It was not until then that Leng Yihuang realized that Lin Xiaomi was still standing there. He frowned and said, “What are you standing there for? Take a seat.”

“Okay.” Lin Xiaomi did as he said. The moment she sat down, Leng Yihuang said to Cheng Min, “Get a bowl of rice for her.”

Cheng Min looked at Leng Yihuang with bewilderment, but when Young Master gave an order, she couldn’t possibly defy it.

Even her movements seemed stiff as Cheng Min walked towards Lin Xiaomi and put the bowl of rice next to her hand. Cheng Min was gonna continue picking up food for Leng Yihuang.

But he waved his hand and started to do it by himself.

These days, Leng Yihuang didn’t have one satisfying meal. The food was exquisitely done and it tasted great, but he always felt that something was missing.

Just now after he ate the food Lin Xiaomi made, he got back that old feeling.

Homemade food made people feel at home, right?

Out of everyone’s expectation, Leng Yihuang ate all the food made by Lin Xiaomi and didn’t even touch those made by Cheng Min.

Even Lin Xiaomi was surprised that he’d eat so much of her food.
