As she screamed, Xiao Jun felt something sharp go against her neck and she glanced down slightly. The assassin had instead held a sword to her neck instead of instantly killing her.
"Don't come closer! Come any closer and the lives of both your princess and her child will be gone!" He yelled, she looked in front of her and saw that Yun Long was standing not too far in front of them with Yue Qi.
"Let. My. Wife. Go. She has done nothing wrong to harm you." Yun Long coldly said, his eyes were dark in anger and he just seemed to omit this cold aura.
"Has done nothing to harm me? She's done enough by living that day! She should've just died with that brother of hers! It's my fault that I was incompetent and was unable to kill her. Don't you wonder why you had all those assassins after you?" The assassin laughed, pushing the sword closer to her throat as it pierced the skin just lightly.
Glancing at the sword again, Xiao Jun made a quick movement and grabbed the sword from the assassins hand and pointed it at him. She may be pregnant but that didn't mean that she was incapable of grabbing a sword. Her hands shook as she felt the urge to kill the man that had killed her brother.
"What? You want to kill me? Do it." the man laughed, he walked towards the sword and assumed that since she was a princess, Xiao Jun wasn't capable of welding a sword, nonetheless even killing someone.
When the man took out a dagger from his sleeve and aimed it towards Xiao Jun, she didn't hesitate to kill him, finally moving her arms as she let out a battle cry and stabbed it right through his stomach as Yun Long ran forward to block the dagger that was coming towards her.
He blocked the dagger with his arm as he pulled Xiao Jun into his embrace and suffered a stab wound.
'Why hadn't there been guards on duty?'
Yun Long frowned as he wondered why this part of the palace didn't have any guards and then he glanced down at the woman in his arms.
Shooting a flare, Yue Qi caught the attention of the royal guards and they all came running over, thinking that there had been a break in.
"Yun Long... you..you came.." Xiao Jun said, she looked up at the man, still in a daze about what had happened just earlier.
Her eyes widened when she finally came to, realizing that he had been hurt. She grabbed his arm gently and looked it over, "You're bleeding..I'm sorry.."
He sighed and hugged her close, "It's just a bit of blood spilled. I'm just happy that you're safe."
Not hesitating, she picked up the dagger from the ground and cut part of her dress, using the cut cloth to wrap around his arm.
The assassin was picked up and dragged away by two guards and a few other guards had alerted the other princes along with the Emperor and Empress.
Sitting in the main hall, the Emperor and Empress looked at each other before sighing.
Sitting on the side with Yun Long, Xiao Jun asked, "What was the assassin talking about when he mentioned that big brother and I should've never been born?"
Her parents looked confused for a moment before their eyes widened and they glanced at each other again.
"It's time we should've told you. We should've informed you much earlier.." her mother sighed.
Her father stood up and looked out far, like he was trying to get a hold of his emotions.
"Long ago, before you were born, I had concubines like any other noble would have. I didn't have as many, just had about four. Never did I sleep with them but you see, one of them took it to heart and developed an infatuation with me and tried to covet the spot of Empress."
He walked down from the throne platform and looked at Xiao Jun.
"Your three brothers had been born already, she was upset that the Empress had three sons and she bore none. But how could I go and sleep next to another woman when I had your mother, my Empress? The girl was clouded by her envy." he shook his head, he could never bring himself to sleep next to another woman while leaving his one and only Empress to turn towards a cold and desolate side.

Hence why her brother came after you, he blames us for her death when her family sent her to us, having trained her to act like so if she didn't get her way."
Xiao Jun nodded and then said, "Is that why you don't have any concubines to this day?"
The Emperor nodded, "One's harem will never have a day of peace. It is better to not have one at all as it is a breeding ground for jealously and scheming. So many children die just because of scheming mothers who want more then what they already have."
Sitting in a pavilion with Yun Long, Xiao Jun leaned her head on his shoulder. Not saying anything, Yun Long kissed her forehead and held her hand.
Together, they sat like that in each others embrace until night fell...
