Once We Come Across Love Chapter 15

With Yin Zihan’s help Xiao Tu’s grades improved rapidly. By the end of the semester her grades were much better. On the day of the final exam, she walked out of the examination room with a lot of confidence.

“Xiao Tu, how did you do on the exam?” asked Yin Zihan. He was coming out of the exam room at the same time. He was smiling at her.

“Good. I think. This exam wasn’t so bad, because you helped me.”

“Really? If your rank goes up remember to invite me to dinner!”

“I will.” Xiao Tu patted her chest to pledge her sincerity.

Her smile was bright as the sun and it dazzled Yin Zihan.

Xiao Tu hummed a happy tune all the way to her dorm. She had passed her exam and now it was time to go home and pack for winter break. Yay!

All was peacefull in the dorm until Jiang Juan stormed in and began wailing. “I’m going to die! I can’t live anymore!”  Her sudden noise startled everyone. He Tian who had been applying a mask dropped all her cucumber slices.

“Juanzi, you scared me!” He Tian clutched at her heart. She looked sorrowfully at her cucumber slices scattered all over the ground.

“What’s wrong, Juanzi?” asked Ouyang Mei. She had been shadow boxing and stopped mid-move.

Juanzi flung herself and Ouyang Mei. “You guys must help me kill Jia Swen. I want to strangle him so bad.

Ouyang Mei replied with all earnestness, “Juanzi, as a person who practices martial arts, how can I bully a weakling like Jia Siwen?”

“He IS an old and weak woman! Jian Juan spat out hatefully. “That bastard is truly XXX. Because of him I spend too much time talking during class, and it affects my study. If I didn’t’ pass the final exam, he is to blame.”

“Juanzi, how is this his fault?” interjected Xiao Tu.

“How it not his fault!” It’s because of him that I can’t pay attention during class. How am I supposed to learn anything if I’m always talking to him.”

“You could just ignore him.”

Reflecting on this advice, Jiang Juan sighed sadly. “I try. But I can’t help myself. He’s so quiet and he has such a pitiful white face. He just won’t answer me no matter how much I talk.”

Xiao Xiao Rabbit: "..."

Ouyang Mei: "..."

He Hetian: "..."

This is what Jiang Juan’s loud wailing amounted too?

[This part was confusing. The machine translation literally reads that Jia Swen talks too much in class and is a distraction. But earlier he’s described as a quiet kid, which is a huge inconsistency. I did my best to sort out what I think the author intended. My bad if it’s wrong]

Just then someone outside shout up, “Xiao Tu, your boyfriend is waiting for you downstairs!”

Xiao Tu, who was packing her things for home, sat up straight. She almost fell off her bed. In a panic she looked at each of her roommates. All three were snickering behind their hands.

Jiang Juan was finally distracted from her own troubles and took this chance to mock Xiao Tu. “Dear Bunny, you are a child bride raised by his family, but try to be a little more low profile. If Teacher Xue finds out you’ll be chased and killed by her.

“Yeah, Teacher Xue hates early dating. You have to be careful.” He Tian advised with stiff face. She was now in the middle of reapplying her cucumber mask.

Although Xiao Tu has gotten used to their ridicule, she was still really embarrassed.

At this time, Jian Juan threw her luggage on the ground and declared boldly, “You can rest assured, if Teacher Xue dares to break you up, we will send our fierce sister, Old Nine, to bite her.”

“Yes, let my master bite her!” approved He Tian.

“What’s this you’re saying about me?” Ouyang Mei was confused. T____T

Xiao Tu took her time coming downstairs with her luggage. She was still feeling embarrassed from her roommates teasing and was reluctant to meet Ling Chao. He had been waiting a long time and stalked over to her impatiently when he saw her approaching. “What took you so long?!”

Xiao Tu just stomached her friends ridiculed because of Ling Chao. And now she had to endure his harsh words. This made her snap back at him, “Then go first! No one said to wait for me!”

Why is this little white rabbit so sensitive today? Mused Ling Chao. Suddenly he understood. “When your report card comes in the mail, don’t expect me to hide it for you.”

“You don’t have to worry about it,” Xiao Tu stated proudly. “I’m doing well in school now.”

“Are you actually going to pass math this time?”

“You!” Xiao Tu was so frustrated with him “Stop underestimating me! Yin Zihan showed me how to work many of the problems on this math exam. Because of him I definitely passed.” She said with her chin in the air.

"Yin Zihan?" Glared Ling Chao.

"Yeah! He's the #1 student in my year! Hey, don't leave ..."

Yin Zihan? Perhaps this name should be remembered. It seemed like a dark cloud had passed overhead.

The report cards were delivered over winter break. Xiao Tu really did pass math. And not just math, she did well in her other classes too. Her overall ranking moved up ten places, it went from 41 to 31.

Her mother was so excited she couldn’t help exclaiming over the results again and again. “Look, I was right to let our daughter attend A School.” She gloated to her husband.

Xiao Tu’s father was reading the financial section in the newspaper. Looking at the stock markets he said casually, “It’s only the beginning. The future is uncertain.”

“Can’t you be more positive? Maybe when they divide the class for streaming our daughter’s rank will jump to 21!”

“Do you think our daughter is stock and every semester her value will improve?”

Her mother: "..."

Later in the evening Xiao Tu was doing winter homework at her desk. Her mother shouted at her from the hall, “Bunny, the phone!” Then she came into Xiao Tu’s room holding the phone. She passed the receiver over suspiciously, “It’s a boy…”

Stunned, Xiao Tu spoke into the phone, “Hello?”

“Hey” it was Yin Zihan’s voice on the other end.

“Yin Zihan?” Xiao Tu wasn’t expecting to hear from him. Why did he call her? “Is there … anything?” she asked.

“Nothing…” the voice on the other end was a little bit awkward. “I just wanted to ask about your report card. Did you receive your marks? How did you do on the final exam?

Xiao Tu answered enthusiastically. “My rank improved 10 places!”

“Really! Congratulations.” Yin Zihan laughed on his end of the phone. The atmosphere wasn’t so uncomfortable anymore.

“Thank you very much for helping me. I will treat you to ice cream when school starts.”

Yin Zihan didn’t accept right away. It was quiet for a moment while he thought of a better idea, “I’ll be back home tomorrow. Why don’t you treat me tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow? Okay…” before she could finish her sentence the phone was suddenly snatched from her hands.

“She won’t be free tomorrow.” Replied Ling Chao with a cold voice before he abruptly hung up.

Xiao Tu stared at Ling Chao dully. He was standing outside her window. How did he get there?

“What are you doing outside my window?”

“I came for my CD player”

“Didn’t I say I would give it back in a few days?”

“I want it now.” Ling Chao replied to the air next to her face.

Ugh… so stingy! She rolled her eyes. Wordlessly, she went to her bedside, grabed the CD player and handed it back to Ling Chao.

He took it and then walked away leaving Xiao Tu shaking her head dumbfounded.

“Hey! Why did you grab my phone just now? I’ll be free tomorrow.” She shouted at Ling Chao’s retreating back.

However, Yin Zihan never called her again that winer.
