Daniel went back home after making sure that Alexa was situated. He was leaving Logan, Lucas, and Ria to take care of her. Once he was back at the White House, he requested from his father to give him a post at the American Embassy at the Spaniard Kingdom to be near Alexa and be able to keep an eye of her the whole time.
President Grant thought it's a good idea and arranged for Daniel to become one of the consulates at the American Embassy. It would also help in his career as a politician when the time comes to run for office. However, when First Lady Dianne learned about it, she became hysterical and inconsolable.
