“There’s light ahead! We’ve reached the end. We’ve finally found the exit!” Tu Wenjin dashed forward agitatedly.

Whoosh—

The sound of something coursing through the air. A dark shadow whizzed in!

Ning Tao shoved Tu Wenjin away with his palms. A rock hit his chest like a missile. Under the protection of the air sac of spiritual power, his body flew away to a distance of a few dozen meters, before crashing down.

His flashlight had been shattered by the blow. The tunnel instantly lapsed into darkness.

Tang Zixian suddenly prone herself to the ground.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

The noise of whizzing rocks caused the stone wall to shudder.

“Doctor Ning?” Tu Wenjin called out.

Ning Tao did not respond. He was lying on the ground, motionless. Other than some minor pain, he felt nothing at all. But he was wondering how Tang Zixian would react if she had thought him dead.

“Doctor Ning?” Tu Wenjin was terrified, his voice quavering. “Don’t… don’t die. If you die, we must all die with you… I shouldn’t have come to this damn place!”

Strangely, Tang Zixian continued to prone on the ground, saying nothing. She still maintained that same silence, as if it was not her problem at all even if the heavens collapsed.

Ning Tao quietly summoned the state of looking to his eyes. It was all darkness in the tunnel, yet in his eyes, Tang Zixian and Tu Wenjin were like two gleaming lanterns. He not only could discern them clearly, he could also see another large, hairy head poking in at the cave entrance.

It was a Shennongjia primitive. He did not dare enter. Those armed men from the Black Fire Company had terrified them so much in the massacre. He and his companion were obviously afraid of them three, thinking they had some powerful weapons and ammunition.

Ning Tao did indeed have a gun. It was the powerful refined Mauser pistol. He had kept it with him all this time without using it.

“Growl!” The Shennongjia primitive spying at the entrance emitted a noise.

“Growl… Woolu…” The voice of another Shennongjia primitive came from outside the tunnel.

They seemed to be conversing.

Ning Tao did not feel nervous at all. But Tang Zixian lying prone on the ground could hold out no longer. She crawled towards Ning Tao.

Ning Tao thought quietly to himself, “What is she trying to do? Is she coming here to see if I am dead?” When he thought of this, he immediately held his breath. He even controlled his heartbeats so that they were almost undetectable. It was a little trick he could play with his spiritual power. It was no problem for a doctor to play possum.

Tang Zixian soon crawled to Ning Tao’s side. She moved her left hand to above Ning Tao’s face but did not touch him. On her wrist was a multifunctional sports watch. She lightly pressed a button on its side and it instantly emitted a blue fluorescent light.

Although the light was faint, even a little light would seem bright in this darkness. Under the bluish light, Ning Tao’s face before her was clearly discernible. There was blood all over his face and body. His chest had stopped heaving. He seemed to be dead.

Tang Zixian stretched out her hand and touched Ning Tao’s carotid artery. She seemed to have ascertained his death. Then she snorted coldly. “Humph! And I thought you were such a powerful person. So you could only do so much. And you’re unlucky too!”

Ning Tao’s bulging eyes were opened, staring at her, as if dissatisfied with death. The armed men had not killed him but a rock from a Shennongjia primitive seemed to have. His luck seemed to be really down.

“Are you really the one who have killed my ancestor? I don’t believe it,” Tang Zixian added.

Ning Tao suddenly remembered someone— Tang Tianren. Although Tang Zixian did not say who her “ancestor” was, his instincts told him that it was Tang Tianren.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

More rocks flew in from the cave entrance, hitting the stone wall with dull thuds. A person might be stoned to death if he was careless.

Tang Zixian lay on her side beside Ning Tao. Her hand stretched into her pants.

Ning Tao felt curious and wondered to himself, “What’s inside her pants? A magic tool?”

Tang Zixian pulled out a piece of paper from her pants. Its shape reminded Ning Tao of a woman’s tampon. But further observation stunned him. That piece of paper was no ordinary paper, but spiritual paper mashed and made from spiritual materials. And there were runes written on it— it was obviously a paper talisman!

To Ning Tao’s knowledge, a paper talisman was an important tool of practitioners and demons. Some were useful for attacks and others useful for defense. Still others could seal a formation. Yet he had never seen a paper talisman which could be used as a tampon!

There was some strange odor emitting from the paper talisman. It smelt somewhat stimulating and could cause a man to get excited.

Watching the paper talisman in Tang Zixian’s hand, smelling its strange and mysterious odor, Ning Tao suddenly felt his cultivation perspective to have upended. His heart was all at sea.

At this moment, Tang Zixian suddenly muttered some incantation. “Pa mi do hum. Soul Talisman of Yin Valley, go!”

After reciting the incantation, Tang Zixian threw the paper talisman into the air. The talisman floated before her and instantly caught fire with a loud boom. It was burning with a green flame. At the same time, another green fume escaped from Tang Zixian’s body and streamed into the fire.

Crack…

From Tang Zixian’s body came the sound of tendons and joints cracking. Her face and body were undergoing an incredible transformation!

Before this, she was only somewhat tall and pretty. But in the blinking of an eye, her legs had become longer and her waist more slender. Her bosom had filled out and even her face was now prettier. After the change, she could rival such ravishing beauties as Qing Zhui and Bai Jing. Her deportment had turned noble and exalted, and she seemed more perspicacious.

This was the real Tang Zixian. Perhaps even her name was a pseudonym.

But to Ning Tao, her greatest change was not her improved looks but the fact her innate aura had turned into a practitioner’s. Her spiritual energy was so rich and powerful!

Soon, the paper talisman had completely burned up, leaving not even a trace of ash. It was a sealing talisman which had sealed in all of Tang Zixian’s practitioner powers. No wonder she could remain calm and fearless in face of those raining bullets! In her eyes, those armed men from the Black Fire Company were all trash! She would not pay attention even to the Shennongjia primitives. She was only putting on an act before Ning Tao!

Ning Tao was also acting for her now.

Tang Zixian’s gaze once again fell on Ning Tao’s body. With this glance after recovering her practitioner’s identity, her expression suddenly changed. She suddenly struck a palm downward at the top of Ning Tao’s head.

Ning Tao’s pretense could bluff Tang Zixian with her powers sealed. But he could not trick Tang Zixian when her practitioner powers had been unleashed.

Ning Tao was long prepared. He raised his left hand and his Blade of the Solar Eclipse moved to Tang Zixian’s wrist.

Tang Zixian retracted her hand and her other hand suddenly moved out. She hit out a fist at Ning Tao’s hip.

At that very instant, Ning Tao’s right leg also kicked out at Tang Zixian’s lower abdomen.

Dull thuds resounded and both Tang Zixian and Ning Tao’s bodies slid away under the impact of the other’s spiritual power. Tang Zixian only slid away a body length, while Ning Tao slid several meters away.

Tang Zixian’s cultivation was obviously superior. Ning Tao could not have surpassed her cultivation, since he had only been a practitioner for a few months. Compared with those real practitioners who had cultivated for a century or even centuries, the time he had spent on cultivation was negligible.

But Ning Tao was no ordinary practitioner. He was a born go-between of good and evil. He did not require any spiritual energy to cultivate and could resolve the issue of spiritual energy with a mere good-evil tripod. And he had mastered the art of Powerful Tolerance to Beating and had the air sac of spiritual power to protect himself. Such attacks would count for nothing.

Tang Zixian leaped up from the ground and cried furiously, “You’re only pretending to be dead! I have never seen such a treacherous and shameless practitioner!”

Ning Tao also crawled up from the ground and scoffed, “I, treacherous and shameless? Aren’t you shamming too? I did this openly and you were hiding something in your crotch. What right do you have to rebuke me?”

His words proved a strong provocation to Tang Zixian. She vigorously waved her hand and a cold gleam instantly soared out towards Ning Tao.

The poison needles of Tang Sect!

Ning Tao reached out his left hand and grabbed the Unbreakable Fan on his waist. The fan opened with a whoosh. He waved it and the whizzing poison needles instantly changed direction.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Sparks flew on the stone wall by Ning Tao’s side.

Was she really from the Tang Sect? These poison needles were the answer.

“Are you here to avenge Tang Tianren? Who is Tang Tianfeng to you?” Ning Tao’s voice turned cold. As he spoke, he slid his Blade of the Solar Eclipse into the canvas sheath on the outside of his thigh. Then he drew his refined Mauser pistol out from the back waist holster.

Since she was an enemy, there would be no need for courtesy. He did not need to be merciful too.

But before Ning Tao could raise his pistol muzzle at Tang Zixian, a black shadow whizzed in. It instantly reached his face!

Ning Tao hit it away with his fan and that item flew out. One sweeping move and his scalp tingled—it was a hand grenade!

Tang Zixian had launched herself on her tiptoes and streaked out to the tunnel exit. At the same time, she stretched out her arms and grabbed Tu Wenjin by his belt, lifting him up and pulling him along like a pillow.

In that second, Ning Tao had wanted to go after them. But the hand grenade was just before him. The idea flashed across his mind and he threw himself backwards violently.

Boom!

A violent explosion. Sparks flew, the fragments of rocks scattered like bullet shells.

Before the shock waves of the blast had dissipated, Ning Tao had leaped up from the ground. He took a few steps and darted out like an arrow from the tunnel.

It was all dark outside the cave. And yet there were many “lanterns” in Ning Tao’s eyes. The one dozen Shennongjia primitives had been scared away by the detonation and were racing towards Feminine-moon City. And there were two other smaller “lanterns” who were moving rapidly to the tunnel’s left. They were obviously Tang Zixian and Tu Wenjin. To the tunnel’s right, there were six other smaller “lanterns”. They were armed men from the Black Fire Company, who had clambered down the chasm.

These six armed men from the Black Fire Company were originally heading for the Feminine-moon City. The explosion had caught their attention and with tactical flashlights shining their way, they were moving swiftly here.

A bright beam from a flashlight shone on Ning Tao, who had just dashed out of the tunnel.

A cold smile started to hover on Ning Tao’s lips.

Before this, he was wary of the hostages’ safety and had been restrained.

Now, he wasn’t shackled at all!
