Overlord (LN)

The story begins with the last day of Yggdrasil, a popular online game which is being quietly shut down. Our protagonist, Momonga, decides to stay in his beloved game until the last moment – so he waits for the forced logout.

Unexpectedly, the server does not shut down and Momonga is stuck in a skeleton avatar in another world. “The powerful Overlord” needs now to discover the new world and face the continuous challenges that arise.

Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary man decides to take over the new world the game has become.

So is this the web novel or light novel??

Wow, y’all are in full weeb trigger mode. Can the light novel not be an advancement of the web series (weird how a funded, published version would have more content than a for-fun free story, right?), instead of automatically garnering malice simply for being profitable? It’s the story equivalent of hipsters doing the classic “they were better when they weren’t famous, bro. Those were the real times, I was there.”. Try not to hate for the simple reason of trying to be superior in your own tiny little world.

Is it me or I can’t see there’s any chapters posted? Have they removed it? I’m very lost when I read the WN and watch the anime.

i have heard that the added stuff in the light novel was so that those that read the web novel wouldnt know everything that happens and could still read as if it was a new work

Yes, the LN adds stuff that wasn’t in the original web novel, but to say the LN company forced the matter is unfair and actually implies you don’t think Maruyama has the strength to say “This would change my vision for the story.”\ The LN Editors can, at best, veto a decision Maruyama makes, suggest he holds off on a decision until a later time, suggest he focuses on characters X, Y, and/or Z for a bit, or suggest additions to the story based on where they think he’s going to take it. It is on HIM to listen to his editors or to say, “No, because of A, B, and C reasons.” The only things an editor can force is the removal of content that goes against the company’s ideals and image, correction of spelling and grammar mistakes, and the like. The most you can claim to be true is that the editors may have said “We think for the Light Novel you should add some cute girls for marketability reasons,” and Maruyama was like “I can do that, bruh. No worries.” Anything more and you’re pushing pure conjecture without any basis. What Agni28 said is true in that respect: The web novel is just an earlier draft of what the Light Novel was to be. How much of the LN additions were Maruyama and how much were suggestions made by the editors? We may never know. Because of that, you have absolutely no reason to hate that work on the basis that it wasn’t what Maruyama intended, because you don’t know that or have any reason to believe that beyond conjecture.

Mjuc, That definition came about much later, and was loosely influenced by the original definition I previously stated. You are right. I haven’t, and will probably never read the horribly butchered unentertaining LN version. I do, however, firmly believe that the stone story AND her even having sisters is more editor-forced BS added in post script against the authors original intentions. Try to convince me otherwise.

Albedo means the proportion of incident light that is reflected by a surface, typically that if a planet or a moon. If you read the light novels you would know that the name was chosen due to it being the second stage of making a philosophers stone while albedos older and younger sister nigredo and rubedo are the first and fourth stage.

Sorry to say this, but that is a false statement. The WN verison is the real one. The LN was a version with ridiculous additions the editing company forced the author to add to get published. Want proof? Take the meaning of the word “albedo”. It is the useless part of a citrus fruit between the rind and the flesh that is annoying. There are more subtle hints in the LN version containing all the added stuff that show displeasure at their existence if you just take the time to look instead of spending all your time fapping to the fanservice it adds.

Why is the light novel of Overlord not available? It is the main story, the web novel is just a draft. Please add the LN version. Thank you.
