Slash!

"This is getting boring," Lu Wan frowned. "Are they even assassins?"

"They must be taking the easy mission," Qi Huan shrugged. Many of the assassins only came here because of the prize.

Speaking of the prize, he forgot what kind of reward they would get from this competition. They forgot to ask that from their master.

Sizzle~

"Huh?" Ye Jiao's eyes widened as the forest started to dissolve. It turned into nothingness as she found herself in the arena once again. There was a stack of people on the edge, seemingly thrown out without caring for their wellbeing. Only a limited number of people were left in the vast arena.

Qi Huan returned his sword back to his storage bracelet. "The first part of the competition is over. It seems, we manage to pass."

"That's good," Lu Wan yawned. "Any longer and I'll die out of boredom."

"It seems we're lucky to not encounter some people," Qi Huan looked to the side. There were several people who stood together, showing the fact that they were teammates. Based on his observation, they didn't look like ordinary Eon Energy Master Rank 3.

Ye Jiao nodded. "Indeed."

At this point, Mr. Jing was looking toward the competition with curiosity. He didn't have complete control of the array because he himself was not an array master. It was a tool that he borrowed to perform his competition, so he could only see the result after it was over.

His eyes flashed when he noticed the three disciples from Zhan Jing. They were standing calmly without any hint of weariness.

'Remarkable. As one would expect from the great Zhan Jing. He must have picked the cream off the top in this time period.'

"The first part of the competition is now officially over. Those who still stay in the middle of the arena can participate in the next part. It'll begin in the afternoon. You may take some rest."

Cheers filled the arena as the participants were tired. Fighting for a full three hours was not easy, especially considering their opponents were those at the same power or might even be more powerful.

Zhan Jing watched Mr. Jing's expression carefully. He noticed the glint as he felt his heart tightened. After the failure of his mission, his position in the organization was extremely low. If it was possible, he didn't want to create more trouble.

But it seemed that it would be impossible.

"I'll be going first," Zhan Jing said swiftly and jumped into the arena before Mr. Jing could give him an answer.

"He's quick," one Eon Energy Master Rank 4, who was also the first master of this Bao Fu Organization branch commented.

Mr. Jing nodded. "He hadn't lost his touch."

"Will you really give us privilege if we give up our disciples to the main headquarters?" the second master asked back. His expression was solemn as he looked straight to Mr. Jing.

"Is that so?"

"Yes."

"You better not lie," the second master turned around. "I always hate people who spout lies."

Mr. Jing just smiled without replying anymore. His eyes were locked to Zhan Jing, who had brought the three children away from the location. Somehow, he anticipated the performances of these children.

'It'll be interesting.'

Zhan Jing brought the three of them to a separate room. He quickly inspected them to find out whether they were wounded or not. Thankfully, there was no apparent wound in their body, so he could feel relief.

"You have already shown yourself. Now, you should leave this place."

"Master?"

"Why?" Lu Wan raised his voice. He looked at their master stubbornly. "I'm not going to leave you, Master. The competition is not over!"

"Do you really want to win?" Zhan Jing asked in a stern voice. He shook his head. "There's nothing good with winning this competition. And if you lose, you will lose much more than just face."

"What are you talking about, Master?"

Zhan Jing sighed when he saw their clueless face. He pulled a chair and sat down. His expression showed his tiredness.

"This competition is designed to bring the most talented youngsters to Bao Fu Organization Main Headquarter. It's the place where the cream of the top and also the most ruthless fighter gathered. Every youngster will be trained harshly to meet their requirements. Afterwards, they'll be assigned a dangerous mission and only allowed to return back if they succeed.

If they run away in the middle of the mission, they'll know because all of them have been forced to give their Oath of Loyalty to the organization."

Qi Huan frowned. He knew that the competition was not that simple, but this was the first time he heard something like this. He didn't expect that the organization also recruited people from the remote locations.

"Why are they taking more people?" Ye Jiao asked.

"The headquarter is located in the middle of a large kingdom. Most people in that kingdom already have affiliation to some organization, clan, academy, or even sect. it's hard to find one that will serve Bao Fu Organization full heartedly, so they always search for one from remote locations.

Four Kingdoms is just one of the numerous locations they visit. They'll take every talented young person to aid them and train them to become masters. Not a single one of them would be able to get away with the oath binding them."

Lu Wan's face contorted in disgust. "So they're doing the same thing as Chen Kingdom. How disgusting."

"Not really," Zhan Jing tapped the table beside him. "Most of them swore the allegiance willingly."

"Why?"

"That doesn't make sense!"

Zhan Jing watched their expression show disbelief as he smiled bitterly. If they knew what kind of place it was, they would surely be unwilling to swear their loyalty, but if they didn't know…. It would be a completely different story.

He looked over to Qi Huan. "I'm sure you understand why, Shan Dian."

"Yes," Qi Huan nodded and replied unhurriedly. Despite the urging of his junior brother and sisters, he didn't explain quickly.

"People who're willing to become the masters' disciples are mostly people who no longer have anything they care about. They might only have something they care for and thus, needed strength to protect the one whom they care or to take revenge. Because of their no attachment, it's easy for them to be manipulated by their master."

Qi Huan looked straight to Zhan Jing. "If their master asks them to swear their loyalty, it's completely possible as long as they feel debt for their master. Isn't that why you approach us when we're all at the lowest point in our lives, Master?"

Zhan Jing nodded, admitting what Qi Huan said readily. He approached every single one of them when they were at their lowest point. Having just experienced betrayal, lost, and in the condition where there was no hope. It was at that point that he stretched out his hand, offering his help.

That way, the disciples would be full of gratitude to him. If he wanted to, he could even ask them to swear their loyalty, and they wouldn't refuse.

"Wait, doesn't that mean that he already knows our condition even before meeting us?" Lu Wan raised his hand.

Zhan Jing nodded. "Both of you are famous, Shan Dian, Yu Shui. There's no way that I won't know your family background and situation. Back then, I only approached you two because I want to make use of your talent to grant me freedom from this place as per Bao Fu Organization's rules."

"But you didn't do it," Ye Jiao added. "You want us to go and no longer participate in the competition. Isn't that because you no longer see us as tools but as person-no, not just person, but your disciple, Master?"

Your disciple.

That phrase made Zhan Jing recall the talk he had with Qin Zheng. That young man told him if he just wanted to use them, it would be better if he gave them to Qin Zheng.

Because these children are worth so much more.

The moment he realized that Qi Huan was eligible for the inheritance already told him the truth. If these children fell into the hands of the Bao Fu Organization, there was no doubt that they would be a great asset. Their ability and potential might bring them to a greater height far surpassing other geniuses.

Zhan Jing seemed to realize that when he saw them. Their progress and rate of growth was exceptionally remarkable.

More importantly, they have a clear view of their path.

"Yes."

Lu Wan crossed his arm. "That settles it. We're staying here."

"No!" Zhan Jing rejected their notion strongly. "If you stay here, there's no doubt that Mr. Jing is going to take you into the main headquarters. At that time, you won't be able to get your freedom anymore."

Once you get in, you won't be able to get out.

That was the place called Bao Fu Organization, the largest assassins' organization even in the mainland.
