The next morning Lu AnLing was awoken by a flurry of buzzes. It was her phone but she didn't check it right away. Instead, she reached over to her side to touch the cold bed.

Lu AnLing frowned.

Neither Kang Jun nor Kang Mingyu we're there. Crawling out of bed she looked at the time on her phone, ignoring the messages, at first glance.

It was 10 am. Kang Jun must have left for work and as for Kang Mingyu, Lu AnLing wasn't sure why he wasn't there so she crawled out of bed, put on a light hoodie over her pyjamas and then went to go find him.

Once downstairs, Lu AnLing was shocked to see Kang Jun sipping on his coffee in the dinning room with Kang Mingyu eating pancakes at his side.

Smelling the sweet and savoury smell of pancakes and sausages, Lu AnLing felt her stomach gurgle.

"Young mistress, come come, sit down. Breakfast is getting cold." Rong Lihua called to Lu AnLing.

Hearing the words 'young mistress' both Kang Jun and Kang Mingyu turned to Lu AnLing.

"Good morning," the boys said in unison.

Lu AnLing walked up to them and kissed the both of them on the cheek, starting with Kang Mingyu. When she got to kissing Kang Jun he purposefully turned his head so she would kiss him on the lips. Feeling the familiar sensation, Lu AnLing quickly retracted her face and blushed.

Kang Mingyu who had been staring at them the whole time frowned at Kang Jun while Rong Lihua couldn't help but smile and compliment Kang Jun, in her head.

Taking her seat beside Kang Jun, Lu AnLing began to eat.

"You're not going to work today?" Lu AnLing asked.

Kang Jun: "I'll be leaving around 12. There's nothing urgent to work on in the morning, so I thought it was best to spend more time with you."

Lu AnLing pursed her lips. "Really? Then why didn't you wake me up."

"You have a day off today. It's best to rest" Kang Jun said, and despite this being true, the real reason why was because when he had woken up, as he gazed at Lu AnLing's serene face, Kang Jun didn't have the heart to disturb her.

During their meal, as Lu AnLing ate and paid close attention to how cutely Kang Mingyu was eating his food, her phone buzzed many times but she didn't even check it once.

"Shouldn't you check that?" Kang Jun finally asked, after a while.

"Hmmm, later..." Lu AnLing answered.

Kang Jun raised an eyebrow.

"You sure you aren't getting any important messages? Your grandmother is still at the hospital right? Maybe you're getting news about her."

"Not likely. If something was wrong or if my mom needs me to visit she'd call not text..."

When Lu AnLing said that a slight pain flashed across her eyes. Kang Jun noticed it instantly, though he didn't confront her about it.

When it came to things Lu AnLing talked about, her family wasn't a topic she'd bring up much. The topic about her father was also one that the girl seemed to avoid all together and Kang Jun never pressed her about it.

Everyone had things they didn't want to talk about, this included Kang Jun. And the man knew well that just because she didn't bring it up to him, didn't mean that she was lying to him. In time, she would mention it. They were husband and wife after all, they had plenty of time to get to know each other better.

"Okay, well tell me when you'll visit your grandmother. I'll drive you." Seeing Lu AnLings face change slightly after he had said that, Kang Jun spoke again. "Don't worry. I won't come in. Whenever you're ready, let's invite your grandmother into our home and I'll properly introduce myself to her."

Lu AnLing accepted the mans plan with no complaints.

"Also, Mr. Long has narrowed down a few hospitals to do the paternity tests for Kang Mingyu. We'll be trying out a few places so we will need more than one sample from you. Is that fine?" Kang Juns felt like he was walking on eggshells for some reason but once he saw the dazzling light of hope fill Lu AnLings eyes Kang Jun's heart squeezed.

"I'll give as many samples as you need." Lu AnLings voice sounded slightly tired but who could blame the girl. The mere thought of her child filled her with hope but also anxiety. It wouldn't be the first time that a lead appeared in front of her eyes only to disappear.

As Kang Jun watched her intently, a part of him hoped that either Kang Mingyu or Kang Mei Xue was Lu AnLings child but at the same time he feared what conspiracy this revelation would bring.

With one mystery solved, many more would appear in front of his eyes. Not to mention the mystery of the father of Lu AnLing's child.

This was the only job Kang Jun didn't plan to allow Mr. Long to help with. For some reason, he just didn't feel right doing this, though, in the end, Kang Jun had decided long ago that whoever had slept with Lu AnLing that night, he didn't care. It wouldn't change the fact that Lu AnLing was now his wife or that he loved her more than anything.

Meanwhile, as Kang Jun and Lu AnLing looked into each others eyes. Other emotions and thoughts filling them, Kang Mingyu watched them with a frown.

Seeing as how Kang Jun was keeping Lu AnLing to himself, Kang Mingyu walked all the way to Lu AnLing's side and grabbed onto her leg.

Seeing the chubby boy at her feet, Lu AnLing smiled and then lifted him up to her lap.

Sitting there, Kang Mingyu leaned his head back onto Lu AnLings chest.

"What are you talking about?" Kang Mingyu asked curiously.

To this question, Lu AnLing froze.

So instead, it was Kang Jun who spoke,

"Kang Mingyu. It's rude to ask what adults are talking about."

Hearing this Kang Mingyu frowned.

"I wasn't asking you." Kang Mingyu said matter-of-factly.

Seeing the two boys with almost identical frowns face off, Lu AnLing couldn't help but giggle a bit.

The two looked like father and son...

As soon as that thought crossed her mind Lu AnLing's gears began to turn.

If Kang Mingyu was really her son, then could it be possible that he was actually Kang Jun's son also? Maybe the family kept it secret?

Lu AnLing's mind was beginning to venture into soap opera territory and she didn't like it. Though the thought of she and Kang Jun sharing a child made her heart warm.

Though as she watched the pair, Lu AnLing couldn't help but think that no matter who Kang Mingyu's birth parents were. It wouldn't change the fact that Kang Jun had raised Kang Mingyu and had been a father to Kang Mingyu since he was an infant.

Lu AnLing truly believed that in the little boys heart, no matter how he acted, he loved Kang Jun very much.

"Mingyu, your uncle's right." Lu AnLing said as she patted his head.

Hearing this Kang Mingyu frowned slightly but when he looked into Lu AnLing's eyes, Kang Mingyu melted and he became like an obedient puppy snuggling up to its owner.

The moment when Kang Jun was about to leave Lu AnLing received a phone call. She picked it up immediately.

"Hello mother," Lu AnLing said stiffly.

After meeting her mother again, Lu AnLing still didn't feel too comfortable speaking to the woman. It felt as if they were strangers after all but she was still Lu AnLings mother so the girl tried her best to connect with the woman.

Without exchanging any pleasantries, Mother Lu said, "Your cousins Xingya and Jiayi both have business today, come and visit your grandmother. She's been asking for you."

"Yes mother," Lu AnLing answered robotically. With a small conversation her mannerism returned to the way they were when she had lived in the Lu Household. It pained her.

Lu AnLing: "Is anyone else going to be there? Should I bring afternoon tea?"

"There is no need. Most of the relatives visit at night. It should be just you and your grandmother."

Lu AnLing crossed her free arm over her chest and squeezed herself hard. "You won't be there?"

"No."

Hearing how her mother refused to explain herself. Lu AnLing felt something tug at her heart and her mind assumed one thing.

'She doesn't like me. She's avoiding me and pretending that I don't exist...' she hated this feeling.

But Lu AnLing didn't voice it. She just bit her tongue before saying, "Okay, have a good day."

"You too." Her mother replied before she hung up

After hearing the familiar sound of someone hanging up on her, Lu AnLing's hands dropped to her side as she sighed.

Her heart still felt suffocated and her whole body was numb but one sentence spoken by Kang Jun brought her back to life.

"I'll drop you off."

Lu AnLing turned to look at Kang Jun in the eyes.
