"I can't..." Kang Nianxi said simply. Qiao Lan was like a sister to him. He couldn't just extract information from her that could get her killed!
Kang Nianxi clutched the chair beneath him and braced himself to experienced Kang Jun's anger but in the end, all Kang Nianxi was left with was a sigh.
"Qiao Lan warned me that my wife was going to get attacked. Usually, I would have this all figured out and just keep AnLing by my side..." Kang Jun said camly, but then a darkness rose up from the pits of his devilish eyes. "... but you see, my wife is also pregnant. I don't want to risk causing her any stress."
With those words entering his mind, Kang Nianxi felt his whole body stiffen. The word 'pregnant' echoing in his ears.
For some reason, whenever Qiao Lan would say she would do something bad to another or when Kang Nianxi would hear rumours about what Qiao Lan had done to others, he would never believe them. Qiao Lan always treated him well and he knew the part of Qiao Lan that had only ever been revealed in the presence of Kang Zhi.
Qiao Lan loved Kang Zhi, despite never being loved back, and this was why Kang Nianxi did not find her attitude towards Kang Jun strange. Everyone already assumed that Kang Jun had killed him after all!
Even when Wang Tingting had told Kang Nianxi that Qiao Lan could be horrible, he believed his wife, but internally he had forgiven the woman for her sins because a part of him believed the woman to be pitiful.
But now... could Kang Nianxi stand back and let Qiao Lan hurt an innocent? His nephew or niece, at that?
Kang Jun could easily see that he had gotten Kang Nianxi. Kang Jun knew how to manipulate Kang Nianxi.
"If you help me save my wife's life, you won't owe me a thing." Kang Jun said solemnly.
Hearing this at first, Kang Nianxi froze but then he nodded. This was exactly what he wanted. He hated owing anyone anything and so, this was a perfect opportunity for such. And either way, Kang Nianxi knew that his brother wouldn't ask him for help unless it was absolutely necessary.
Thinking for a bit about how he would approach this, Kang Nianxi went quite. He was absorbed in thought but suddenly, he heard Kang Jun speak once more.
"Either way, Soon, it'll only be you and Liu Ran to take care of the company, and then, both of you will go up against the other and decide who is truly fit to lead." Kang Jun's voice was low and ominous as if predicting a death.
Hearing the man's voice, Kang Nianxi's ears peeked and memories of Kang Zhi before his death flooded his head. "What do you mean?"
"I'm leaving the company." Kang Jun said simply as he leaned back into his chair.
Usually, Kang Nianxi would jump for joy at such words but instead, the man instantly paled. "Why?"
"It's time." Kang Jun said simply.
Kang Jun had already gotten many things in order for his and Lu AnLing's departure but the company business was by far the hardest to settle. He had to disconnect from them all, forever. He had to be willing to not give them any help after the Infinity Project was over and done with. This would be hard.
Kang Jun, whether he liked to admit it or not, was a kind of knight in shining armour. He always came in and saved their company when they were on the verge of faltering. It was something everyone was accustomed to, and this was by far Kang Jun's greatest mistake. Especially considering the fact that even Kang Nianxi had noticed this.
"Brother..." Kang Nianxi said, even shocking himself, "Please think about this. This is a sensitive time for Kang Corporation... We... We need you."
As he spoke, Kang Nianxi had swallowed every single bit of his pride. So much so that he began to become green.
The man then peered at his brother to see if there was a small bit of emotion in which he had arisen in him.
There was none.
In fact, Kang Jun noticed his strange disposition, but he allowed Kang Nianxi to be free to speak.
Kang Nianxi: "I won't talk to Qiao Lan... not unless you say you'll stay."
As soon as he had said this, Kang Nianxi wanted to slap his hand on his mouth but the words had already escaped and so he was trapped.
He didn't know how bad he had messed up until Kang Jun's aura became clouded and dark and began to consume every inch of the room. Even wrapping around Kang Nianxi's neck like a noose.
Kang Jun frowned. "Do as you wish but if something happens to my wife, I'll hold you just as responsible as the perpetrators."
Kang Jun didn't hold back the animosity that he showed not only in his aura but in the way he accentuated his words.
Hearing this, Kang Nianxi's body stiffened even more but he felt his heart lighten a bit.

He had become kinder and his temper was more controlled. If Kang Jun was the same as he was before, he would have threatened not only Kang Nianxi's life but Wang Tingting's. Kang Jun wouldn't have cared if she was pregnant or not. But this time he didn't. He didn't even mention it.
Did he know that Wang Tingting was pregnant? Considering the fact that Wang Tingting had told Kang Nianxi that Lu AnLing knew and knowing how close he and his wife were; probably. But he didn't bring it up. Not even once.
Kang Nianxi swallowed stiffly as he continued to look at the floor.

"Thank you." The man said softly.

He had to be willing to not give them any help after the Infinity Project was over and done with. This would be hard.
Kang Jun, whether he liked to admit it or not, was a kind of knight in shining armour. He always came in and saved their company when they were on the verge of faltering. It was something everyone was accustomed to, and this was by far Kang Jun's greatest mistake. Especially considering the fact that even Kang Nianxi had noticed this.
