At Mo Ruyi and Kang Mu's home, Qiao Lan and Mo Ruyi stood opposite of one another.
Qiao Lan still had her head down as the words she had spoken echoed in Mo Ruyi's ears.
Qiao Lan wanted Mo Ruyi to hear her out? Mo Ruyi was shocked. Qiao Lan had never truly asked anything of her. The two were not even close, to begin with, so why would Qiao Lan want such a thing from Mo Ruyi? If she wanted some kind of sympathy, she should have gone to look for Kang Mu, Kang Nianxi, Elder Kang, her mother or her grandfather ... they would cater to her but Mo Ruyi would not.
This small realization caused Mo Ruyi to have an epiphany.
Qiao Lan had something important to say!
Mo Ruyi, thinking this, walked over to Qiao Lan and put her hand on the girl's back. The woman made sure to be gentle, and then, she said,
"I will listen to your story. But not here, let's go to the garden." Mo Ruyi said softly.
Qiao Lan and Mo Ruyi then headed out without another word.
Once outside, Mo Ruyi led Qiao Lan around until they were in an area that no one would interrupt them. A place between two hedges, which hid their presence from those in and around the house. It was like a world of its own filled with greenery and flowers of many kinds.
Looking at them, Qiao Lan was in awe but their peaceful beauty and serenity were so piecing that Qiao Lan felt a bit bitter.
Her life was falling apart and yet these flowers bloomed so unapologetically.
It disgusted her but at the same time, she knew that nature did not need to hold itself back because Qiao Lan's life was a mess and no one else did either...
Since learning about what her grandfather had done, Qiao Lan had been doing some thinking about what she had done and how she had been in the past. She had truly been insufferable. She had hurt many people. And because of what? A superiority and pride that she had for being a Qiao? That was all dead and gone now. Her grandfather was a murderer and a liar, and who knew what else he had done.
As Qiao Lan and Mo Ruyi walked a bit further down the path, Mo Ruyi watched Qiao Lan out of the corner of her eye and saw how the woman's face darkened.
Suddenly, Mo Ruyi stopped.
"That's far enough." The woman said calmly. After saying this, Mo Ruyi moved her body to face Qiao Lan and then she said, "What is it you'd like to speak about?"
Hearing this, Qiao Lan hesitated. She wasn't sure where to begin or how to phrase her sentence.
Seeing her hesitate, Mo Ruyi began to worry. It wasn't like Qiao Lan to be so reserved. The girl usually kept up a white lotus act but she was always outspoken and slightly calculating.
"Will you promise me that whatever I tell you, you will not tell anyone else..." Qiao Lan said softly worries darting from not only her voice but her every slight action.
Mo Ruyi was quite a mother to everyone. She was strict and cold but still helpful and kind in her own way. She had never mistreated Qiao Lan in the slightest and if Qiao Lan had ever opened up to Mo Ruyi, the woman would have treated her like her own daughter. However, since Mo Ruyi was not that close to Qiao Lan, she didn't feel quite the same responsibility she would feel for the sons she had raised and so, Mo Ruyi sighed.
"It depends on the information. But no matter what you tell me, I promise that no one will know that it has come from a conversation between the both of us. " Mo Ruyi said simply.
Hearing this, Qiao Lan felt slightly better. She the bit her lip.
"I overheard that someone is trying to hurt Kang Jun's wife..." Qiao Lan said, trying to fully distance herself from the culprits.
Despite Qiao Lan's efforts, Mo Ruyi could simply see that Qiao Lan was holding something back but she, unlike Kang Jun in one way, even if she felt anger, would never allow her emotions to make her decision. At least not at the moment. She would logically chose the right path displayed in front of her.
"Who?" Mo Ruyi said nonchalantly, holding her emotions back.
Hearing this, Qiao Lan gulped. She wasn't sure if she wanted to divulge Rong Yue Wan and Feng Zhengyi's identities. Qiao Lan knew as well as anyone that many people would lump her in with them, but right now, she didn't have much of a choice. The woman was stuck between a rock and a hard place. No matter what she did, she and her family might be in danger... Qiao Lan struggles to speak.
Silence surrounded Mo Ruyi and Qiao Lan and it almost threatened to go on forever but then, suddenly Qiao Lan's phone rang.
Qiao Lan felt her heart flip in her chest when she first heard her phone ring. But when she looked down to it and saw Kang Nianxi's name on the screen she gave a sigh of relief.
Noticing the name, Mo Ruyi found it a bit strange that Kang Nianxi was calling at such an early time of day, and so, she stopped herself from frowning and said, "You can answer him, it's alright."
Qiao Lan was shocked by this response. She hadn't planned on answering Kang Nianxi's call. It was nowhere near as important as the conversation with Mo Ruyi or at least that is what Qiao Lan thought but as soon as she picked up the phone, Qiao Lan heard something which tore her sanity.
"Lan... tell me the truth... are you still going after my brother's wife? Are you trying to hurt her?" Kang Nianxi said with a slightly strained voice. He didn't want to beat around the bush. Kang Nianxi believed that Qiao Lan was a good person deep inside, and so, he would give her the benefit of the doubt or at least a chance to explain herself.
However, hearing this, Qiao Lan's face paled.
"W-who told you that?" The woman almost shrieked.
Out of all the rumours to spread about her, Qiao Lan didn't want this one the most. For once, she was innocent! She wasn't trying to trick Kang Jun or hurt neither him or his wife anymore! Qiao Lan was tired and her mind was broken but hearing Kang Nianxi's words ignited a stress so pure that Qiao Lan almost burst into tears.
Kang Nianxi was not in front of the woman so he could not see her fear but he heard her emotion loud and clear.
The man wasn't sure what to say at first, but then he spoke.
"Rong Yue Wan...." Kang Nianxi said quickly.
Kang Nianxi had not meant to lie to Qiao Lan but the words had just slipped out.
Hearing this, Qiao Lan's face turned from pale to pitch black. For a moment, Qiao Lan bit her tongue almost causing it to bleed and then she screamed into the phone.
Qiao Lan: "That bitch!"
Hearing this, Mo Ruyi and Kang Nianxi we're both shocked. Qiao Lan had completely dropped her mask to reveal a vile characteristic of her personality and it showed in both the way her voice pierced and her face twisted.
Qiao Lan tightened her grip on her cellphone, as if ready to break it with her bare hands.
"Kang Nianxi, listen to me well. I am not after Kang Jun's wife. That stupid obsessive bitch Rong Yue Wan is planning some kind of car accident for that Lu AnLing girl, and they plan to blame it on grandfather and now, me?!" Qiao Lan was furious as she spat those words that she didn't realize she had revealed almost all her information.
