It had been two weeks since Kang Jun's confession. Two weeks! And Lu AnLing was beginning to get annoyed.

The day after Kang Jun had confessed to her, Lu AnLing had met him and Kang Mingyu at her door where he'd informed her that he would be going on a short business trip and that the boy would be staying at his grandfather's.

They didn't need to tell her this, but they did which made her happy but at the same time, deep in her heart, she felt sad that she wouldn't see them.

She understood why she missed Kang Mingyu. It was because a part of her had really bonded with the boy. He was like the child she'd never gotten the chance to love and so she gave him her all but what she felt for Kang Jun was not as easily decipherable.

Did she like him? Lu AnLing didn't want to think about it

She might have promised that she would give him a chance but the thought of her and Kang Jun together made her nervous.

The feeling caused her to become taken aback but that wasn't the end of it.

For the two weeks that came, Lu AnLing found herself anticipating Kang Jun's texts and his arrival but the man's short business trip turned into a long one and two weeks later he still wasn't back.

Since he'd left, he had texted her a grand total of 7 times, which caused anger to erupt inside her. But because she was angry that Kang Jun hadn't texted her she began to get angry at herself for having expectations when she didn't want to have a relationship with anyone.

Why was she feeling this way? Lu AnLing wasn't sure.

This strange mix of emotions made her understand herself less and less as the days went by. Causing the girl to be in a sour mood. Her only saving grace during that short but long period of time was her search for her child.

Ever since Kang Jun's ex-fiancée had appeared at his door, Lu AnLing couldn't get the woman out of her head.

Rong Yue Wan.

The name constantly repeated at the back of Lu AnLing's mind.

She had not seen the woman's face, so she couldn't confirm if it was the same person from her memories but it was the closest thing to a lead she'd had in years.

Lu AnLing had never given up looking for leads about who had adopted her child. Even when she'd encountered multiple dead ends she had still continued searching but at some point, her hope had become so low that she wasn't searching as hard as she had for the first few years. Deep inside it was like she'd already given up and then BAM! A lead. It was fairly unexpected for her that when she had stopped looking for leads, a lead would find her instead…

Lu AnLing remembered that back then she had visited the hospital many times but there was no way for her to get any information out of the staff because she had no specifics but now she did.

She finally had a name.

Rong Yue Wan…

But Lu AnLing knew she couldn't just ask right out.

The more she went to visit, the more she tried to question the staff about a nurse named Rong Yue Wan but most people had never heard of her.

It had been six years since then, so she wasn't shocked.

However, what did bother her was that when she asked the head nurse of the maternity ward, an old woman who appeared in her late 70's, to check in their archives to see if a woman named Rong Yue Wan had ever worked there, the woman's face became grim.

"I'm sorry but that isn't possible." The head nurse said.

Lu AnLing pouted.

"Why not?"

The old woman frowned, causing her feature to make her appear much older than she really was.

"6 years ago,... t-there was a horrible fire that destroyed half the hospital and we lost many files, patients and… staff… At that point, the hospital director resigned and handed everything to the police so that they could more easily find and identify those who were alive or… dead. If you wanted to know something about an ex-staff member who worked here prior to the fire then you'd have to go to the police. I'm so sorry."

Fire? She hadn't heard anything about that. She had been gone a long time but even when she was back no one mentioned anything and even stranger, the hospital had barely changed. She didn't understand at all.

Lu AnLing gave a deadpan smile, but her voice contained a lot of emotion. "Thank you."

The woman could see Lu AnLing's unhappiness but the woman, assuming that Lu AnLing was looking for a family member, didn't take it to heart.

Walking out of the hospital, Lu AnLing was now at a dead end again.

Well… kind of.

Unlike what the head nurse had been insinuating, Lu AnLing knew that Rong Yue Wan was not dead.

So answers were always possible to get.

In fact, she could always ask Kang Jun about her but she felt like there was no way to say what she wanted to say without blaming his then-fiancée for her child's disappearance…

Lu AnLing voiced her concerns by text to her friend from abroad and once he answered, the girl couldn't help but frown.

LoverBoyMS: [What if the guy had a hand in it?]

Lu AnLing: [I doubt it.]

LoverBoyMS: [Use your brain instead of your reproductive organs to think. The man was her fiancé, right? What man wouldn't want to protect his fiancé from trouble? Plus you said the dude was super rich and powerful right?]

Reading the first sentence of her friend's message caused Lu AnLing to frown. How dare he question her judgment due to sexual attraction! Yes, he had a point, she couldn't deny that but she refused to acknowledge such a soap opera-esque conclusion.

Kang Jun was kind to her, and a part of her could bet that if she asked for his help he would give it to her in a heart beat. He would take her goal as seriously as she did.

His words drifted through her memories and whispered into her ears. "… If that's the only reason, I could help you with it."

Thinking of the man's voice, Lu AnLing felt her heart tug. She hadn't seen or heard from him in a long time...

Thinking about it made her heart ache.

"The one I like is you." Kang Jun's words drifted into her ears once more.

Lu AnLing shivered.

Hearing the words repeat in her mind and remembering the distance between them at the moment, Lu AnLing knitted her eyebrows.

'Oh yeah, well what type of person confesses to someone, tells them to give them three months to court them and then doesn't contact them for a week?' Lu AnLing screamed with exasperation.

Lu AnLing tried to calm herself down. She didn't even understand why she was getting so worked up about it anyway. She'd been surviving fine without his presence for a lifetime and yet why did it matter so much to her now?!

She couldn't understand neither herself nor Kang Jun now, but as she thought it through, she guessed that the man was busy and that was why he wasn't contacting her.

And this wasn't wrong.

Since meeting Lu AnLing the day after his confession, many problems had begun occurring within Kang Corporations, which forced Kang Jun to extend his business trip in City L by a week and a couple of days.

That in itself pissed him off, but the worst part was that he hadn't had much time to do anything except work. Most days he had spent his time working and sleeping here a there, though usually, never for more than an hour.

It was as if no one else was doing any real work except for him and this made Kang Jun wonder why everyone in his entourage was becoming more and more incompetent. But finally, after so long, he was heading back home.

In the car, Kang Jun leaned his head against the window lazily.

From the driver's seat, Mr. Long looked at Kang Jun with slight worry in his eyes.

"Will you be fine for tonight boss? We can always delay your trip and you can try to meet Qiao Jianhong another day?"

Kang Jun looked at Mr. Long with a glare, but he didn't mean to. It was just because his head was beginning to pound. "No."

'I need to get this over with.'

Ever since he'd promised his grandfather he'd speak with Elder Qiao, despite knowing how busy Kang Jun was, his grandfather would badger him! So he really wanted to get the man off his back.

Though this wasn't the only reason. Kang Jun was also beginning to get worried about Kang Mingyu, who, every time Kang Jun called, sounded depressed. On the last phone call, he had had with the boy, he had told him that he was missing Lu AnLing's presence and Kang Jun couldn't deny that he did also.

"I promise we'll all be together soon." Kang Jun said.

Kang Mingyu had taken his answer in one way, but Kang Jun had meant it in another. He meant that they would all be united as a family someday soon. Three months... they had all allowed him three months.

The thought made Kang Jun frown and his heart sink. He wasn't sure if he could do it.

Taking out his phone, Kang Jun went to read over the last few messages he had sen her and frowned. He could text her, but at this point, he felt that texting was no good. And he could call her, but he didn't want to bother her.

His best option was to just go back home.

Seeing her in person would leave a bigger impact and he couldn't wait to see her face redden with embarrassment and shock when he appeared in front of her that night.

As they approached the airport, Kang Jun began to smile.

Seeing this, Mr. Long felt himself go blind and swerved. Feeling the sudden shock, Kang Jun glared at Mr. Long.

'Sir... please don't do this to me. You're so scary, yet so adorable! My heart can't take it.'
