Wait a minute, the King's knights? They came here directly to fetch her? Lyn frowned slightly, 'Something is wrong after all,' Lyn thought. At first, she thought it was a mere coincidence that things here were too quiet. After all, it is the middle of the night. But generally most castles operate twenty-four seven, there are those who work the night shift for a reason.

This castle is very strange. For the King to personally send his knights instead of getting normal personnel. Maybe it's because she is a special case? That message expressed clear interest in her mark. Allen was very wary at first, and yet he ended up agreeing for them to come here.

"Ah," her eyes widened when she saw who it was, "Rhys," Lyn called out.

He reached over and pinched her cheeks, "What on earth were you thinking going here alone? Why don't you listen to your fiance for once."

Lyn recalled what Allen said about an escort, so he meant Rhys. The girl didn't want to bother anybody so late, that's why she simply went by herself. But if she knew the person would be Rhys, then she would have changed her mind.

"Why do you look so pale?" Rhys asked, concerned, "And your cold too."

"It's only because of the weather," the changes in the temperature aside. Lyn felt something ominous since she got closer to this place.

"Be careful."

"Thank you…"

Rhys brushed his hands across her cheek, and Lyn turned shy, "Rhys?"

"Do you guys have a spare room?"

"There's one down the hall."

...….

The interior and feel of the spare room were exactly the same as the halls. The coldness aside, the furniture seemed bland and hard. Rhys must have realized since he removed his cloak and placed it on the bed. "Lay down here, if the pillows are too hard, just use your--," Rhys paused, "No, use my arm."

"Rhys, um," Lyn knew there was no use beating around the bush about it. Since it's him, he surely noticed it already.

Her thoughts broke off when Rhys brushed his hand on her neck, "Who did this?"

Ah, the mark...

Lyn reached over and hugged him, "It's okay; they did nothing."

"Like I can just…"

"Rhys. I'll handle it," she trailed off, "Really, it'll be okay."

A deep sigh escaped Rhys lips, and he nodded. Lyn immediately let go of him.

"Rhys?"

"You, me, a bed and a room. A nice combination, I must say."

"Rh--Rhys, don't…" Just now, that scary thing happened. It took all her willpower to calm down.

To her surprise, though Rhys simply covered her up with the blanket, "That stupid King can wait for you till morning."

"Ah? But…"

"Get some rest. I'll stay here and guard you, so don't worry about a thing."

"Are you messing around?"

"I'm sorry I haven't come to see you," Lyn murmured, "But, I just wanted some space for a bit."

"You're angry?"

"A little," she trailed off when she made eye contact with him, "Okay, so a lot."

Rhys stood up and pulled her into his arms, "Lyn, I've missed you. You should have come to see me."

Ah, he's trembling.. Did he really want to see her that much? It's hard to believe.

"Can I kiss you? I'm going to kiss you, Lyn."

The girl looked down at him, confused and unsure of what to say. "You're blushing, you know."

His smile widened, and the glow in his eyes intensified.

"I-I don't understand," Lyn murmured. Before she could stop him, Rhys had grabbed her wrist, "Rhys, don't do anything."

"I've missed you, Lyn."

Before Lyn could say a word though, Rhys bent down and kissed her. As per usual, his kiss came with no regard to her feelings, and yet unlike how he forced her before there was something different about it. Something different and yet, 'She wonders if Rhys understands that by doing this, it makes things worse for him.'

Hearing a cough, Rhys pulled away from her. It was the man from before, Leo. "Your fiance is waiting with the King."

"Allen?"

Rhys deeply sighed, "I thought I delayed him," he trailed off and wrapped a cloak around her, "Resting can wait, huh?"

..

Once they were down the hallway, Lyn noticed that Rhys was still holding her hand. "You're sick unless you want me to carry you.."

"This is fine," Lyn quickly interjected. Not wanting there to be an awkward silence, she quickly said something. "H--how have you been?" she asked. Lyn realized how stupid that was and cursed herself in her head.

"Dead."

"Dead?" Lyn looked at Rhys puzzled.

"Yeah, you weren't around. Having sex with Beth is nice, but I'd rather do you."

"This is what I don't like about you," Lyn murmured.

"Hm?"

Lyn deeply sighed, 'Forget it,' she thought. There is no use talking to him about this stuff or entertain his thoughts about her further. Rhys may like her, but the way he expresses it is too much for her.

"Say, Rhys, have you been eating?" Lyn changed the topic. He seems to have lost weight a bit.

Rhys looked back at her, "You know for somebody who keeps pushing me away, you sure ask a lot of questions."

"That's only because I'm worried about you."

"Why are you worried?"

Why? Ah, right. Changing the topic aside, why is she so worried about him?

"You know if you two are going to flirt. Maybe you should go back," Leo commented, "The King doesn't understand relationships."

Lyn turned red, "We aren't flirting."

"This isn't flirting," Rhys said.

Realizing that they said it at the same time, Lyn looked away, 'How stupid.'

"Princess Lyn, is it?"

Lyn nodded.

"Don't you have a fiance? I don't know how things are in the Mist Kingdom, but external relationships aren't allowed here."

Eh, it isn't? "Not even during the engagement process?"

"That's right, while our King himself is clueless regarding love. He's strict when it comes to relationships. He has an outdated belief that people can only be in one relationship. I offered to pick you up because I wanted to warn you. Don't mention the other guy," Leo trailed off and turned to Rhys, "And you, better control yourself."

"Oh? What makes you think I'm not the other guy?"

"From her reaction doofus, and were the same type."

Rhys smiled, "Are you the one who touched her?

"She touched me first."

'That's only because she thought he was dead,' Lyn thought. But she kept that to herself; it's better not to mention that. Rhys seems very angry.

His grip on her tightened slightly; however, it wasn't because he wanted to hurt her. No, Lyn could sense his anger directed at Leo. "Care to explain?"

"You're the same type as me so you should understand, no?"

Rhys simply sighed and turned to her. "I didn't have time to see earlier, let me look, " Rhys said, and trailed down towards her neck. " Do you mind if I loosen this?" he asked, pointing to the button.

Lyn hesitated, what happened before remained in her head. It left a permanent scar on her heart.

She managed a nod, and Rhys does so. Lyn could feel him loosen her robes, revealing more and more skin in the process. Rhys placed his hand on the markings, carefully examining them. Unlike that time, he was not looking at her with bad intentions at all. How unusual, all of this. This place and Rhys, everything is strange and foreign to her. Is it because she does not have Kazuya by her side?
