"I can't believe it either you know," Arthur sighed. How did he go from fighting on the front lines, severely injured, and on the verge of death to taking care of this kid? But it seemed like the boy she usually hung around with wasn't around. Watching her by herself made him feel bad.

She is only a child - and here she is in this remote place away from her family, away from her friends. "I don't know why there isn't a guardian with her. Normally girls of her age bring a guardian, whether they are related or not."

According to the Junlan church rules, any apprentices under the age of 13 should be accompanied by a guardian. Judging from the way things are, she's been here for quite some time already.

Why would they send a young girl like this without a guardian? It made little sense to him. Then again, there are many things that didn't make sense to him. He still doesn't understand why the Mist Kingdom attacked them. Why did they think they were the enemy? Because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time? His squad had just returned from a job when they were suddenly ambushed. It was an awful situation.

The ones the Mist Kingdom people are up against isn't the Rain Kingdom. So, why did they get attacked? They don't seem like the type of people who would attack just randomly. Yet, the wounds he sustained is not a lie. They attacked him intending to cause serious damage. They would have killed him. Arthur shuddered at the thought, exactly what is going on?

Why were they attacked? The face of Prince Andrew's cold stare and dark gaze remained in his head, and Arthur sighed. This isn't any good; whenever he thinks of that man's expression, he gets the creeps. His gaze fell on the little girl sat beside him. She was patiently waiting for the food which Sanford was getting from the kitchen.

Is this girl really related to that cold-blooded Prince? It's hard to believe. Though Arthur has only known Lyn for a short amount of time, he can confidently say that the girl is not cold-blooded. Though she acts a bit coy at times, that's as far as it goes.

Sanford returned to the table and placed the omelet in front of Lyn and passed him his sandwich..

the pie, she showed more interest in a sandwich, filled with plenty of mustard, that he was heartily biting into, perplexing the pair.

Catching her gaze on the sandwich, he stops reading the documents in his hands. "Ah, Lyn, this is spicy."

Lyn, however, looked at the sandwich, "I want to have the same as Arthur."

When she said those words, Arthur looked away. This girl can look very mature for one second and then adorable the next. "Arthur, can I have some?"

"Well, sure."

Arthur handed the sandwich over. He watched as Lyn opened her mouth and took a large bite without hesitating. He and Sanford held their breaths as they watched her swallow it down.

"Yummy," Lyn said despite the tears in her eyes.

"This one has got quite some guts." Arthur smiled as he rubbed the girl's head. "Let's eat nothing but spicy dishes for dinner."

"You can't feed a child spicy food!"

Arthur rolled his eyes, "Your one to talk San."

"Were not using me as an example right now."

After a few minutes had passed, the three of them had finished eating their meal. Lyn had positioned herself in his lap and was looking curiously at the documents in his hands. She pointed to the photograph, "Is this town?"

"Yeah," that's where a murder took place not too long ago. The documents in his hands were reports he received from Sanford updating him on the situation. While Lyn could read, he knew some of the words were still far too complicated for her. So he didn't have to worry about her understanding the news report.

"It looks pretty."

Pretty wouldn't be the word he would use to describe the town. But if that's what the little girl thinks then sure enough.

"What's this place, mister?"

"Hm, it's a park."

Lyn kept asking him questions, and it didn't take him long to realize why. "You've...never gone to town before?"

The girl nodded, and Arthur looked at her dumbfounded. Is she serious? He's heard of girls that have been sheltered, but this is a bit too much. He's never heard of nobles who can't go out to town. While some try to restrict their sons and daughters, it is difficult to do so, since all nobles have to do that greeting ceremony in town. "Then, should we go out?"

"But, Im not allowed to leave."

Arthur smiled, "Relax. I will take you."

….

Town

Sneaking out of Junlan church is easy. For somebody who knows the terrain that is. But even then, Arthur was careful. The reason why he was sneaking around instead of walking out of the front door normally is because of this girl standing in front of him. The town was fairly busy today, so Arthur decided to take her to the harbor area.

No matter how crowded it is, the harbor market is large, so they wouldn't have to feel suffocated.

"Why do you have to wear a hood?"

Lyn looked down, "Uh, well uh…"

That was an insensitive question. She's obviously doing so to hide her identity. She really must be some big shot, noble.

"Do you want anything?" Arthur decided to change the topic swiftly.

"Frozen ice!"Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.webnovel.com for visiting.

Arthur blinked, "Huh, you want that in this season? It's cold."

Lyn pouted, "But I've never eaten it before."

She hasn't? Then again, frozen ice isn't exactly popular. It's cold food. Still, this girl hasn't gone to town too... There are probably many other normal things that she hasn't done before. He looked at her and saw Lyn was staring at everything with bright eyes.

His gaze softened, well he supposes he could just show her. This would be a good chance for her to learn. "The stands are over there, let's get some."

"Okay!" Lyn replied cheerfully.

The kid seemed very happy. Well, he supposes this is fine. He did intend to go to town to get some news. He might as well have some fun here too. Still, his gaze darted towards Lyn, who was walking ahead slightly. For a child, isn't she attracting too much attention? It was no exaggeration to say that every person they walked past was looking at her.
