The moment she stepped inside, she spotted her boyfriend's mother, in light clothes, walking to her while beaming. Clearly, she was very happy to see her.
"Good day, auntie."
She smiled and greeted her politely.
"Good, good, good. How was your stay in Tianjin? Are you happy that you're back?" Grasping her hands, Madam Ji smiled back.
The uneasiness she felt inside eased at Ji Ziming's mother's friendliness and concern.
"Mhm, it was great, and I'm happy to be back." She returned the greeting.
"What about you, auntie? How have you been?"
"Great! I've been great!" Madam Ji smilingly patted her hands and then continued. "Are you feeling anxious because my husband called you over?"
She nodded wordlessly.
"Don't be nervous. He is like his son – an awkward person. Relax. Nothing will happen."
Hearing this, the anxiety inside her dissipated by much.
"Let's go. I'll bring you to the study room."
She was led to the study room by the man's mother.
When the two reached the study room upstairs, Madam Ji raised her hand and knocked on the door.
Knock, knock, knock!
"Come in."
A male voice sounded and she happily opened the door.
"Old Ji, Ge Ge is here."
Once she stepped inside, Pei Ge spotted Mister Ji standing before a table meant for calligraphy, elegantly writing down words.
"Mhm."
"I'll let you speak with her alone; I'll go get some snacks."
Madam Ji winked at her and left the study room.
Pei Ge felt nervous upon being left in the room alone with Ji Ziming's father.
As the man leaned forward and performed calligraphy, she did not dare to make any noise or move deeper into the room.
Hence, the study room descended into a tense silence.
After a long period, a voice was finally heard in this still room.
"You were a CFO in Tianjin for so long and even managed to turn those sly foxes into meek lambs; why are you behaving like a timid rabbit in front of me now?"
Mister Ji put down the brush pen in his hand and scrutinized her coldly.
She was taken aback by his words, not getting why he would say such.
Still, before she could think of a reply, the man picked up a towel prepared beforehand and wiped his hands. He then continued coldly. "My son's future wife can't be a timid woman."
