<Your real appearance will be used for your character>

"That of a real body? How will they accomplish this?" Yun Shi mumbled slightly intrigued. Even though he was a NEET, he still graduated from a university as an IT major and things like this were very interesting to him or they were before he became a full-time NEET.

<Body Scan Initialized>

"Body scan?" Yun Shi nodded his head and then realization hit him, "Can that choker scan the body in some way?" He got confused by this thought and he sighed inwardly, "I am so out of touch with technology now… well its no wonder considering, I didn't follow it for two years."

<Body Scan Completion: 1%>

"Oh, it's beginning," he thought.

<Body Scan Completion: 5%>

<Body Scan Completion: 23%>

"This is really taking a long time," he thought.

<Body Scan Completion: 46%>

<Body Scan Completion: 67%>

<Body Scan Completion: 97%>

"Nearly there!" he thought.

<Body Scan Completion: 100%>

<Body Scan Completed>

<Appearance has been set>

He smiled, "Finally!" he shouted in his mind and as he did new information flashed before him.

<Pain intensity is set to 100%>

Yun Shi tilted his head. "Pain intensity? There are senses in this game? You can feel pain in this game? That's so cool!... But wait… 100%? Isn't this a little too much?... I don't want this to become a dead game… with pain, no children will be able to play for obvious reasons and I am pretty sure that most will drop the game because of this 'pain' option. In a few months, I am sure that only the most hardcore players will remain…" he sighed inwardly.

Before his thoughts could continue another message flashed before him.

<Randomising Race>

<Human race selected>

"…" he stared blankly at the message and after a moment mumbled, "I can't even choose my own race?" He shook his head and thought, "Can I at least pick my own class."

<Please select your class>

"Good!" he thought.

A big screen appeared in front of him and on this screen a selection of classes appeared,

<Berserker>

<Archer>

<Sorcerer>

<Warlock>

<Paladin>

"Is that all? Only five classes?" he sighed.

"Hmm…" He looked over the classes a few times and then he clicked on <Berserker> class.

<Class Selected>

<Please input your name> A keyboard appeared in front of him.

"I should just use what I always use," he thought before typing in a name, <D-r-o> once he was done, he pressed the <Confirm> button. The keyboard and the screen disappeared and a message sounded,

<Character creation successful>

<Welcome to RE: Alternative World Online>

<Starting>

<3…2…1…> The space around him twisted and with a flash of light, his surroundings changed.

<Human Novice Village>

Before Dro could do anything, a sudden gust of wind blew past; slightly brushing his short black hair. He blinked his eyes and a wide smile appeared on his face, "I can feel the wind!" he mumbled excitedly. He felt excitement rise from his very core, he never thought that he would ever feel the wind or anything with his human senses in a video game. He always fantasised that he could live in a video game world with all his senses intact and now that he could, he felt so excited that he kept smiling like a complete fool. He was acting the same way as he would act when a girl of his dreams would accept to go out with him – it was the same kind of feeling.

Three breaths of time passed and Dro calmed down.

He noticed that at each corner of his eyes, there were HUD elements. To his bottom left – a chat log in which there was the message that he saw moments before – <Human Novice Village>. To his bottom-middle – an experience bar which was completely empty. To his top-left – his name, level, health and mana or rage because he was a berserker.

<Dro, Level: 0>

<Health: 100/100, Rage: 0>

To his right – the quest tracker which was empty and to his top-right a minimap on which a yellow exclamation mark could be seen. He stared at the minimap and a smile appeared on his face, "A quest, let's go!" he shouted out in his head and he rushed blindly to the quest.

He ran past all other players as he rushed over to the quest. Two breaths of time passed and he reached the town; at the entrance of the town, he saw an old man. This old man had a green ring around his feet and a yellow exclamation marker above his head. This man was currently talking with a player.

"He must be the quest giver as he has the exclamation marker and he is a friendly NPC because of that green ring, " Dro nodded inwardly, and he approached the man when the other player walked away from the man.

"Young adventurer, how good that you have come, I have an urgent task for you, please go to the capital. It is very important."

<Quest Received>

<Quest Objective: Go to the capital>

<Rewards: ???>

<Quest Accepted>

"Is this some kind of tutorial?" Dro thought. He glanced to his right and saw that the quest was added to the quest tracker and on his minimap, a yellow arrow was pointing in the direction of the northwest.

Dro then walked into the town and saw that the entire town had only three buildings and there were no more quests in the small town.

"So there is nothing in this town for me?... I guess to the capital I go… this was an anticlimactic beginner village…" he thought.

Dro shrugged his shoulders and walked out of the small town, to the capital where he had to go to complete the first ever quest that he received.

As he walked to this capital city, he saw other players walking ahead of him. He looked at their backs and thought, "It seemed everyone received the same quest. Well, it not really a surprise. After all, the quests are shared… but I wonder what kind of RPG is this, a sandbox or a theme park… I hope it's a sandbox one… I really hope it is!"

After travelling for quite a while, he finally reached the capital city and as he did the sun was already setting. He entered the city and a notification message flashed before him, <Capital Zandar>

"I have arrived," he mumbled and looked around and as he did, a surprised expression appeared on his face, "This is really amazing… even looking at scenery from a monitor was amazing but looking at it with my own eyes, it really has a different kind of feeling " he thought as he looked at pre-romanesque period buildings. After closely investigating the architecture, he looked to the minimap and walked off in the direction of the arrow which pointed to his quest.

After navigating the streets of the capital city Zandar, he found a middle-aged man with a yellow question marker above his head.

Dro approached this man, "Hello, I have been asked to come here."

The middle aged man looked at Dro then smiled. "Thank you for coming young adventurer,

"Please go to the square which is in the middle of Zandar and wait there until the sun sets."

<Quest Received>

<Quest Objective: Go to the capital square>

<Rewards: ???>

<Quest Accepted>

"Another forced quest?..." he sighed inwardly and looked up into the sky. "The sun is almost down so its fine." He once again followed the yellow arrow on the minimap and in no time at all, he reached the square. It was a huge neat square with a large fountain in the middle.

As he stepped into the square, he looked around and saw many many players standing in different parts of the square. Some, were by themselves while others were in groups. After scanning the players, his eyes moved to the setting sun and he thought, "Not long now."

The time passed, the sun, set and the sky turned dark. In this darkness, a voice echoed in the head of every player that was present in the square.

"Welcome everyone to RE: Alternative World Online – the first VRMMO you will experience as well as your last, from this moment on logging out is disabled. From this moment on you are all part of this world and not the world you came from." After these words were spoken the mysterious voice disappeared not to be heard from again and a notification flashed before every player.

<+0 XP>

<+1 Mystery Gift>

All the players looked around and they showed no panic but rather they just laughed it off as they thought that it was just a starting event to create hype, no one believed the words that were said in their heads. This light atmosphere lasted only for a short moment only until one player suddenly shouted out.

"There is no logout option!"

"Don't joke around," another said and he opened his menu to check and his face paled when he realised that the first player was right. He shouted out, "He is right!" This started a chain reaction and soon the entire square erupted into chaos.
