Chapter 14 – The Si Household (3)

This was what Ye Qingtang needed the most, and also the first step in her revenge against Ye You.

The guards at the entrance of the Si household blocked Ye Qingtang immediately upon her arrival.

Ye Qingtang raised her eyebrow slightly, before putting on a smile and announcing the first sentence that would change her destiny:” Tell your master that I know a way to save the third young master’s life.”

…….

Within the main hall of the Si household, the head of the household, Old Master Si, furrowed his brow while his worried gaze ran over a handsome young man, whose face was regrettably, as pale as a ghost. He voiced his distress to Dr. Xu who was checking the young man’s pulse.

“Dr. Xu, how is his condition?”

Dr. Xu, who was in his fifties, was a renowned physician but unfortunately, even for him, he had to shake his head this time. “The poison within him had become a part of him while he was still a fetus. It is almost impossible to eradicate.”

Upon hearing Dr. Xu’s deduction, a dark gloom came over Old Master Si’s face as his heart sank to the ground.

On the other hand, the seated young man, Si Bai, adjusted his sleeves nonchalantly, as though he had nothing to do with this matter of life and death. He comforted Old Master Si instead: “No worries, grandpa. I’m feeling fine anyway.”

Old Master Si observed Si Bai’s pallid complexion, with his heart seemingly skewered by agony, before being overwhelmed by anger and hatred.

“Fine? What part of you is fine? Curse those treacherous Ye’s for poisoning your mother! If it wasn’t for them, your mother wouldn’t have died and you wouldn’t have to suffer this accursed sickness!!”

“Grandpa, there’s no evidence to determine that the Ye household are responsible for that.” Si Bai uttered a soft-heaving sigh.

Old Master Si sneered: “Evidence? If there’s any, do you think they will still be swaggering around? I would have exterminated them long ago!”

Si Bai was at a loss.

At this moment, one of the guards rushed into the hall to deliver Ye Qingtang’s daring message.

“She knows how to save San-er1?” Old Master Si, after blowing his top, let out a contemptuous laugh. “Seems like the Ye household is getting over their heads! To think they have the nerve to show themselves when I’m not even looking for trouble!”

“Sure! Let her in! If she’s all talk, I’ll make sure she serves her purpose of appeasing my wrath!”

Si Bai furrowed his brows slightly, deep down he knew, of his grandfather’s unfounded resentment against the Ye household. “Grandpa, she’s just a young lady….”

“San-er, you keep out of this, I’ll know where to draw the line.” Old Master Si warned in a deep voice.

Si Bai could only heave a sigh after his futile persuasions. He contemplated possible interventions as he peered at the entrance to the main hall.

Shortly afterward, an attendant from the Si household led a veiled girl into the hall.

When Si Bai’s gaze shifted towards the girl, his eyes wavered for a moment. He had long heard rumors of this young lady from the Ye household, about how meek and timid she was, hiding her hideous face under a veil all the time, but upon meeting her in the flesh, those rumors seemed dubious.

The young girl posted a calm and collected demeanor. Although her face was covered by a veil, her exposed eyes were not soulless nor lifeless. Instead, her pupils were like two pristine beads of onyx that glimmered with vibrancy.

It was hard to believe that a girl with such vibrant eyes would be a hideous freak, and not to mention her composure that totally betrayed a meek and timid nature.

Ye Qingtang noticed Si Bai’s prying eyes when she entered the hall. She raised her pretty eyes instinctively, matching her line of sight with that dashing young man.

When their gazes met, Si Bai expressed his hospitality with a dazzling smile while nodding his head briefly at Ye Qingtang.

Translator’s Notes

San-er is an alias that Old Master Si uses to address Si Bai. The San actually means three in Chinese which corresponds to Si Bai’s position as Old Master Si’s third grandson and also the third young master of the Si household.
