Chapter 1 – Left for Dead, Your Heart’s Too Ruthless

In the central mainland, Nanyan was the number one city.

As the realm that connected the entire continent, the division between Nanyan’s rich and poor was particularly harsh. The Immortals of Fate oppressed the imperial power, the imperial power oppressed the nobles, and the nobles bullied the people.

The sky was dark and gloomy. Black clouds rolled about, as if the wind and rain would come soon.

The iron tang of blood dispersed in the air. A field of corpses laid on the ground in awkward positions. Their deaths were horrendous; blood flowed like the river and wherever the eye could see, there was a startling amount of red. The bodies were still warm, they probably hadn’t died for too long.

Anyone who saw these piles of body would be scared and horrified.

However, a thin girl, around the age of fifteen or sixteen, scuttled around the corpses, expressionless. Every time she passed a corpse, she would squat down and mindlessly take the money bag from the body.

Before long, dozens of money bags were tied full on her waist.

“M-m-miss…doing this…will we be struck by lighting…?” a timid voice mewled behind the girl. The voice had a tremble; she was so fearful that her entire body shivered.

“No.” A cold voice spat out from the rose colored lips.

“But-but the dead are to be respected. Stealing dead people’s money seems…seems bad…” The small servant girl almost started to cry.

This wasn’t even the first time.

Ye Muxi was unperturbed: “Give me the vase.”

The small servant girl passed it over.

Ye Muxi took the vase and set it down on the floor. The small servant girl’s heart throbbed with the unsteady movement of the vase: “Miss, be careful. This is the half-year rent we have just received from the countryside.”

The land that the people received from the Ye family were all wastelands from the far out countryside. There was insufficient water supplied to the wasteland so no one wanted to rent it. Only a few people went and cultivated a small amount of land. They didn’t have money to pay the rent, so the only mortgage was this vase.

Anyone could see that this vase wasn’t antique nor was it worth much.

But there was no use, it was already the farmers most valuable object.

It was the Ye clan who were too ruthless. The current head of the Ye clean was Ye Muxi’s uncle. The Ye clan was enormous; in order to be the head of the clan, there would inevitably be some competition. Then, Ye Muxi’s father died in an accident. Without her family’s backbone, the current head of Ye clan immediately made an excuse by giving them a piece of land and drove them out to let them die on their own.

However, perhaps only the head of the Ye clan knew whether or not Ye Muxi’s father really died in an accident.

Unexpectedly, they saw the bloody scene just after collecting the rent.

Yet the small  girl in their family had on a face like it was nobody’s business. Without saying a word, she went straight for the money bag!

Although their family was poor, they weren’t poor to this degree, Miss!

The little servant girl cried miserably: “Break this vase and our rent for the half year will be gone.”

Ye Muxi twitched her lips expressionlessly, but lightened her movements.

She poured the silvers from the purse into the vase, and then threw the bloody purse back to the ground.

The little servant girl flinched behind Ye Muxi; looking at the dead bodies: “They’re so pitiful to all die here in so much blood. How many people are there?”

Ye Muxi didn’t even raise her head: “A hundred thirty-seven.”

The little servant girl opened her mouth and looked at Ye Muxi, and then looked at the corpses, wondering when her Miss had counted.

With so many corpses piled here, the moment the weather turned warm, the corpses would rot. When the wind blew, the odor of the corpses would spread to the capital city, Nanyan, and it might cause some kind of infectious disease.

They had to be cremated.

Ye Muxi covered the corpse with hay and blew on the firestarter tube, and began to ignite bodies with a blank look, intending to burn them all.

Unexpectedly, a hand stretched out from the pile of corpses and grabbed Ye Muxi’s foot.

“Ahhh! Miss! A z-zombie!” The little girl screamed in fright.

Ye Muxi lowered his head and met a pair of cold, harsh eyes.

The man’s face was covered with blood, and she was unable to see his appearance. What she could see was that his facial features were particularly deep, especially that pair of eyes stained with blood. At a glance, it seemed as deep and profound as the ocean undisturbed by waves. A closer look revealed an exceptional fierce, cold charm.

Ye Muxi looked at him calmly; her narrow, oval face  too calm for her age.

“Let go of me,” she said.

The man didn’t let  go, but grasped even tighter. The dark glint streaked across his unfathomable deep eyes as he glanced at the vase in her hand.

Ye Muxi frowned slightly.

Then she lifted her other foot emotionlessly, kicking it fiercely at his wound.

“…”

The man groaned, and a severe pain spread all over his body. He never thought that the little girl who stole money would dare to murder so arrogantly.

He reluctantly let go of Ye Muxi’s feet and blacked out from the pain.

“Okay.” Ye Muxi retracted her foot. “It’s time to go.”

The little servant girl was stunned in place: “Miss, you-you-you killed someone!”

“I didn’t kill,” Ye Muxi said calmly: “It’s just robbery.”

The little servant girl: “…”

The little servant girl wanted to yell and stamp her feet. Please, Miss, don’t do things like arson and murder as easy as saying ‘today’s weather is good, let’s eat a bowl of rice’!

Looking at Ye Muxi, who was walking farther and farther, and thinking about the pile of dead people behind him, the little servant girl stomped her feet and rushed forward.

“Immortals of Fate in the heavens, we didn’t kill these people, it wasn’t us… Miss and I just passed by and stole their silver on the way …”

……

The stench of blood pervaded in every corner.

The unconscious man woke up again and gave a signal in pain.

Slowing his breath, he sat up slowly and looked at the pile of money bags that were emptied and thrown on the ground not far away. He narrowed his eyes slightly, and his bloody thin lips smoothed out in a straight line.

A chilling intent condensed in his bloody eyes.

He raised his hand and pressed onto his chest, remembering that Ye Muxi’s merciless foot. His expression became even more sinister.

Ruthless girl.

Soon, a shadow bodyguard came quickly.

“Master…”

The man waved his hand.

“Set this place on fire.” His voice carried a bit of hoarseness, but with a careful listen, one could distinguish a sliver of iciness within.

“Yes.”

When a gust of wind blew, the fire spread quickly; covering all the bodies under the sea of fire.

In the sea of fire, the smoke was dense. Yet, it was strange that the smoke created by the fire was not the black nor gray color one normally sees, but an abnormal green smoke.

With the spread of green smoke, all the surrounding trees and trees gradually withered away. The blood on the ground also gradually disappeared, and anything with a life spirit was slowly moving toward death.

If Ye Muxi and the little servant girl were still here, they would definitely be surprised to find that one hundred plus corpses that had just lain on the ground were turned into a gray-green monster under the strange fire.

They had incredibly sharp fangs and had scarlet eyes the size of a copper bell. The scales on their body were heavy with the smell of fish and each monster’s appearance were all abnormally menacing.

They were, by no means, human.
