In the control room, Meng Li was sitting on the mat in the middle. The room was barren as always, and the text which was previously prominent on the wall disappeared when Meng Li started communicating with the system mentally. But now, the previously empty room wasn't as empty as previously. Around Meng Li were a few floating objects. There were a few books, and the rest were common household objects or simply toys. What they were didn't matter - Meng Li was using them to train his control. How was he doing that? Simple. He used his qi to control the objects so that they would float. However, he wasn't letting them simply bob up and down - he made them move in a complicated pattern around himself. The items sometimes came dangerously close to each other, but they never collided - the slow dance of the items was almost hypnotising.

Suddenly, Meng Li released a breath. He had been holding it in for quite a long time - the training he came up with was hard to the point where even breathing required concentration he simply didn't have. After all, if during training you weren't giving your everything, how could you improve? With such a mindset, Meng Li improved tremendously during the time he spent cultivating.

After he stopped, Meng Li did what he always did after a training session - went to sleep. The training was quite taxing on him, so he was tired, mentally. He could feel that if he persisted, he would get a headache. And he hated headaches.

The sleep he had was dreamless. It was as if he had teleported into the future. After a few minutes of staring mindlessly at the void that was the ceiling on the control room, Meng Li decided to take a look at the colonies. This should be the third week - he remembered to check in every week for the last two weeks, and the weird phenomena of time travel during training didn't occur, fortunately. However, the slight fear that it might happen was still in the back of his mind, gnawing at his sanity. And alas, his fear was confirmed as he took a look at his favourite colony, the island paradise colony. The chief of the tribe was at the Qi Sea Realm...

"Sigh..."

<System, how long was I training for?>

[3 months, 4 days, 11 hours and 49 minutes.]

<How much is that in years?>

[About 260 years. Precisely 261.5 years.]

At this point, Meng Li once again could only stare wordlessly at the ceiling. Was there some sort of alarm functionality to the system? He would have to ask sometime, before he did anything in the future. Training and sleeping, being the most important ones. But after a bit of thought, Meng Li couldn't help but frown. He just realised something - he was no longer on earth, and no matter how much time he spent on anything, it wouldn't matter. He had no deadlines apart from ones he set himself, and death, though that was a long, long time away since a normal Qi Foundation Realm Cultivator can live up to 2000-3000 years, so he could live at least 30 000 years. It was just a month - there was no rush to do anything. If anything, this training session was only to pass time, to get actual, living, breathing human beings. Or at least ones which could cultivate.

This realisation astounded Meng Li. It was as though some barrier within his mind was broken, allowing countless possibilities and ideas to rush into his mind. He was no longer in a world constrained by countless rules, which society imposed on him. Although he missed some of the comforts of modern civilization, if he had a choice between the responsibility-free life he had with the system and the life he had on earth, he would always choose the former.

With this new thought, Meng Li asked a question that popped up into his head after seeing the Qi Sea Cultivator.

<System, is it possible for people or beasts to become stronger than me?>

[Not really. While it isn't impossible, it's extremely hard. There is a limit on everything which can cultivate in your world. If your cultivation is in a certain realm, no one can break through into the realm and attain strength similar to yours. And while it isn't impossible, the breakthrough is at least 10 times harder. And even if they did, with your foundation, you would be able to easily defeat them.]

This was new to Meng Li. It occurred to him after the system responded that he should've asked about such a fundamental thing earlier, but what could he do? He couldn't change the past, so he decided to simply move on.

After thinking for a bit, Meng Li decided to look at the colonies. The people living in them were not the ones he had summoned - after more than 300 years, they have long since died and been replaced by new generations. Assuming that a new generation came every 20 to 30 years, this had to be at least the tenth generation after the first summoned people, who he decided to call the 'ancestors'. The area within the barrier generated by the array was 10 km in radius, and it was still quite empty after all those years. Despite settling down, the village still mostly ate meat and the farms they did have were small, if not tiny. This might no be the case for other colonies, as they all were summoned in different places with different conditions, but at least in this village, people mostly ate prey their hunting squad killed or fish, from either the river nearby or the ocean. They had quite the variety, with both saltwater and freshwater fish, as well as different seafood, like crabs, clams, shrimp, and other marine creatures. But still, their diet mostly consisted of beast food. That's right, beast - they no longer only hunted for regular animals - now that people could cultivate, everyone was a cultivator. The lowest level Meng Li could spot in an adult was a 2nd stage of Qi Gathering, and upon closer inspection, it was only because that person had god-awful talent. Everyone worked hard and cultivated practically all their free time. The hunting squad was comprised of the strongest people in the tribe, with the chief also being a member. He broke through to the Qi Sea Realm only a few years ago, from what Meng Li managed to eavesdrop. The weakest person in the hunting squad was in the 7th level of Qi Gathering, and a few were in the 9th stage of Qi Gathering. What Meng Li found weird was that no one seemed to be in the 10th stage of Qi Gathering - even the leader of the hunting squad was only at the 9th level before the breakthrough, which confused Meng Li to no end.

<System, why are those people not cultivating to the 10th level? After all, you can break through to the Qi Sea Realm only when you're in the 10th level, right?> Meng Li asked confusedly.

[No. It's possible to break through to the Qi Sea Realm from the 9th stage, but doing so would impact a person's future achievements, thus the manual you received from master requires you cultivate to the 10th stage.]

Meng Li once again wanted to smack his head because he didn't think to ask this earlier.

<Is it like that for all the realms in the manual?>

[Yes, except the Qi Sea Realm. The 9th level really is the peak, and your situation was hard to resolve. Without the healing Qi provided by the control room you would've failed. Such a situation, with a big Qi Sea, although possible, it's not at all recommended. That's why it wasn't included in the manual.]

The manual the system was referring to was the small booklet Meng Li received when he was first transported to the control room. Although at first it seemed thin, as Meng Li grew stronger, he began to realise that it wasn't as simple as he had thought it was. For example, he skimmed the manual when he first received it, but he didn't remember anything apart from the first chapter, which was talking about the Qi Gathering realm. Of course, he blamed it on the fact that he was simply skimming it and didn't try to actually remember. However, when he tried to memorise the entire thing when training when he was in the Qi Foundation Realm, he realised something. Apart from the names of the stages, he couldn't actually memorise anything higher than his own stage. For example, right now, if he were to open the manual and read it back to back, he would only be able to recall the chapters about Qi Gathering, Qi Sea and Qi Foundation Realms, and up further, he would only be able to recall the names - Origin Core, Nascent Soul... And after that, he couldn't recall anything, not even the names of the realms. The only information about higher stages he would be able to remember is the method to break into the next realm.

It was exceedingly strange, and because he wanted to avoid a headache while thinking about the fact that the booklet was messing with his brain and deleting memories or preventing memories from being formed, Meng Li simply decided not to think about it.

Going back to the island paradise colony, Meng Li took some time to admire the little town they made. It was simple, but clean. The houses were made from wooden planks, and every person had a house - the entire tribe was like one big family. But upon further inspection, it broke down. In reality, the tribe was a complicated mess - if someone were to try and draw a family tree, it would come out as a tangled mess of branches. There were many families, and only a few were in power. There were only a few things everyone had - a house and access to simple food. Everything else was a privilege, snatched by the strongest families. Right now, the strongest family was the family of the tribe chief. Then came the families of the hunters - the hunting squad was a gathering of strength and a symbol of power - the hunters who belonged to it, were entitled to a share of the game the squad caught. The meat of the stronger beasts was very valuable, as well as the beast cores - they both could help with cultivation. The beast meat, when consumed over long periods of time, would increase a person's strength and very slightly, their talent. The beast cores could help a cultivator, since the cultivator could absorb the pure energy the beast cultivated. The already refined energy was easy to absorb and convert into their own. These kinds of resources were hard to acquire if someone wasn't a part of the hunting squad or family to a member. Thus, a hierarchy of sorts was formed - the families which had strong family members who were a part of the hunting squad were growing even stronger and their offspring had an easier path of cultivation, while the families at the bottom could only take on the harder tasks while having less time for cultivation and less resources. In such a way, different classes were slowly being made.

After Meng Li finished looking at the island paradise colony, he realised that he didn't have much to do. After all, his ideas of creating his own sect or accepting disciples were built on the premise that the world was open enough for new powers. So, he needed enough population, and a civilization more open than a close knit tribe. If a person suddenly appeared in one of the colonies, they would be heavily suspected as no one had ever seen them before. This was a problem, and Meng Li had to wait until the tribes split, the population increased and the tribes made contact with each other. Suddenly, he regretted that he placed the colonies so far from each other - now he would have to wait a lot of time until he had the chance to have fun. But now, Meng Li had an idea. He wanted to create artificial ruins all over the world, with techniques hidden within them, which may spark conflict between different people and lead to the creation of some forces, like sects, kingdoms, or even empires. As well as work on this, Meng Li also had to somehow eliminate the arrays. After all, despite seeming like a good idea at first, with the barriers and the help they were providing, the colonies would never willingly explore or move out. They would simply sit in their small barrier, simply sustaining themselves.
