As he sat, Meng Li used his Spiritual Sense to feel if any people woke up extremely early. He was lucky - it turned out some people woke up even before dawn. As they woke up and looked outside, Meng Li was simply half-sitting on the pile of planks, looking like he was waiting. He was, in fact, waiting. For morning, so he wouldn't wake up everyone in a mile radius by hammering too loudly.

Fortunately, the dawn came quickly. All of the people around him were already doing their daily routine. He received quite a lot of curious looks from the people walking by. It wasn't strange - his outfit was enough to draw attention by itself, and the weirdness of the situation he was in didn't help. However, Meng Li paid no heed to the strange gazes and simply waited.

When everyone woke up and he judged that the light was enough to start, he began working. Firstly, the house... It needed to be demolished. Practically all of the wood used to make the house had rotten, including the thick logs in the corners, which were supposed to hold up the roof. The roof itself was also practically falling apart, with a quarter of it missing, the rotten pieces lay scattered on the floor. The air in the house was a bit stale and damp, and the smell of rot was all-encompassing.

The wood used to make the house couldn't be reused - the only thing they could be used for is laying the bottom of a latrine.

With a well aimed punch, Meng Li collapsed one of the thick logs holding the roof. It was entirely rotten on the inside as well, and it would break even if a child punched it, so it was effortless for him. Without the log's support, the entire roof collapsed, bringing the rotten walls with it on the way. The collapsing wood stirred up a huge cloud of dust, bringing with it plant matter and pieces of the rotten wood. The smell was quite similar to how a forest smells, but not as fresh.

Meng Li shielded his nose with his sleeve. Not waiting for the cloud of dust to settle, he walked over to the second pillar, breaking it with one punch as well. This pillar turned out to be stronger than the previous one, with the rot not managing to enter the core. However, Meng Li collapsed it with a single fist as well. The cloud of dust only thickened with the collapse of another part of the roof. Still shielding his nose, Meng Li broke the remaining two pillars in a similar fashion.

The loud noise brought the people in the area out of their houses to see what was happening. Meng Li could hear people discussing his actions behind his back, chattering with each other.

"Why is this kid destroying Old Man Yan's house? Does he have a grudge with him or something?"

"There seems to be a pile of planks there... Does he plan on rebuilding it? What for??"

"He wouldn't happen to want to live here, would he?"

The people were discussing his actions behind him, but he didn't worry. He waited for a bit for the dust cloud to settle until turning around and facing the people he would be neighbours with.

"Hello friends. I'm planning to live here from now on, so treat me well as a neighbour." He said with a smile.

The people surrounding him showed a variety of expressions. Ranging from mocking to pity, the common thing was that everyone was surprised.

"You plan to live here? Why this of all places?" one middle aged man asked curiously.

"I wanted a remote house and found this place. Can I live here?" Meng Li asked politely.

"Of course you can. This was where Old Man Yan lived, he died six years ago. He had no relatives, so the house stood empty until today." the man answered. He was quite welcoming and introduced himself right away.

"I'm Ji Bai. We'll be neighbours from now on." he said with a big smile and bowed slightly.

"I'm Meng Li. Please take care of me in the future." Meng Li answered and returned the bow.

With this, more people began to introduce themselves and began chatting with him. He learned their names, ages, as well as their jobs. It turned out that Ji Bai was nearing forty and was an apprentice blacksmith in the blacksmith shop Meng Li bought nails from.

He also learned that the people in the area had quite boring lives, and any change was enough to entertain them for a long time, so he had to prepare himself for frequent visits from his neighbours. That meant that he had to make his alibi better - or rather, come up with a job. For now, he managed to avoid all of the questions, but it wouldn't be so easy in the future.

After all the people left to do their jobs, Meng Li returned to building the house - or, at the moment, cleaning up the old, rotten house. Fortunately, the ground in the old house wasn't planks, but instead simply packed earth, which saved him the trouble of digging up rotten planks from the ground. However, the same couldn't be said about the support pillars - they were dug at least a meter into the ground. Digging all the rotten wood out wasn't hard, but it was annoying for him. And quite disgusting - the rotten wood was inhabited by all kinds of bugs, who were all quite disturbed with the destruction of their house.

Meng Li didn't have a phobia of insects. However, it sufficed to say that he didn't like them that much. Thus, he did not enjoy digging up the rotten logs.

However, to his surprise, the holes he had dug out could be used to build his new house if he just made them a bit deeper. When the holes were all dug out, Meng Li realised that he probably should've also bought a shovel, but he had already done the job, and there was no use in regretting it.

Now that the remains of the old house were cleaned out, he could finally start building. His plan was simple - to have four pillars supporting the roof, and on the pillars the entire house would be built. He would also have wooden floor - having a floor made out of packed earth didn't sound good. As such, the floor would be planks laid on top of two wooden logs stretched between the supporting pillars. If the planks were unable to bear the weight of a few people, he would place a support in the middle.

With a plan, Meng Li got to work. With his strength, carrying logs was nothing, not to mention planks. As such, the four pillars were stable in no time. Now, Meng Li laid four logs on the ground in a square with the four pillars as corners. This way, the logs would serve as both support for the floor and prevent cold wind from seeping in from the cracks in the floorboards.

The logs were attached to the pillars by nails and a few planks which were dug into the ground with Meng Li's immense strength. After he made sure they were stable, he shaved the tops of the logs to be completely flat. The ground was a bit angled - not to the point where it was impossible to walk on, but it was noticeable. And it was annoying. And so, on the logs, he placed the planks. At first, he wanted to have one layer, but it was not at all enough to support a few people even after he added support in the middle. And, it had way too much cracks. So, he laid another layer of planks on top of the first one, but the layer on top laid perpendicular to the bottom layer. Even this wasn't enough, so he laid another two layers. In the end, he settled for four layers.

Now that he had a satisfactory floor, he build the walls. These were simple - also layers of planks. Doing this took a lot of nails, but Meng Li didn't care. After he ran out, he simply made a trip to the blacksmith and bought some more. He didn't see Ji Bai, but it was to be expected since he worked in the forge and had no time to come out. However, he asked the person standing the counter to say hello to Ji Bai from him.

After the trip to the blacksmith, he managed to complete the walls without any trouble. In the end, there was one entrance and one window. He also built a thin wall separating the living space into two rooms. The smaller room was the bedroom, and it was completely closed off except a small door built in the wall separating it from the other room. The other room was quite small too, since the entire house was small. It had the door to the outside, and a small window. Meng Li, in the woodworking frenzy, also decided to build a small tea table. He didn't have a tea set, but he simply summoned one and placed it on the small table. He also summoned two cushions to sit on and placed them around the table.

At this point, he realised that something was missing - it was a fireplace. And it was quite a crucial part of any household. Not very troubled, Meng Li simply cut a round hole in the floor and supported the planks around it. He then used the long unused terrain tab in his consciousness to control the ground into the shape he wanted. He created a simple fireplace, with a chimney sticking half a meter above where the roof was supposed to be. The small fireplace was only open on one side, towards the room with a window, but half of it was in the bedroom, to keep it warm. Although Meng Li didn't need it, it was still more comfortable to be in a hot place while it was cold outside. And, when he left, he would leave a tidy, neat and comfortable home for one. After creating the fireplace, Meng Li fixed the wall he had broken in order to place it. He also used the terrain tool to seal all the cracks in the floor and the walls, to avoid having sealing them himself. After all of that, despite feeling quite tired, he continued to work on the roof. The roof was simple to build - a supporting structure built from thicker planks, and a grid of normal planks on which the roof itself would go. The roof was extremely simple - flat and sloping towards two sides, laid with curved roof tiles. It wasn't special by any means.

The only other thing apart from the small house Meng Li build was the balcony. Or rather, the porch. It was a small platform near the door - With how he built the floor, the door ended up being quite high, so he built a porch. It was covered by the roof which extended over it, but it was barren. Apart from supports for the roof, the only thing on it were the stairs leading to the ground. Meng Li also created a simple path leading to the road from the stairs, but simple removing the weeds growing on it. It was extremely simple, with no decorations whatsoever.

As he finished, Meng Li returned. He was quite tired - not physically, but mentally. All this hard work made him want to go to the control room and... Cultivate...

When he had this thought, Meng Li began to think that cultivation really was getting into his head. He couldn't help but let out a small chuckle as he stepped into the newly built house. He threw some timber into the fireplace and lit it up. In no time, the small place felt much more comfortable and finally felt like a real home.

Meng Li summoned some tea leaves and prepared himself a cup of tea. It was a long time since he simply sat down and drank tea... The familiar flavour comforted him. Meng Li sat down near the table and executed the Heavenly Yin Yang Shroud technique and stretched it over to the young couple's house. This reminded him - he didn't know their names. He would have to make a trip to learn of all the neighbours' names and where they lived.

However, that was for the future. Meng Li smiled slightly and sunk into executing the technique.
