Chapter 56: Watching

The sound of fighting still continues in the back room. As we get closer to the Dungeon Master’s room as we approaches, one door remains being flung open. There’s 3 enemy reactions in the room when I confirmed it with the Map. There’s also 3 blue dots that seems to be adventurers fighting against them. Since there’s the danger of both party turned against us if we just barged into the room as it is, I decided that we should hide ourselves once we’re in front of the entrance to the room.

The first thing that entered my vision is a bearded man with good physique wrapped in black plate mail, wielding a large sword befitting of his stature. I guess he’s around 30 years old? Facing against that man is an armor one size smaller than him…. Living Mail. Although not as large as that man’s, it was also holding a huge sword with both of its hands. Since the face peeping out from under the helmet had dried up, it is correct to think of it as an Undead.

A woman with similar physique is standing on the left side of the man. Surprisingly, she’s wearing what us man called the Bikini Armor. Although the equipment is pretty common in game, I don’t think there will be a day that I was able to see a real one. Hmmm…. although it sure is sexy, I wonder how would you protect your body with that? I thought for sure that only young woman would equip such an armor, but she looks to be the same age as that man earlier. She’s a ‘courageous’ woman in various sense of the meaning. The woman is equipped with a normal-sized sword, without any shield.

The woman is facing against an existence that seems to be a moving large shield. No… I could see that it was a knight in a small-sized armor hiding itself behind the shield. Since it doesn’t wear a helmet, I understood at once that this one is also an Undead.

And on the right side of the man, there’s a woman that is really suited to be called a wizard, wearing a bright red-colored robe while holding a big cane in hand. This one seems to be fairly younger than the other two. If the other two is around 30, this woman seems to be in her early twenties.

What confronts the woman is an Undead holding an eerie cane with the skull of a small animal at the tip. It wears a jet-black robe that looked tattered if you compare it with the female wizard, so I understood that it’s an enemy that use magic with just a glance.

All three of them seems to be around level 50 to 52. The Undeads are around the same too. As expected of the adventurers of the highest rank, they’re really high leveled. With both cuts and bruises, there’s also not so noticeable burn injuries. It seems that their fight is pretty intense.

“Oraaaa’!”

The man raised a roar and slashed at the enemy in front. The Living Mail that look slow-witted moved with a speed that cannot be imagined and block the sword in front of its face, taking the slash of that man head on. And when it parried that man’s sword and slashed back in return, aiming to cut at the flank of that man which seems to be open at that time…  but, that man jumped back immediately right before the attack hit and send a counter.

I switch to look at the female warrior facing the enemy with the large shield. When the enemy parried her attacks quickly with its shield, the female warrior continuously threw a stab with her thin weapon from the shadow of the shield. That seems to be a weapon called Estoc that is specialized in piercing. It is also called the armor piercer, as it could easily goes through any armor with low defense. Although the female warrior keep on attacking, she couldn’t land a single blow with her weapon.

“Tch.”

She clicks her tongue and jump back to take distance from her enemy. Her enemy didn’t miss that chance and pushed forward with the shield in front. It hurled itself fiercely. It seemed to hold out for a moment since it doesn’t know whether the woman would push back or not, but she managed to evade the blow without being able to finish the fight.

Some small fire balls that seems to be Flame magic appeared around the wizard. The fire ball absorbs her magic power and gradually increasing their size. Probably trying to oppose her, the Undead wave its cane and unleashed it’s magic too. Some balls of ice float around the Undead. Although it seems to be different from the magic that I use, it should still be the Ice magic. Although it’s a magic that is in contrast from her, the number and size are about the same.

“Eat this!”

At the same time that the woman shout, the fire balls shot towards the enemy. At the same time, the Undead also swing its cane, shooting the balls of ice with intense force. When the two magic crashed in the middle, it produced a terrible steam and vanished. Their skills in magic seems to be equal. When the female wizard concentrate to prepare for the next magic, the Undead jumped out from the steam. Apparently, the Undead seems to be on top when you compare for the aggressiveness. The woman was taken by surprise and her reaction is a moment’s late, her left shoulder was hit with the cane that the enemy that sung down straight.

“That hurts! You bastard!”

The woman cursed and kicked the enemy’s lower part. The kick managed to make her take some distance again, facing each other. I guess her shoulder hurt, she’s holding her left shoulder with a grim face. The battle seems to be at draw. The battle fluctuates with both offense and defense.

Now then, now what are we going to do? As a person, the right choice would be to help the adventurers and defeat the monsters. However, our purpose of coming here is to secure the ring. I checked at the back of the room, behind the Undeads, there seems to be something enshrined on a pedestal.

There are many options that we need to think. One is we’ll leave them as it is until either of them are exterminated. Then we’ll attack the one that survived to get the ring. Another method is to set a surprise attack for both of them, sending explosion magic when both party are weakened. However, if I’m going to do this, it’s better to wait until one of them is wiped. The last one is to get the ring while both party are fighting, then change to Tonzura’s method.
[T.N: seems to be a Yetterman reference. As I never watch it, I don’t know much but it seems to be a character that is good at running away.]

If the adventurers win, the possibility that we could secure the ring becomes extremely low. They are higher in term of war potential, and since they might have level up if they managed to defeat enemies like the Dungeon Master, their fatigue and injury are going to be recovered instantly too. It is disadvantageous to fight such opponents up front.

In that case, should we wait for the Undead to win? Since I don’t think that I can steal the ring in the middle of a fight, this is the most sure method. Let’s go with a surprise attack from the back if the adventurers seems to be winning. I’ve said this before but I’m not a knight of justice, I only love myself and my family. Although it is unbearable to let the adventurers die, sympathy is useless since they are rivals.

The policy is already decided. From now on let’s remain hidden and see how this fight goes.
