Chapter 134        He Who Laughs Last, has the best laugh

During the last phase, resources were deficient as transportation failed. The three million people in Brooklyn were already suffering. They had robbed and snatched everything they could. In the end, they realized there was nothing better than having a wonderful and full meal.

Zetas was like a stopper: it blocked the way from Brooklyn to Manhattan with its forces. It stopped the people who were suffering in Brooklyn from getting into Manhattan. However, once the stopper was removed, a large amount of people went from Brooklyn to Manhattan in just one night.

Most of them lacked ability or talent. They were in the lower-class society who only had physical strength and simple minds. As they heard from Los Zetas that there were pretty girls and plenty of food, they immediately rushed towards Kenney Street happily.

A few hundred meters didn’t take them very long. The refugees not only went in the direction of Kenney Street, they were scattered and rushed towards Chinatown behind Kenney Street.

As the refugees were coming in like a bunch of locusts, Chinatown had to face a huge enemy at the moment. Instantly, people in Chinatown started to fire and stopped them from entering. Thus, the refugees bypassed Chinatown and rushed towards midtown and even downtown Manhattan. As they ran across Manhattan, they encountered all sorts of forces and organizations that were already well-formed.

The streets were blocked with all kinds of barricades and obstruction. Snipers were camped on top of the buildings. Usually, there were a few hundred or even thousands of people who stayed in the street or a building. Everyone understood that they needed to work together to prevent the invasion of other people.

As there was no one who wanted to accept the refugees, they were chased further and further away. It was fortunate that Manhattan was big enough. Thousands of people disappeared like water flowing through a slit as soon as they arrived in Manhattan. During the night, most of them gathered in parks. They were waiting for chances to make trouble and to find some food and valuable items.

The whole situation was caused by Zhou Qingfeng. If it were not for him, Zetas would have the ability and time to manage the people from Brooklyn and conquer the entire Manhattan. However, while Zhou Qingfeng had been wreaking havoc the entire week, the people from midtown and downtown Manhattan had the time to group up and organize. They started to form a few small groups and forces.

After the wave of refugees rushed towards Manhattan, Los Zetas was astonished. Zetas thought Zhou Qingfeng would have an intense fight with the refugees and would be killed by them. Finally, Zetas would be the one who had the advantage.

However, it was just a small-scale fight and it didn’t even make a small wave. The refugees rushed towards Kenney street aggressively, but there was nothing much over there. They continued to run north. After that, they encountered strong enemies in some buildings and streets. They could not do anything but escape. Finally, they paid the heavy price for what they did - they were all killed. The whole thing was just unexpected!

What the hell!

Didn’t we send people over there to kill them last night? Why isn’t anything happening today?

Yesterday, they attacked us with the backhoe loader. Why is there no sound from them today?

Yesterday, they invaded during midnight. They killed and burned. Where have they all gone?

Los Zetas couldn’t believe it. As he saw that the people who rushed to Kenney street were safe, he walked for a few hundred meters and arrived at Kenney street in person. As soon as he arrived, he found out the place was already empty. Everything had been moved and there was nothing left.

“Victor Hugo, you’re so tricky, so crafty. He escaped! It must be because of our barrier troops yesterday. He couldn’t stand it and ran away. That goddamn b*stard, don’t let me see him again. Otherwise, I will hang him, throw him into the barrel, and burn him to death.”

Los Zetas was standing in front of Kenney street. He looked at the overturned armored excavator and the ruined and abandoned buildings. Los Zetas heaved a sigh of relief but he was outraged. He used up everything, put everything in, and when he started to lose hope, the enemy disappeared all of a sudden. He was happy but at the same time, he felt bad!

“Los, what should we do now?” Guzman felt suspicious. He thought Victor Hugo was not a man to give up that easily. However, when he and Koval came to assault Zhou Qingfeng last night, indeed, they saw people in Kenney street busy packing up. Thus, it was reasonable to say that they had escaped.

Los Zetas was standing in front of the abandoned street waving his hands happily. Again, his ambition was restored, “Let’s do it all over again. We’re still establishing the Republic of New York. We can slowly recruit without Zhou Qingfeng here making trouble. We’ll control the rate of expansion and completely take over downtown Manhattan. We’ll be stronger than ever!”

Los Zetas regained a little confidence. He had experienced the pain of expanding forces too quickly. When a hundred became a thousand instantly, they were just wasting resources and looking for death.

“Jos’ death was a shame. Otherwise, he’d be happy. We need to recruit some people with good management. Brooklyn lacked people like this but there are actually many people like that in Manhattan. We should expand our forces by order. It has to be slow. We have a lot of time and we don’t even have to worry about that.”

Los Zetas relaxed and made a few conclusions about his loss. He decided - the Republic of New York will be officially established tomorrow to increase morale. Even though we started off a little weak, our future is bright! God will be with us.

As Zetas thought about controlling downtown Manhattan, Zhou Qingfeng was actually not far away. In fact, he was incredibly close to Los Zetas at the moment. As soon as Katrina escaped with the weak and old people, Zhou Qingfeng brought around fifty men and stayed in the subway.

“One more day, just this last tunnel.” There were a few lamps in the dark. Mox was laughing happily in front of the high-pressure hydraulic jet cutter. “Behind this wall must be the police headquarters’ dugout.”

Zhou Qingfeng and his men were fitted in the wet and narrow tunnel. It was formed and connected by dozens of tunnels. This included a huge amount of gas pipe tunnels, sewers, heater pipe tunnels and so on. Mox had to be underground for seven days to get through that tunnel.

“Hahaha…., good job, Mox!” Zhou Qingfeng did bother about being dirty. He walked forwards and gave Mox a big hug. His laugh reverberated within the dark tunnel.

Butcher and David Lawrence started to laugh and even the people who were working with Mox started to laugh. After they sacrificed hundreds of lives and went through all the pain and danger, it was finally the moment for success.

“Los Zetas must be laughing on the ground and here we are, laughing underground. We’ll wait until tomorrow. Let’s see who’s the last one laughing.”
