Chapter 152        Departure of the Young Woman

Zhou Qingfeng obtained the information from the city hospital that Fang Ruhu’s throat surgery had been rescheduled later in the night. Fang Ruhu would be further observed for a few hours after the surgery was successfully carried out. He would then be sent to the general ward and taken care by a nurse for his remaining time in the hospital.

When dawn arrived, it was very likely that someone would come to the hospital to visit Fang Ruhu and congratulate him on his successful surgery. Zhou Qingfeng would not have opportunity to carry out his scheme during the day. Therefore, the only possible time frame for carrying out his scheme would be at night, specifically when Fang Ruhu would be moved from the operating theater to the general ward.

Zhou Qingfeng did not get any information about Fang Ruhu’s ward from the doctor. However, after asking as a visitor, Zhou Qingfeng easily obtained information from the nurse about Fang Ruhu’s ward number. He then scouted the area between the operating theatre and general ward to familiarize himself with the path, identified the location of surveillance cameras, and determined the location for him to carry out his scheme.

Zhou Qingfeng was planning to turn Fang Ruhu, who by then would be equipped with an artificial throat, into a corpse and bring it to Wasteland. As long as he could avoid the sight and surveillance of the others, no one would know where Fang Ruhu disappear off to. Most importantly, attached to Fang Ruhu, even the artificial throat that cost eighty thousand yuan would be as worthless as the corpse.

It was a golden opportunity for Zhou Qingfeng!

He could not only be able to cross out an opposing threat but also gain some supplies at the same time.

Now that there was still a small amount of time before he would enact his plan, Zhou Qingfeng entered a ‘slacking mode’ once again as he had nothing to do. He returned to his home and found that the Guo family was packing stuff next door.

“What are you guys trying to do?” Zhou Qingfeng asked them while blocking their door.

Guo Jiaming had his hands on his waist as he directed the people from the moving company, while Yuan Mei bent her waist as she tied a pile of newspapers and magazines. There was also an old man, who collected waste products, stepping on a pile of plastic Coke bottles. After seeing Zhou Qingfeng standing at the door, the young woman threw the pile of newspapers and magazines away. She then pushed Zhou Qingfeng out of her house.

“Go away!” Yuan Mei set her jaw and said, “I know that we can’t provoke you. We’ll move away then.”

“Seriously.…” All of a sudden, Zhou Qingfeng felt worried when he saw that the young woman was moving. He felt that he had never done anything wrong, and so he did not understand why their relationship had developed such awkwardness. However, he knew that he could not stop her from moving. “Sister Yuan….”

“Stop calling me your sister, you’re just a scoundrel.” Zhou Qingfeng grabbed her hand but was immediately shaken off by her.

The few workers and waste collectors were watching their drama on the side, while Guo Jiaming was laughing behind his sleeve. However, he stopped laughing when he saw Zhou Qingfeng staring at him. He turned his body around and did not even dare to look at Zhou Qingfeng.

“Sister, why do you hate me so much? I can search in my heart and tell you that I’ve never done anything wrong to you.” Zhou Qingfeng too did not know why was he feeling worried. Perhaps Aunty Zhang was right; he should not have involved himself in their family, as it was none of his business.

However, Yuan Mei did not treat him politely. Instead, she kept saying ‘Get out’, ‘You’re just a scoundrel’, ‘Why do you keep looking for me? Can’t you see I already have a husband?’

At that moment, Zhou Qingfeng could only sigh. After around an hour, Guo Jiaming had finished packing up all the stuff he got. The Guo couple soon got on a mini truck and departed with all their belongings.

Zhou Qingfeng’s mind completely went black after witnessing the unexpected scene. He walked into the now emptied room and could not help thinking of the stupid lady who used to stay in there. He felt anxious in an inexplicable way after realizing that he could no longer meet with her.

Zhou Qingfeng usually did not have friends, as he was someone who had no presence. He was uncivilized, had no special skills, was not good in interpersonal skills, and did not earn any money even when he was doing his casual jobs. All of his past classmates were now college students, doing some sort of business, or had found a good job. In contrast, he could only nestle in his ten-square meter house and worry about his utility bills every single month.

When he occasionally met up with his past classmates, they always wore confident smiles on their faces. He, however, could only force himself to smile. He did not know how to communicate with them, and so in the course of time, he felt that he was inferior when compared to his classmates.

Zhou Qingfeng read a variety of YY novels. When the male protagonist in the novel encountered all kinds of hardships, there would always be people jumping out and humiliating the male protagonist, including disparaging and taunting him. The male protagonist would then fight back and regain his confidence.

However, when Zhou Qingfeng thought of himself, he realized that no one despised or taunted him, as no one actually knew him! Nobody would even bother to spare their effort on an ant like him.

Zhou Qingfeng always wanted to do something to gain attention from other people. He too wanted to show his ability in order to gain the recognition and respect of others. However, what could he do? It seemed that he could not do anything at all!

Zhou Qingfeng used to live like a wild dog, panicking and scurrying around the city, just to find a way to survive. All other dogs were fat and strong, and they were better than him even when just fighting for a bone.

However, when he was completely ignored by everyone else, the weak Yuan Mei, who was living next door to him, was the only one who gave him a smile, a wave, a greeting, and some comfort. It made him realize that someone in the world still knew his name. Yuan Mei was like Zhou Qingfeng’s reflection; both of them were at the bottom of the society.

After heading to the disorganized Wasteland, Zhou Qingfeng gained his own worth by daring to fight. Angie needed him, Lena needed him, Jenny needed him, and he could choose to either perform ruthless executions or be compassionate to others. He regained his confidence after experiencing this feeling of supremacy.

Hence, when returning to the space-time of 2016, Zhou Qingfeng hoped to replicate his success in Wasteland. He sold the diamonds to repay his parents' debt and stepped forward to help Yuan Mei. He hoped to show his ability to others with one sole purpose—he wanted to announce to the world that he was now completely different from the past!

That was the reason why Zhou Qingfeng helped Yuan Mei. He wanted to gain recognition from the latter. However… the more powerful he was, the more Yuan Mei felt disgusted with him. As a result, she left in the end.

The waste collector was still stomping on the soft drink cans in the empty room. He then asked Zhou QIngfeng after seeing the latter’s self-deprecation, “Hey kid, what’s going on?”

“Everything’s fine. I’m just feeling a bit sad.” Zhou Qingfeng replied in a deep tone.

“You fell in love with his wife, didn’t you?”

“Maybe.”

“Too bad she’s married though.”

“Yeah. Moreover, she doesn’t even like me at all,” Zhou Qingfeng mocked himself.

“Just find another girl then. You’re tall, and quite handsome too. As long as you know how to earn money and flirt with the ladies, finding a partner shouldn’t be too much of a challenge.”

“You’re right, it shouldn't be,” Zhou Qingfeng answered him soullessly. He walked back and forth in Yuan Mei’s room several times, before finally lying on her bed.

However, as he still seemed to be quite depressed, the waste collector then said, “I saw that young woman give an address to the worker from the moving company. I heard her saying that their new house shouldn't be too far from here.”

A thought suddenly flashed through Zhou Qingfeng’s mind. He opened his mouth as he wanted to ask the waste collector if he knew Yuan Mei’s actual address. However, after some hesitation, he gave up on his thoughts. He felt that there was no point in asking about it as the young woman did not even like him. He could still live on without the young lady anyway.

Oh, dear…. Let’s forget about it then!
