Chapter 241        Formulate

The man appeared to be a foreigner. He was tall, fat, and looked almost like a pile of meat when he walked. One can guess that he was probably a supervisor of the laboratory judging by his looks. It seemed that a squealer had snitched on Zhou Qingfeng, and as a consequence, it attracted the man’s attention.

The man who was known as Old Xu that was initially mocking Zhou Qingfeng instantly took a step backward when he saw the foreigner’s appearance. He then sighed before telling Li Mingjue, “Mingjue, just take this kid and leave. Howard’s here. He’s the school’s distinguished professor as well as the laboratory director, and I’m a mere…”

“And you’re a mere assistant professor.” The foreigner named Howard was proficient in Mandarin. He strode towards Old Xu and criticized him, “Associate Professor Xu Guoqiang, you’ve repeatedly violated the regulations of the laboratory. You even conducted experiments with irrelevant people this time around. Are you planning to cause yet another major experimental accident again?”

Old Xu’s eye was twitching, and he felt as if his spine had been ripped. He did not even have the strength to look at Howard in the eye. All he did was wave at Li Mingjue as a sign to ask her to leave.

“Wait a minute… My experiment hasn’t even started yet. How can we just leave like this?” Zhou Qingfeng was not happy about it.

“Young man, this is my laboratory.” The foreigner named Howard was very arrogant. He did not even look at Zhou Qingfeng while he was talking to him, “I’m in charge of this laboratory, and I have the right to drive anyone that violates the rules out of this place.”

There were more than ten rooms in the entire laboratory, and the room where Zhou Qingfeng was currently at was the biggest and most well-facilitated room. There were also a lot of personnel in the room, and most of them were stretching their heads out of the room, trying to enjoy the scene. However, Zhou Qingfeng did not seem to be nervous. He pointed at the test bench where Old Xu had just operated on and said, “Isn’t it clearly written on the board? Associate Professor Xu Guoqiang is the one responsible for this laboratory.”

Howard laughed once again. Old Xu then whispered in Zhou Qingfeng’s ear, “This laboratory was jointly established by Ronghua Medical University and Hopkins Medical School in the United States, all the funds are in Howard’s hands. Although I’m theoretically the one in charge of this laboratory, I’m only in charge of these few lab benches."

Zhou Qingfeng seemed to finally understand the whole situation after listening to Old Xu’s explanation. In layman’s terms, it meant that whoever had the funds was in charge of the laboratory. He threw several glances at his surroundings and found out that although the entire laboratory was about 500 to 600 square meters, Old Xu was actually in charge of mere ten square meters in front of him. He could use all the experimental equipment in the other area, but he did not have the right to manage them. One could tell that Old Xu was having a miserable career judging by the look on his face.

“But I only wanted to use your test bench. Do I still require his approval for this as well?” Zhou Qingfeng refused to leave. He even stood in front of the test bench and was ready to begin the experiment.

“Young man, stop fooling around. I’ve already said that this is my laboratory. I will not allow any……” Howard pushed Old Xu to the side as he then tried to grab Zhou Qingfeng by his shoulders.

However, Zhou Qingfeng slowly turned his head around, stared at Howard and said calmly, “White sw*ne, you better stop making me angry. I’m already trying my best to control my temper, and I hope you’ll do the same too.”

Although Zhou Qingfeng’s tone was extremely calm, his strong murderous intent could be sensed within his words. Others would usually feel that it would be best to not to offend the foreigners. However, for a guy who dared to launch a nuclear bomb towards himself and could kill thousands of people in a flash, Howard’s threat had no effect on him.

Howard was shocked on the spot and his heart even missed half a beat. He never thought that he would actually see such a strong murderous intent in one’s eyes.

After forcing Howard to step backward, Zhou Qingfeng finally started to formulate the ethidium bromide. In accordance with Xu Guoqiang's actions and his memory, he took all kinds of equipment and medicine with plastic gloves and arranged them. One should know that chemical formulations have stringent requirements for concentration and dosage. The milligram was the most basic measurement unit, and an error of one drop was more than enough to cause death.

Even though Howard had retreated in fear, he was still noisy in the background. He asked other people in the lab, “Which faculty is this student from? I have to go to his university and file a complaint. He must be punished.”

However, it was only the first time too the other personnel in the lab met Zhou Qingfeng. There were quite a few bookworms in the laboratory, but no one seemed to recognize Zhou Qingfeng. Xu Guoqiang then asked Li Mingjue, “Who is this man?”

“He’s the boyfriend of Old Feng’s daughter.” Li Mingjue did not want to tell him at first, but she could not stand it after being asked repeatedly by Xu Guoqiang. She then added, “He’s actually quite a good kid.”

Xu Guoqiang, after finding out that Zhou Qingfeng was affiliated with Feng Ruhai, instantly straightened his face “Which university did he graduate from? Who was his mentor?”

“I’m not too sure about it, but I think he once said that he was a high school graduate. I don’t know if he’s kidding though.” Li Mingjue too could not identify Zhou Qingfeng’s background.

All of a sudden, Xu Guoqiang shouted in shock, “High school?”

God, you must be kidding me! Xu Guoqiang thought that Zhou Qingfeng had a doctoral degree, a master’s degree, or even a bachelor’s degree at the very least. You… You… You’re only a high school graduate? Are you just trying to get me into trouble?

The voice made its way clear to Howard and even to the people in the entire laboratory. The foreigner felt that he had once again got the goods on Xu Guoqiang for his wrongdoings as he then criticized, “Some ridiculous things always tend to happen in this country. I just don’t understand how the hell is it possible for a high school student to actually be in a professional bio-chemical laboratory.

Xu Guoqiang, I will report the things that happened today to the school. You’ll have to take full responsibility if any issues arise from today's incident.”

Howard was just trying to find some reason to drive Xu Guoqiang out of the laboratory. However, several loud screams could be heard throughout the lab. After spending the first ten minutes for adaptation, Zhou Qingfeng began to accelerate his speed of formulating Ethidium bromide.

Other than the necessary chemical reaction time, Zhou Qingfeng’s speed in operating various equipment and obtaining various raw materials had greatly accelerated. He was quick, accurate, and error-free. For the others, this was simply beyond their imagination, as the experiment was extremely dangerous and the probability of error increased proportionally to the speed of conducting the experiment.

"What is this kid doing? Does he think that he’s in a circus? You’re not only unprofessional… You’re ridiculous! It’s not cool at all. This is a laboratory, and everyone should treat it seriously." Howard continued criticizing him.

However, Zhou Qingfeng's use of butterfly-like techniques had caused a lot of surprise and attention from the others in the laboratory.

“Has he made any mistakes?”

“I don’t think so. All his moves seem to be spot on. It looks weird because he's accelerating his speed.”

“Did anyone see how many drops of chemical substance he just poured into the tube?”

“Four drops, I did the math. He pulled it out in an extremely accurate fashion.”

“I’m afraid that even I can’t do it so quickly. He’s just too skillful to be a rookie. He’s literally god-like.”

“One could indeed save a lot of time if he can conduct experiments with this speed and accuracy!”

It took Xu Guoqiang half an hour to prepare the ethidium bromide, but Zhou Qingfeng only spent less than twenty minutes instead even though it was his first experiment. After Zhou Qingfeng placed the test tube with ten milliliters of solution onto the test tube rack, he clapped and said, "I’m still not really used to conducting an experiment, but I believe it’ll be much better next time."

What the f*ck! Everyone in the laboratory instantly cursed in silence, You’ve been conducting the experiment at such an incredible speed even though it’s just your first time, but now you’re here claiming that you’re still not really used to it? What are we then? Idiot sandwiches?

Although Zhou Qingfeng's entire experiment process was smooth and even Xu Guoqiang was shocked by him, Howard felt uneasy. The latter coldly asked, "What crap are you actually formulating?”

“0.1 milligrams per milliliter of ethidium bromide." Zhou Qingfeng was confident in his own experimental results. Although it was just a simple drug formulation, it was extremely helpful for him to continue his path of pursuing biochemical knowledge.

"I don't believe that this rookie can actually come up with the correct drug formulation." Howard then pulled over a lab personnel in a mad manner and ordered, "Go and check if the concentration of the drug is correct.

Let me tell you guys something…… Science is a field that placed great emphasis on professionalism. Even the most basic operation belongs to the result of countless practice by many western scientists over hundreds of years. Any random changes will produce unpredictable errors. You guys should also understand that..."

Howard gave a long lecture as an effort of showing everyone his power in the laboratory. Soon, the lab personnel successfully detected the concentration of the drug, as Howard then asked, “What is the result of the test? Just look at the way he conducted the experiment… There's no way he could carry out the experiment successfully. If the experiment turns out to be flawless, I’ll drink the entire tube of drugs.”

“Oh, eh, eh....” The lab personnel, who was ordered to test the drug, stuttered for quite a long time. However, he handed the ethidium bromide test tube over to Howard in the end and said, “I guess you have no choice but to drink it then.”
