James' seemed to be cursed to watch all that he valued burn away, it began with his house that contained all his material possessions, yet he managed to keep on going after that knowing that while he may own nothing, yet he still had his mind. Unfortunately not long after that was taken from him as well.
In his final moments James realised there was nothing he could do, so he became eerily calm, and his mind entered a state of replaying everything he had experienced in his life. The further in his life he got the more repulsed he was by what he saw, after seeing himself as a child interested in the world, learning all that he could until surpassing the knowledge level of what his school could teach him, so he decided to leave at age ten. This is when he decided to diversify what he knew and learnt everything outside of what school could teach him, and for the next 12 years, he did just that.
Every day all he would do is clean himself, perform whatever bodily functions that were needed and then read until he couldn't focus his eyes any more, he had experimented with various study drugs to maintain his focus for as long as possible. After a while he found himself addicted to amphetamines for a time before his parents forced him into rehab. After 4 months of treatment, he found himself better and upon regulating his eating and sleeping cycles he was able to maintain his focus for long times and felt healthy for the most part.
He was able to keep up his healthy lifestyle for a few years until unfortunately his parents had been on their way home from dinner and gotten in a car accident, after finding out that his father had been drunk behind the wheel he was left with nothing. The victims' family had sued on a wrongful death claim and when they won they were entitled to most of James' parent's estate leading James to leave his house and find some work.
From what was left of his parent's money along with his extended family pooling some money for him to help get by, he was able to pay for his parent's burial and tombstone for a joint grave. Unfortunately, it left him severely low on funds, so he had to get by playing the odds in casinos and card counting in blackjack, after a few months of this he had amassed some funds but had also got himself banned from casinos countrywide.
No longer having casinos as a viable source of income he saw an ad recruiting for a game show. After exaggerating his tragic backstory, he was accepted to the show and managed to win first place to set him a nice amount of funds. After setting himself up in a house and buying some rare books he always wanted to read but never had the chance before, he settled down for the next 20 years, and you know the rest from there.
It was safe to say throughout his life he had been a complete social outcast with little to no human contact outside of being bullied in school until he left, and meeting some people in casinos who he failed to keep in touch with. He had never been in love and never even lost his virginity, in the eyes of everyone around him he was a complete waste of space.
'Oh, I see. I really wasted my life miserably, all this knowledge and for what? So I know more than the average person? Bullshit. There are teenagers out there that have experienced more and are more capable than me in most ways. What use is all this knowledge if I can't even put it to good use, how could I have been so blind all my pitiful life? I swear to whatever's out there if you give me one more chance I refuse to take the same weak stance on everything. I will use my potential to the fullest to show everyone out there what I am capable of!'
