"James, thank you for not killing my idiot son, I promise you he will be dealt with severely. Now, why did you come here to see me, our meeting isn't arranged for another two days?" Merchant Fletcher gave James a warm smile he knew James could have taken his son's life had he used the sharp end of the spear.

"The reason I came to see you today is about this; I wanted to know if you had any contacts in the military, the higher up, the better." James went to the table where the cloth wrapped spear had been placed and unwrapped it to show to Mr Fletcher.

"There isn't really a structured military in this kingdom. Generally, in times of war, the king would call upon the nobles to fight for him. I may be able to organise a showing for you and invite most of the nobles in the outer district and maybe even some from the inner district, it does seem like you have an interesting weapon there. You haven't been milling about these last few days have you?"

Mr Fletcher was impressed with how fast James had progressed he had gone from selling swords through a game in the marketplace to organising meetings with nobles in less than half a week; he was indeed a prodigy in the art of business.

"If you could get me that meeting it would be greatly appreciated, do you think I could borrow about 10 of your guards until the meeting?"

"You really are asking a lot of me young man, but I suppose I've made enough off of you already. The patent office should be ready two days earlier than expected, by the way, it truly doesn't take much to set up. I also managed to get the support of the Kingdom so they will take patents as evidence in cases of someone's intellectual property being stolen."

It really was fantastic luck to meet Mr Fletcher that day; he was one of few people that had the connections necessary to make the patent office a success. He had his fingers in so many pies that no matter what he needed to do he was able to meet the correct people to make it happen.

"That's brilliant, then allow me to apply for the first patent, this right here is called a spear and costs the fraction of what a sword does, it is also made of the same metal as those swords but of better quality. I should be able to make about twenty per day minimum quite soon. The reason I ask to borrow their guards is I would like them to practice with this to give a practical display at the meeting with the nobles."

After talking the finer details and promising to give Mr Fletcher enough spears to kit out his guards at the cost of the material only the meeting was set for five days from then.

"WHERE IS THAT BASTARD!"

James only heard that on his way out and couldn't help but smile at the implication of that line.

With his bank balance still sitting there, James felt his PTM burning a hole in his pocket, so he headed to the Carpenter he had gotten the spear handles from and straight up paid him 1 Cedi to purchase the business from him, he then instructed him to start making the spear handles to the same specifications he had requested before.

He spent the rest of his day sorting out a supplier of ash wood for his handles; he wasn't able to go into an exclusive supply agreement this time as they honestly had too large of a volume of timber for James to handle at the moment.

After that was all sorted, he went back to the blacksmiths and gave Tobias designs for a new set of tools for him and his apprentices to be made out of steel, with the better tools it would make it a lot easier for them to work the steel in the future increasing their output of spearheads.

Feeling he had accomplished enough, for now, James decided to go and check out one final thing for himself, which was the achievement he hadn't completed yet, to buy a house.

The only problem he had was there was no central area to buy property, he had to find someone selling their house actively, eventually he found himself a decent sized house with a large courtyard that couldn't be seen from the outside, feeling this was perfect for him he decided to buy it for 125 Leones. It was nothing spectacular but the most essential part for James was the closed-off courtyard.

After a day full of work James found himself exhausted, so he just flopped onto his new bed and dreamed the night away.
