"Please don't kill me, look I managed to get a crystal, you need me! On top of that, you wouldn't kill your own family would you" The man squealed through the pummeling he was receiving from James' fists.
When James heard how pathetic the man sounded he didn't have it in him to even touch him anymore, he merely wished the man would disappear, so it wasn't his problem anymore.
He couldn't help but feel thankful for the system for making it possible for him to maintain a decent mindset when he should have been freaking out. Even if it was the one who started the situation, James couldn't help but feel that without the system he would have already killed this man he refused to acknowledge as his father.
Thinking back on what he said James couldn't help but get excited about having finally found a magic crystal, regardless of the situation all of his efforts had been for this moment.
"What element is it?" The man stopped covering his face seeing James had let up on his savage beating.
"I was told it was a fire crystal, but I had no way to confirm it actually was, I also managed to get used crystals for water, air, and Earth. I found where an energy crystal is located but have yet to get my hands on it." The man told everything he knew to James for fear of being beaten again, he didn't have the energy to defend himself still.
James hurriedly went and grabbed the crystals from the man while he could and left him on the ground, as he walked away he left one sentence "You are not my father nor will you ever be, the deal is still there, I want the crystals if I get them your brother lives."
James felt that he had probably done enough to have avenged the previous owner of his body, he didn't want to do something stupid like killing the man because that would lead to some problems for him later on for sure. The kingdom may accept him cutting his hand off but nothing more. If the word got out, all James would have to do is tell the kingdom that he had been abandoned by the man as a baby and that his mother has been killed to get away with it.
James just headed back to his room while the Noble hurried away with his life mostly intact, he would surely make up some story about how he had lost his hand.
"Go and hire some more guards for me, at least another ten, the best ones you can find regardless of cost. If any of you men are willing to, then sign these contracts and follow me from now on." All of the mercenaries had heard every word said between the two men and knew his secret, they were shocked that the youth hadn't killed the noble, his father, in a fit of rage, all of them were sure that they would have done it, unable to hold themselves back at all.
Every single one of them decided to sign the contract knowing that their new boss was going to be able to take them to heights they wouldn't have been able to reach otherwise. After each one of them had signed the contract, they sent a man off to go and recruit the best men he could find.
'Okay, let's just forget everything that happened earlier, it's time to gain control of my first element, what a great one to start with!" After James had closed up the holes in his knuckles and applied a healing ointment he had bought from the market feeling it would come in handy he moved on to the crystal.
Thankfully he had asked Tobias the smith to draw the small amount of spirit metal he had gotten into a wire a while ago in preparation for finding his first crystal.
'Okay, let's do this' James had no idea how this was going to feel, but he wrapped the crystal with the wire in the same style he had seen in the book from the library. He made sure to cover it as tightly as possible to get the maximum effect out of this crystal, also if it was going to hurt he wanted to make sure it hurt for the least amount of time possible.
He began to sense heat collecting in the gap between the wire ends and fearing that he would waste any of the element inside the crystal he moved the ends of the wires to the marks the system had highlighted on his stomach. After the ends of the wire touched his stomach he began to feel something changing in his stomach, it almost felt like a muscle constantly contracting, after that feeling lasted for about another 30 seconds James felt a feeling he could only relate to his insides tearing.
After this tearing happened he felt a massive amount of heat pouring into him, he could only assume it was flowing into his energy pool, after 20 seconds of this feeling the heat began to dissipate, it seemed he had drained the crystal dry of the elemental power stored inside it.
James pulled the wire away from his stomach and saw the crystal seemed to have lost its sheen and now looked incredibly dull.
'How come I don't feel any different? Did I mess up the absorption or something?'
James was worried that he had somehow been tricked by the noble and was fretting over it until he started to notice small amounts of red particles flowing towards him from a burning torch nearby. He was sure he hadn't seen them before, and he now realised that his body was quietly undergoing changes to acclimate itself to the new element, the energy from the crystal had been used for this process.
