James thought about everything he had experienced so far with the crystals and knew they wouldn't passively take in the element particles, he needed something to collect them first, so there was a higher concentration. Naturally, his first thought for this was the spirit wire. He shaped the wire into a coil and tried attaching it onto the crystal to collect the particles and inject them into the crystal, unfortunately, he didn't get anywhere with that, so he had to go back to inspecting the crystal.

Hearing this James was shocked as this crystal didn't resemble quartz all that much, the crystal was opaque and matched the colour of its affinity; it was a glowing red colour.
To save James from his time he had inspected the crystal and got nowhere the system issued a timely notification. After seeing this James decided to see if a regular quartz crystal could have elemental particles flow through it, taking out the crystal he had kept from the trinkets he had dismantled he pushed elemental particles through it. He found them following the edge of the inside of the crystal and collecting at the tip where they would gather and exit the crystal in a line pointing out of it.
Seeing this James straight away began to set up a small construct trying to use this to focus the elemental particles into the fire crystal using the quartz one. First, he built a raised platform over the fire, high enough that the flames wouldn't touch it, yet close enough that it was in range to collect the elemental particles.
After he had the raised platform, he took his coil he made from the spirit wire and sat it on the platform. He used the wire to create a support for the quartz crystal with the movement of the elemental particles moving back down towards the coil; he then placed the fire crystal in the centre of the loop directly below the quartz crystal.
He hoped that he would be able to focus the particles into the fire crystal and any that weren't able to get into the crystal would be returned to the circuit inside the coil. Gradually the power of the coil would build up as it collected more elemental particles from the fire below it.
James decided to leave this experiment overnight to see how well it worked as it was already showing some promise after he injected some elemental particles into the system to begin the flow of the energy. The beam was gradually getting bigger the more he injected into the spirit wire, and there was no power escaping from the system.
He made a quick round trip to his warehouse to grab enough charcoal bricks to last the night, while he was there he made sure that enough had been transferred to the store to stock the section allocated to it and apparently it was completely stocked. Once he was home, and all the bricks were burning he called it a night, it took him a while to get to sleep due to his excitement of everything that would happen the next day.

The second James woke up he ran to the back garden to look at his experiment and saw that the crystal had regained its glow, but there was also a massive amount of energy that had been collected and was still flowing through the wire. It must have been fully saturated and wouldn't receive any more, the beam emanating through the crystal was bigger than the crystal itself!
James walked up and decided just to try retrieving the crystal with his hand but instantly he felt the power from the beam begin to infiltrate his hand and work its way to his energy pool, it gained a large amount of charge instantaneously. Seeing this James got an idea, evidently if he wanted to expand his energy pool he would have to train it like any muscle, so from that idea he began to take in the energy from the beam until his energy pool was almost bursting and then would practice with it to form variously shaped flames.
One thing he had been interested in trying was tucking his thumb into his fist and having a thin dagger made of flames come out the tip of it, that way he could use it as a knife and maintain control of it for accuracy; it would also be utilised as a weapon when he needed to.
This ended up working really well, and he noticed that he would get resistance when cutting through something, this gave him the idea that he may be able to use the flames to climb, but when he tested that theory he found that he wasn't capable of keeping his flames together well enough to lift his weight.
This lead James to the conclusion that he wasn't actually controlling the fire itself but the particles within the fire and was maintaining the structure between them. When he began thinking of the flames as a physical structure instead of some kind of moveable liquid his control increased by leaps and bounds. After trying again he found that he could now create chains of fire to form a sort of whip made of flames.
After experimenting for a while, James completely drained his energy pool and prepared to take in the energy from the crystal, when he began taking in power from the crystal he felt a definite improvement in the quality of the particles he absorbed.
James would have liked to have left the crystal to charge for the rest of the day but he didn't want to risk it being stolen at all, so he collected his whole setup back leaving no evidence of it having been there in the first place.
After preparing himself he headed to the grand opening of his store, it was finally time for his effort to come to fruition.
