After having a quick nap to recover from staying up for the entire night James was ready to practice his combat abilities, he had left one of the more trustworthy guards he had to funnel more charcoal bricks into the furnace when needed.

This way he could have as much energy collected as possible, of course, he didn't have to worry about the guard being trustworthy since they had signed a spirit contract. They couldn't even see what they were heating, but James still had to err on the side of caution lest he be caught out and the guard somehow made off with his entire capital.

[System reminds host of depleted crystals acquired from noble.]

'HOLY SHIT, why didn't you remind me sooner?!'

[System has no babysitter protocol, host gained the crystals and failed to utilise them.]

'Ugh, whatever. At least I know now, Jesus. Everything has been so busy these days that I entirely forgot about them. Where did I put them again?'

[Host stored crystals in the bedroom floor safe.]

'Thanks, I guess I should see if I can recharge them, although water I have a good enough idea what about Earth? Do I shove it in the ground or what, there must be some kind of essence to it that is absorbed. Maybe fertility is a measurement of the usefulness of the dirt, couldn't hurt to try it I guess. Although all the land around here is completely barren, so I guess I'll need some fertiliser to test that.'

'Well I guess for the water crystal I will need to constantly pump water which might be kind of difficult right now, although I could use the ventilation from the fire to spin a turbine to pump water, that could actually work pretty well. I suppose I can use the ash from the fire for my fertiliser as well, this is all coming together quite nicely isn't it.'

'Time to get to work I guess.'

Keeping in mind that he only had two days before he had to leave to take the entrance exam for his school James headed off to talk to Kaine and Tobias about his project.

From Tobias, James asked for a substantial length of metal shaped like a screw. James was planning on utilising an Archimedean screw pump to pump water upwards and then let it fall back down to a basin to get pumped again.

From Kaine, he needed him to design the part of the system that would utilise the vent of the fire to turn the screw and pump the water up.

Kaine and Tobias didn't disappoint James' expectations and were able to finish the necessary work within a day, and after putting it together, it worked with minimal problems.

After assembling and testing James ran into a problem though, the water was pumped over the crystal and then drained back to the basin at the bottom. After a short while, James noticed that the water felt like it had lost something. After focusing he could sense that the water was now drained of the element particle that should be held in it.

'It seems I'm either going to have to replace the water regularly or find a different way to recharge the element particles in the reservoir. There must be some way for me to change element particles from one form to another. It happened when I first absorbed the air, so it is possible.

If they can change between forms that means either they all have the same base makeup or they have a state between changes that can be used to switch between types of elements. I'm probably leaning towards the former one though.'

[Nature of element particles is likely shared as energy, all elements are formed of energy so can be transformed to or from energy. Surety of statement: 78%]

'Well, I guess I can try and transform some of my spare fire power to energy.'

After thinking of this James began to look inwardly at his fire element, he transferred a lump of the element particles to his hand and started to analyse it.

After transferring some fire element particles to his eyes James began to see the nature of the fire element, it contained large amounts of energy but in turn was hard to control, whereas the air element didn't hold as much power but was much easier to tame.

After practising his control for a while, James was able to isolate a single fire element particle. With this he began to try breaking down the balance of the particle, he was working along the mindset of fission where after splitting the particle the energy would be released.

After straining himself for what felt like hours James felt something give and was suddenly hurled back by a massive wall of force that had slammed on his chest, it seemed that the particle held a lot more energy than James had initially thought.

After getting up James saw himself in the reflection of his water reservoir, he saw his hair was blasted entirely back, and the end of his eyelashes had been singed.

'Well, that was progress at least, now I know the energy can be released just not easily. The crystals must be a great receptacle of energy, so surely I will be able to use them to absorb the energy that is released.'

With this thought James began to build an array of regular quartz crystals, he hoped to be able to focus the released energy as he had done with the fire energy.

With his apparatus set up, James took a few steps back and began the process of breaking apart another particle, this time he found that it was a lot easier and he was able to maintain control farther from his body.

After he was able to split the particle, James saw the energy that hit the crystals was focused to the middle of the array where they were all focused and pointed on his spare air crystal. He didn't want to run this test with his only water crystal and risk losing it.

Retrieving the air crystal, James found that it had gained a significant amount of charge, nowhere near full capacity but it was a notable amount nonetheless.

With his initial testing completed James decided to move onto the real thing and after about twenty explosions in the yard, the water crystal was fully charged. While this method was a lot easier than naturally collecting the power, James noticed that the purity seemed to be a bit lower than usual.

Thankfully he would be able to use the power to awaken that element, but it would need to be later refined with some higher quality element particles to gain full control over the element.

After some deliberation James decided to charge the Earth crystal but not absorb it yet, he first wanted to make sure that he balanced out all the energies in his energy pool after consuming the water crystal. He had some worries that if the powers became imbalanced that his energy pool would either collapse or explode, neither which were outcomes he wanted.
