Sister-in-law Qi has worked for so many years  and was very dedicated to her job. Except for the time when her husband was injured, she hasn’t taken any vacations at all. But this day, for the sake of her daughter’s school transfer, she took a day off and sent her child to a new school. She watched her daughter sit down timidly. The gentle female teacher introduced their new classmate with a smile, and the children around her applauded for her. She felt worried but also relieved.

Before picking a school, she had a hard time finding connections on her father’s side, the headmaster of the school where Qi Jiayu had transferred.

The headmaster told her that the teachers in this class were the best-tempered teachers in their school, which made Sister-in-law Qi feel at ease and at the same time made her recall the old teacher, Teacher Wei.

When her daughter entered the school, it was said that this Teacher Wei was the most good-tempered teacher in the school.

According to Jingshu, it was Teacher Wei who first found out that Jiayu was being bullied by her classmates, and it was his suggestion to transfer to another school.

He was a good teacher, but unfortunately the school wouldn’t do anything about it.

Sister-in-law Qi took a rare leave of absence, and returned in the middle of the afternoon. Today, Qi Jingshu was supposed to be at home, but a company called her to go for an interview, so she went to the school instead.

Thinking that her sister-in-law was busy looking for a job and cooking for them these days, Sister-in-law Qi went to the market and chose some of Qi Jiayu’s favorite dishes, ready to show her skills tonight.

While she was walking deep into the vegetable market, she was choosing vegetables and was about to buy some roast chicken that Qi Jiayu liked, only to find that there was only one left in the booth, and that remaining one was currently held by a handsome man with a gentle smile.

“Thank you.”

Wei Mingyan paid for the item, took the bag from the cashier, and walked on. He didn’t notice the sister-in-law of the person he liked watching him behind his back.

Sister-in-law Qi continued to look at the slender handsome man politely thanking the cashier and leaving, before she proceeded with picking and choosing her groceries. She looked gentle and sighed, a man like Teacher Wei could cook.

He’s good-tempered, can cook, and she wondered if he had a girlfriend.

Qi Jiayu just transferred schools, and Wei Mingyan continued to move forward. Sister-in-law Qi felt embarrassed and couldn’t manage to come over and greet him. There was no roast chicken left anyways, so she went home.

She also remembered in her heart that Qi Jingshu hadn’t bought new clothes for a long time. Her sister-in-law was good at everything, but she was just too harsh on herself. As a young girl, how could she not dress well?

Thinking like this, Sister-in-law Qi turned to the clothes shop and chose some dresses for Qi Jingshu.

When she went back after buying good things with satisfaction, she walked in the alley leading to her home, and saw several teenagers with colorful hair, laughing and walking onwards with rods in their hands.

Sister-in-law Qi was dressed in ordinary clothes today, and she was carrying food and clothes she had just bought in bags. The few hoodlums didn’t even realize that this person was actually an officer, and didn’t hide their ill intent in the slightest as they walked forward.

“When no one else is around, I’ll yell and hold that guy down, got it?”

“Don’t worry big brother, don’t you know how the brothers work? We’re guaranteed to beat the shit out of that bastard.”

Sister-in-law Qi’s eyes narrowed, looking at the guys talking to each other and moving forward.

She quietly followed the few people and watched them closely.

These people stay up and drink all night. They looked like they were intoxicated. In fact, their physical capabilities would have already been hindered, but the sticks in their hands still remained a little troublesome.

“Here we go. In front! Go!”

She was calculating whether she could beat them or scare the people away with her police identity, but then noticed the lead punk’s eyes get excited as he rushed over with a rod in his hand.

Sister-in-law Qi was a distance around the corner from them, and could only hear a man’s voice from up ahead, “What are you doing!?”

“What do you think?! Bastard, I’ll let you know what it means to offend the wrong people.”

Wei Mingyan took a step back, as if stumbling over a near-fall, but his hands quietly went behind his back, ready to call the police.

Seeing that the person in front of him was indeed appearing as civil and weak as the information given by his employer, the few hoodlums became more courageous.

“Beat him!”

As they spat out harsh words, the few upstarts were about ready to start a fight. Suddenly, the  ordinary woman who was just passing by rushed over nimbly, and before they could react, they felt pain in their legs before realizing that they were already on the ground.

“You, you bitch…”

Sister-in-law Qi lowered her eyes in a cold, stern voice, “Police! You are under arrest for assault and injuring people, and you will come with me to the station…”

“She’s a cop! Run!!!”

Before Sister-in-law Qi finished speaking, the expression of the man lying on the ground, who was spitting harsh words earlier, changed. He quickly climbed up on his hands and knees and took the lead in running away.

The younger brothers who acted arrogantly earlier too even ran away with their own boss, leaving only Sister-in-law Qi, whose expression was still a little blank and who hadn’t even finished her sentence.

She usually faced vicious criminals and was already ready to fight a dozen men or so, but these people actually ran away as soon as they heard she was an officer?

As the multicolored-hair upstarts scurried away, Sister-in-law Qi moved and turned to the man leaning against the corner, “Are you okay… Teacher Wei?”

The pale, handsome man reluctantly stood up against the wall, and after seeing who had saved him, he looked startled, and his eyes, which had just been calm, were filled with defeat. “Thank you, Jiayu’s Mother.”

As soon as he finished his sentence, he stumbled and slipped again.

Sister-in-law Qi thought that him falling again was more than just a coincidence, and went to calm her daughter’s terrified teacher. “Are you okay, Teacher Wei?”

“It’s fine… it’s fine. ” Wei Mingyan reluctantly smiled and waved his hand. “I just fell over.”

As soon as he said this, as if he had just thought of something, he rushed to pick up the bag that had fallen on the floor earlier, nervously checking to make sure the roasted chicken inside was alright. Seeing that it was still intact, he then looked relieved.

In response to Sister-in-law Qi’s question about whether he’d had any recent grudges against anyone, the mild-mannered, handsome man also looked confused, saying he really couldn’t remember offending anybody.

The pair then walked together on the same road.

Sister-in-law Qi was a little sympathetic to the weak scholar in front of her.

Look at him, so frightened. They’ve been traveling for this long, but he was still a sweaty mess.

It turned out her Father was right, the ones with knowledge were usually pretty timid.

It was a coincidence that she met Teacher Wei at the market, and surprisingly, they were still on the same way back. As she was about to arrive at home, Sister-in-law Qi was about to say goodbye, but then asked, “Teacher Wei, where are you going? I’ll give you a ride if it’s not too far? That group shouldn’t be coming back.”

The gentle teacher’s freshly wiped forehead was sweating again, and as he pulled out a tissue to wipe the sweat, his eyes became even more guilty, and he fidgeted and said, “That, I…”

As they were staring at each other, the door opened and Qi Jingshu, after returning from the interview, was carrying the trash out to throw it outside.

She saw Wei Mingyan first, and her smile hadn’t fully blossomed before she caught sight of Sister-in-law Qi.

“Sister-in-law, you’re back…”

It seems like she hasn’t told her brother and sister-in-law that she’s in a relationship with Mingyan…

Although the two said they had broken up, this time the small flame of love between them was lit up again. One thing led to another, and today they were talking about how she likes the roast chicken from that market, the cakes from that place. Mingyan had insisted on coming to see her, and now, he actually met up with her sister-in-law….

While thinking about how to introduce him, Qi Jingshu caught sight of Wei Mingyan’s hand, oozing with blood with his sleeve unkempt and rolled up. Her look immediately changed, dropping the trash and grabbing his hand.

“How did this happen? Why is it still bleeding?”

“It’s nothing, I scraped it on a wall.” The man reassured his girlfriend as his eyes turned back to Sister-in-law Qi who was looking over at him stiffly, “Jingshu, your sister-in-law is watching.”

Qi Jingshu moved stiffly, holding Wei Mingyan’s hand and slowly turning her head. She smiled beamingly at Sister-in-law Qi as she said, “Sister-in-law, let’s go into the house first.”

She hadn’t dared to tell her brother and sister-in-law that she was with Jiayu’s teacher when she was dating him before, for a good many reasons. Most important of those reasons was that Wei Mingyan was a little too old for her.

Wei Mingyan’s age was considered young amongst a bunch of teachers in the school, and he himself seemed to have grown up with style against all odds. With his good looks, basically no one made fun of his age.

However, ever since Old Lady Jin vainly tried to get her to marry her son who was nine years older than Qi Jingshu, Qi Jingye was disgusted and told his sister countless times that she should never find an older partner in the future, so Jingshu was afraid that her brother would faint from anger.

Regardless, Qi Jingshu also misunderstood Jingye’s intentions.

Her brother was talking about people like Old Lady Jin’s son. It’s also no wonder that he didn’t have a girlfriend when he was already that old but still thought about young girls everyday.

Without considering the fact that Qi Jingshu misunderstood the situation, she told Wei Mingyan about her circumstances, intending to gradually make her brother accept her ‘older’ boyfriend.

Then, both misunderstood.

Sister-in-law Qi went inside as she arrived to pour tea, while looking a little puzzled on her way in. Why did she keep thinking that her sister-in-law’s current boyfriend, Teacher Wei, was looking at her with a bit of fear in his eyes?

“Your Sister-in-Law won’t hit me, would she?” The first time he met her, that person kicked over five people in a single move, Wei Mingyan carefully leaned over to Qi Jingshu and asked her, “She hit five out of a dozen people just now, and if she hits me, you’re going to have to stop her.”

“What are you thinking about? Why would my sister-in-law hit you?!”

Qi Jingshu could not help but bring out a smile on her face as she rarely saw the man look this scared and wimpy. “As long as you don’t do anything wrong, my sister-in-law won’t hit anyone.”

Speaking of which, Wei Mingyan immediately remembered the roast chicken he had been taking good care of and opened the bag he had been carrying, “See, the roast chicken that you like.”

“You had to make a scene when visiting me, just to deliver this?”

Qi Jingshu’s eyes flashed with emotion, carefully holding the medicine on the man’s hand, “Why did you scrape your arm so badly, how did you get it?”

“It’s okay, I fell and slipped again when I grabbed the wall.”

The handsome man smiled at her, not mentioning the fact that he had almost been beaten up earlier.

Sister-in-law Qi quietly hid at the back of the house and watched the two of them silently, nodding inwardly as she saw Teacher Wei look at her sister-in-law with tenderness in his eyes.

Although Qi Jingshu was already a woman of her own, and that she as a sister-in-law shouldn’t interfere too much, she herself watched her little sister-in-law grow up from a little girl. When Jingshu was forced by Old Lady Jin to marry into her family, Qi Jingshu grasped her hand as it shook with helplessness and desperation. Despite that, Jingshu truly had the intention of giving herself to the Old Lady’s son, not out of fear towards the Old Lady, but for sickly Jiayu at the time who needed money to save her life.

Such a nice girl, of course she’d have to find out what she would be doing for the rest of her life.

After brewing the tea, Sister-in-law Qi went to the courtyard with a smile on her face.

“How old is Teacher Wei this year?”

It’s coming… it’s coming… it’s really coming!

Qi Jingshu was a little worried, but the man who had just said he was scared straightened his back and said in a clear voice, “Four years older than Jingshu.”

Nonsense, it’s obviously five years older!

Looking at the man who was lying without a change in his face, Qi Jingshu lowered her head and pretended not to know anything as she continued to put medicine on his wounds.

“Do you have any brothers or sisters in your family?”

Sister-in-law Qi had no memory of the age problem she and her husband had told her sister-in-law about, and after that it was her turn to ask other questions.

“No, I’m an only child.”

“Ohh, may I ask…”

Qi Jingshu was almost surprised at her sister-in-law’s attitude.

That’s not what she and her brother said back then when they were drunk.

Was it…?

Her eyes turned to the face of the man who was looking calm and answering her sister-in-law’s questions.

Is it because he’s too handsome?

It must be said that Mingyan was really handsome. Not only his looks, even his temperament was so refined, one could tell from a glance that he was a person with a good temper. That day when he disgraced the mother and child pair, he really shocked Qi Jingshu.

As she watched, she realized that something was wrong. Wei Mingyan’s expression was calm and his face was normal, but his good-looking eyes with long eyelashes blinked too frequently.

Is that… his nervous tic?

She felt like a whole new world about her lover was just discovered by her. Her fingers grazed the man’s hand, and sure enough, it was slightly damp from cold sweat.

“I expect to buy a house at the end of this year, and my savings is now enough for the down payment…” Suddenly touched by the person beside him, Wei Mingyan subconsciously paused , blinked a little nervously, and continued talking to the somewhat confused Sister-in-law Qi. “The down payment is definitely enough, but where the house would be purchased hasn’t been decided yet. “

The hand being touched, however, clasped quietly and hid Qi Jingshu’s fingertips in the palm of his hand.

Qi Jingshu looked startled and, with rare shyness in her heart, pulled her fingers out and proceeded to apply the medicine for Wei Mingyan.

The more Sister-in-law Qi listened, the more she felt that the person facing her was reliable.

He is a teacher and has a proper job.

A little older in age, but not much older.

Has a deposit and can buy a house straight after getting married.

And most importantly, the way he looked at her sister-in-law, was simply full of love and tenderness.

Of course, the aesthetics are still there.

As a crime-fighter with a high level of strength, Sister-in-law Qi still wants her sister-in-law’s boyfriend to be a man who could protect her.

Can Wei Mingyan, who was so weak that he was so scared that he could fall down twice at the sight of a hoodlum, really protect her fragile sister-in-law?

Sister-in-law Qi still harbored such doubts.

But it had to be said that the polite, handsome, and courteous man had managed to get her to give in on this requirement of strength.

He is a little soft, but that’s okay. If they do encounter some trouble, there’s still herself and Jingye, isn’t there?

Giving her future brother-in-law a high score of ninety-five in her heart, Sister-in-law Qi chuckled and began to get ready to cook.

Of course, she had to be the one to cook dinner so the two little lovers could have some time together.

Once Sister-in-law Qi went out of sight, Wei Mingyan exhaled heavily, his face no longer the gentle and calm look he had just purposefully worn earlier.

“I just saw your sister-in-law and that’s why I fell over in fear.”

Qi Jingshu looked a little curiously at the direction her sister-in-law had just left. “Is my sister-in-law that scary? You even got scared and fell, don’t worry, she’s nice and won’t hit you.”

“I’m not afraid of her hitting me.” Wei Mingyan said. “I’m afraid that if I don’t behave well in front of her, she won’t let me be with you anymore.”

Qi Jingshu’s hand, which was packing up the medicine box, went down, and her heart seemed to tremble at the man’s words, “Who… who is with you?! I wasn’t with you in the first place.”

Even though she said that, her heart still felt a little bit sweet.

“Aren’t we together now?” The man smiled and took her hand, “You saw your sister-in-law asking me about buying a house? When are we going to have the wedding?”

“Why are you always such a rogue! Who promised to marry you?”

Qi Jingshu blushed and tried to pull her hand away, but Wei Mingyan held on tight to keep her from doing so.

While the two were flirting and the atmosphere was building up, a discordant voice sounded out of nowhere.

“No shame, hitting on a man in broad daylight!”

Old Lady Jin carried the vegetables with a scowl on her wrinkled face as she looked at the two people in the courtyard.

After she said that, she suddenly remembered something and looked around to make sure the murderous witch wasn’t there, and her courage grew a little stronger.

“No wonder you seduced my son and hung on to him, you’ve been hooking up with someone else again.”

Old Lady Jin swept a glance at the gentle Wei Mingyan, and after deciding in her mind that the young man had little fighting ability, she continued. “Young man, you have to be careful, Qi Jingshu this woman is a vixen, at a young age she seduced my son, and also strung my family along, wanting money to marry. You shouldn’t fall for it. She’s already given her body to my son.”

Without any shame at all in spouting lies that she made up, Old Lady Jin proudly quirked the corners of her deflated mouth, already imagining the scene where Qi Jingshu was dumped by the young man in front of her.

If she doesn’t marry her son, she shouldn’t get married at all!

“You! You’re talking nonsense!!!”

The sweetness that had just risen in her heart was interrupted by these words, and Qi Jingshu was literally about to cry with anger.

At the same time, she was a little worried that Mingyan might actually be angry with her because of that comment.

Wei Mingyan let go of Qi Jingshu’s hand, and just as her eyes reddened sharply and she looked incredulously at her lover, she saw the man pick up a hoe from the yard and weigh it in his hand, looking over his shoulder at Old Lady Jin, who was standing in the doorway.

“Do you know what slander is, Maam?”

“According to the provisions of our country, the deliberate fabrication and distribution of fictitious information which is sufficient to degrade the personality of another person, or to destroy his or her reputation, and which is of a serious nature, is defined as defamation. You claim that my girlfriend seduced your son, which is a false fact, and that my girlfriend was with your son, which is called slander.”

“Why are you saying things that’s damaging to someone’s reputation? You see you’re so old, you can’t even hide the ugliness on your face with all the creases, and you can see what your son looks like. My girlfriend is such a beautiful person, but with your son?”

“Hah!” He laughed as if thinking of something funny and continued, “I don’t know if you’ve ever heard the saying that a mangy toad wants to eat swan meat, but I think it’s quite applicable when placed here.”

(TNote: A toad wanting to eat swan meat = Someone ugly lusting after someone beautiful)

Old Lady Jin glared at him, she had never read a book, but she had heard this phrase before, when her hands trembled with anger, she pointed at the handsome man in front of her who looked like he couldn’t utter a single swear word, “You, you dare to curse my son?!”

“Eh-yo, why wouldn’t I dare?”

Wei Mingyan laughed with a cough and continued, “And there’s a word for it, a coupling, which also suits you quite well.”

“There’s another word for an inherent narcissism, tsk tsk tsk…” he shook his head, his expression regretful, “and that word just wouldn’t fit you, too well.”

Sister-in-law Qi was feverishly stir-frying vegetables when she suddenly heard what sounded like Old Lady Jin’s voice outside and immediately remembered that she had forgotten to close the courtyard door.

Now only Jingshu and Teacher Wei were left in the courtyard. Both of them were soft, what if they were bullied?

She even took the ladle and ran out, but as soon as she did, she heard the handsome looking man talking in a warm voice.

It was like he was giving a lecture, without any impatience but just pure logic, “Are you going to hit me, Maam? I’ll block it with my hands but never hit back.”

“I’m a teacher, I use these hands to correct homework. If you hurt my hands, I’ll take you to court. I’m paid 8,000 a month, not counting the school subsidy. I won’t be able to be a teacher with crippled hands, and my monthly salary multiplied by the number of years I can live in the future, even if I only have fifty years left to live, that’s 480 thousand yuan, I don’t know if you can afford to pay for it even if you had to mortgage your house away.”

“You…you…”

Old Lady Jin almost couldn’t breathe at his words. She was just now, indeed, preparing to attack.

She was an old lady, and if this man dared to touch her, she would definitely make him suffer.

But now, if she hit him, over 400 thousand ah….

She’d never seen so much money in her life….

“You’re not going to hit me anymore, Maam? Well then, I’ll help you figure out how your slander charge is going to be calculated. Spreading rumors for no reason, the circumstances are serious enough to go to jail, but look at you, you’re so old, how can you go to jail?”

Old Lady Jin was first stunned, then summoned up her original courage.

Yeah, she’s so old that she had to be let go anywhere she went, how could she be allowed to go to jail.

She was a little more confident when the gentle, crisp, pleasant voice continued, “But your son is different, he’s the one who told you he’s been with my girlfriend, and he’s also the one who ordered you to spread rumors around. You don’t need to go to jail, your son needs to.”

“I’ll tell you what, I have a lawyer friend. Can you tell me where you live? I’ll take this to court now, and we’ll get to know each other better when the court summons come.”

The man spoke, about to move forward, but Old Lady Jin was so frightened by him that she lost her soul and retreated. “Don’t you come over, don’t you come over…”

Seeing Wei Mingyan coming up with the hoe, she turned and ran, leaving the basket of vegetables in her hands behind.

Seeing her go, Wei Mingyan put down his hoe and came to his girlfriend’s side with a smile, “She’s so scary.”

Sister-in-law Qi stood in the kitchen doorway, looking at the gentle and smiling man, the ladle nearly fell from her hand.

Supposedly, a weak scholar and a coward….
