[Saint Doll] Arc 5 Chapter 39 – Dwarf
It’s been one month since they arrived at the Academy, and as of now, Shin had gained firm understanding of his position.
To put it simply, the level of his Body Reinforcement is on the level of the best even among the graduate, however that was strictly talking about the theory, and that fact is already confirmed during a practice match against his Adventurer classmate whom Body Reinforcement is on the level of child when compared to Shin. When he fought against Adventurer who is older than him, all of his attack would be deflected and Shin would be reminded about his lack of skill.
Of course if they’re fighting without any restriction on their blessing, Shin is confident that he could fight against them as equal, but, the same will goes toward his opponent. On top of that, the card that he can reveal from his hand will also change depending on his future plan and his consultation with Mado.
And so, just as intended, Shin is recognized as a young adventurer who holds far more than enough power within him yet is far too inexperienced.

Then today, the special students were gathered in the vast training area to observe the Artificial God that their Apprentice Miko partner will practice with too one day.

Blue is on the same circumstances with Frey who brought the topic. The people who live in village don’t have much opportunity to see an Artificial God in action. If it’s someone from the capital or other big city, they might have seen one in a parade, but otherwise Artificial God is something that isn’t normally operated in place that is visible to the commoners.
“Then should I talk about the stuff I know?”

“Even if I looked like this, I have received the minimum education”
Sebas had approached and sits near the party of three. He’s someone of a close age to begin with, and after blue brought him to a brothel, the distance between Sebas and the group of three are shrinking little by little.
When Sebas doesn’t have any business with his “Ojou-sama”, he could be seen staying together with the group, and recently, he even made a request to Shin to train him in Body Reinforcement.
Then regarding that training, when Shin instructed Sebas and the other how to train with Kuru fruit, they end up being unable to move after merely around 20 minutes. Compared to Shin who could train for more than half a day from the very beginning, it was obvious there’s a big difference in the amount of Divine Power that they possessed, and they also understood why Shin was able to obtain his power with the Kuru fruit.

After being prompted, and looked toward the direction of Frey’s line of sight, they could see a group of Artificial God walking in a row. The group of 10 marched side by side in 2 row formation, however their appearance differs from the figure of Artificial God in Shin’s mind.

Even thought it was broken, Shin already saw the Artificial God in Yutarika Village’s Divine Pillar. Artificial God is supposed to be a giant of around 10 meter tall with design imitating full body armor from the West, however all of these Artificial God walking side by side are different. It stood 5 meter tall and can only be described as a doll with the shape of barrel.
Its torso is round exactly like a barrel, and its sorry excuse of a head is something like a ball attached at the top that have horizontal incision and a single dull red light which acted like an eye.
Its arms are a collection of wire that was tied up together and formed into one big steel wire, then instead of a hand, or a fist even, something like an iron ball is stuck at the end.
Its legs are barrel shaped things that was connected to each other, and when it walked it looked like a crab tottering on the ground.
Lastly, there are thick cables extended from its back that was connected to a box shaped car that was following the row of Artificial God from behind.
“It’s-, It’s completely different from the one at my place’s Divine Pillar”
“The heck are those”
“Is that a variation of Artificial God?”
“Ah, that’s the Dwarf Type. They’re often deployed in a big city”
“Dwarf?”
“Dwarf is a simple Artificial God. There’s a car at the back that was connected with cable right? It has Artificial God core inside it, the Divine Power is also supplied from there. It’s pretty weak, have limited operation response, and many other problems. But since the core is different, it can be made outside of the Academy. It also can be connected to a Divine Pillar”
The other three were convinced after hearing Sebas’ words. Even thought it looks clunky and its movement is dull, it is something that is certainly appropriate for an Apprentice Miko’s training machine. The so called dull movement, when combined with the Ariticial God’s height which exceeds 5 meters, is capable to scale the vast training ground at an unexpectedly high speed, and after aligning themselves, they’re also capable to perform a slow gymnastics exercise-like movement too.
“But that doesn’t exist in my village though?”
“It’s because maintaining the barrier is more important for a village. Do you think it’s worth it to reduce the strength of a barrier or shrinking the range of residence area just to operate a Dwarf?”
“Yeah, not happening”
While watching the Dwarves doing gymnastic and sprinting performance, and wondering whether they will perform any practice battle, Shin made a bitter smile as he realized that these Apprentice Miko don’t have any real battle experience just like some Adventurer out there.
“Can they create a barrier?”
“No, that’s impossible. Even if only a single unit is connected, Dwarf doesn’t have such capabilities in the first place”
“Then at most it’s up to Advanced Class huh. Rather than for combat, I guess it’s more suited for work”
“What’s this about barrier?”
“Without a barrier, they won’t be able to defeat Super Class because they won’t have any mean to make pass their attack through. It looks like their power is around Advanced Class at best”
From what Shin can see, even a Mad Boar is above them in term of power and movement. If one Dwarf fight against one Mad Boar head to head, Shin imagines that the Mad Boar will only need a few minutes to finish the fight. A practical use for a Dwarf is probably something that would require the use of heavy machinery in his Earth.
“Is that how it works?”
“If you brought barrier into equation, even we wouldn’t be able to do anything you know. Maybe Frey and Sebas could prepare a Balista, and meanwhile I would act as the decoy. With 2 squads acting like that, maybe we’ll be able to do something”
“That’s quite the big hurdle”
After their sprinting performance is over, Frey sighed while watching the Dwarves started doing performance similar to a sumo. He’s a little discouraged that after expecting he’ll be able to see the figure of an Artificial God, he ended up with the disappointing figure of a Dwarf instead. But when he consider that his partner might one day end up controlling one of them, he began to observe the movement of the dwarves seriously.
“(That’s right. Without a barrier, Artificial God and a Super Class is just something like a huge enemy)”
Meanwhile, Shin is recalling his research with Mado up until now. The condition that needs to be fulfilled for an Adventurer to be able to defeat Super class is already determined. They need to be able to nullify the barrier or possess strong enough destructive power to do the job. Until now, Mado tried to turn the idea into reality by concentrating power into a penetrating force, but now everything will change since he has worked together with Shin.
[“Let’s start by making you able to hunt the Super Class first. If we manage to do that, it will put you as the strongest among the Adventurers”]
“(Yes, the first step is to be able to stand as equal with Gain-san)”
With Mado’s words, Shin’s immediate goal is now set.
He will push forward to his goal of obtaining enough [Power] that doesn’t rely on Artificial God or the Seikishin.
