Chapter 88: Items Are Important But You Must Know How to Use Them Part 2
However, the crystal scorpion’s nest has no spaces where I could hide myself. Saying colloquially, it was a space as flat as the chest of a flat-chested girl, with little to no nooks or crannies where you could conceal yourself from the gazes of your enemies.
「Safe zone…… Safe zone…… Hmmm……」
It would be nice if I could freely fly through the skies. Then I could easily escape the monsters. But unfortunately, my bird mask was only decorative, with little to no effects that would allow me to ascend to the skies.
「…… God damn it, does that mean my only hope is to try numerous assault attempts in order to get myself a favorable RNG?」
「Does that mean the only option for us is to give up?」
「Now listen here, Emul. We Pioneers are not afraid of death. And why is that? Because the urge to discover the unknown is bigger than the fear of death!」
「You could think about me for a moment out there…… Puu, it feels like I’m about to drop dead every single time I’m opening a portal right now!」
Emul complains, but still he opens the portal that would take me to the bottom of the cliff. After so many casts his MP must have gotten pretty low, so I took an MP recovery potion out of my inventory and gave it to him so he could chug it down.
「Emul, stop right there for a moment.」
「Nmumu!?」
While Emul was chugging down the MP Recovery Potion I stopped him and he almost choked on the liquid going down his throat.
「Repository…… MP…… Disappearance of substance…… Reappearance…… That’s it!」
「Nbufugh!? Cough, cough, what the hell, Sanraku-san!?」
In response to Emul’s furious words, I took him in my arms and started to throw him in the air in a fit of ecstasy. My grey brain cells finally stumbled upon a solution!
「Nice idea, me! Thank you so much, Emul! Ahaha, this is gonna be great!」
「Pyaaah! Don’t move me like that shortly after I finish drinking……! Upuh!」
「There, there, calm down Emul, good girl…… I mean, good boy!」
There were preparations to be made. However, if I’m correct about this, then I’ll be able to wipe that whole area clean with little to no effort at all!
They should no longer be any threat to me. That’s what I’ve been telling myself ever since I climbed the cliff again and was now awaiting the sound of incoming scorpions. So far I saw three of them coming right at me, since I must have entered their sensing range.
I knew what I had to do in order to best them. If I chicken out now, the only thing that awaits me is painful death full of shame,
「Fufufufu…… In the end, it is technology that shall have the last laugh here! “Transfer: Inventory”!」
At that moment, the world around me changed completely.
It was a strange place made entirely out of metal, one that would probably be hard to reproduce with the technology currently available in ShangriLa Frontier. It wasn’t the crystal peak where certain death was fast approaching me.
This is the storage space that only those with Inventory can enter. I’m going to be in here for a moment, so I might as well have a look around.
「Ah, that’s right. Weren’t there supposed to be some items stored away in here?」
Thinking about it, Katsu and Pencilgton could enter in here as well. So, would it be possible to store monster material here as well as what was intended to be stored in here?
But the items floating about this place and emitting a bluish light weren’t what was the most important here. No, it was something else. A little further ahead, there was a huge space occupied by four giant beasts made out of steel and advanced science.
Just as their names suggested, they were in forms of the Guardians of Heavens and were quietly resting in their respective docks. The sheer look of them was really amazing and it was striking a soft spot somewhere deep down inside of me.
「If they are this big does this mean that the players will be able to use them at some point?」
Seeing this somehow reminded me of the Wezaemon battle and his terrifying mount. But four iron golems inside of here? Not to mention that they were all massive, way bigger than that stupid horse could ever hope to be. And they even had cannons, and rifles and missiles and thrusters installed on them!
「Whoa now, this won’t do, this won’t do…… Maybe now would be a good time? “Spacial Transfer: Exit Gate”」
I say that after chugging down MP recovery potion and activating a spell that would return me to the real world from this artificial space.
I then return from the side world back into the world where fantasy and science coexist in harmony.
「Fuh…… Kukukuku……」
Suppressing the urge to laugh out loud I look around and then at the huge chunk of crystal right under my feet. I kneel, pick it up and place it inside of my inventory.
Crystal Scorpion Shell
A crystal plating that Crystal Scorpions wear all over their bodies. Extremely sturdy and can even stop incoming magical attacks dead in their tracks.
Scorpions often break each other’s plating due to their violent nature, but they can regenerate missing plates by ingesting surrounding crystals.
「Kuh, kufufufufu! Fuhahahahahahaha!! Oh, I can feel my hands getting wet! Time for all-you-can-eat buffettttttttttttttttaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! Oh shit, “Spacial Travel: INVENTORY!”」
Getting myself surrounded just like that for a moment out there made me really break into a cold sweat. Laughter was the only way in which I could really respond to that.
